The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 569

Noelle pursed her lips and finally took the document. "Thank you."

After speaking, she glanced at Rosie.

Rosie immediately caught on and said, "Thank you, Great-Grandma."noveldrama

Ophelia didn't say anything more. She just leaned back on her bed and looked at Rosie.

Noelle didn't have much to say to her, and Rosie was still a little afraid of Ophelia, so they didn't stay long.

Once Ophelia drifted off to sleep involuntarily, Noelle quietly led Rosie out of the room. She had expected Beatrice to still be waiting outside, but when she stepped out, she found Hendrix standing there instead.

A frown immediately appeared on her face when she saw him.

Hendrix, however, looked calm. When his gaze fell on Noelle, it first swept over the folder in her hand.

After hesitating for a moment, Noelle handed the folder to him. "Mrs. Freeman Senior gave me these shares, but they're of no use to me. You can have them back."

Hendrix smirked and said, "She didn't give them to me. Are you sure you don't want it?"

"Yeah, I don't want them."

"Then, give it back to her," he said coldly. It was clear he had no intention of taking the folder from her.

Thus, Noelle had no choice but to withdraw her hand.

With that, there was nothing left to say between them. Noelle didn't even ask why

he was there. She simply led Rosie forward.

But just then, Hendrix suddenly asked, "What did my grandma say to you?"

The unexpected question made Noelle stop in her tracks.

"Nothing important," she replied without turning around. "If you're worried, you can check the surveillance footage."

Hendrix fell silent. He wanted to say more, but despite his eloquence in negotiations, he found himself at a loss for words now. So, he could only watch as Noelle walked away with Rosie. Her steps were steady and unhurried, showing no signs of being affected by his presence.

Realizing this, Hendrix couldn't help but laugh bitterly. Then, he pushed open the door to Ophelia's room. He had intended to ask her what she and Noelle had discussed. While there was surveillance in the room, retrieving the footage would be too much trouble. He wanted answers now.

But as soon as he stepped inside, Grant, who had been tending to Ophelia, stumbled toward him. When he saw Hendrix, he clung tightly to his arm as if his life depended on it.

"Mr. Hendrix, Mrs. Freeman Senior... She's gone."

Even though it was a short sentence, it took him a long time to utter it due to how much his voice was trembling.

Hendrix was momentarily stunned. Then, he nodded calmly. "Okay."

With that, he turned to arrange Ophelia's funeral.

But Grant grabbed his arm again and said pleadingly, "Mr. Hendrix, please... Let

Mr. Nathan come to see her off! Just for the funeral. Let Mrs. Freeman Senior see him one last time, even if it's just in spirit!"

Hendrix curled his lips into a faint sneer.

He was about to retort that there was no such thing as "in spirit" when Grant suddenly added, "Back when you were locked up in the detention center Mr. Nathan went to see Ms. Swanson. Don't you want to know what they talked about?"
