The substitute bride is a mute

Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Judy nodded at Clark's question, causing him to frown.

The room resembled a shabby study rather than a proper bedroom for a lady. A wall of bookshelves filled with books, an old desk, and a folding single bed in the corner made up the entire room. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

Considering the Blake family's wealth, who would have thought that Matthew would let Judy live in such a place?

However, Matthew could allow Judy to marry into the Reid family. This already indicated that this mute illegitimate daughter of his truly held no place in his heart. Judy was just a tool to him.

Judy looked at Clark anxiously, unsure of how he would react.

But Clark merely stood in front of a shelf, casually pulling out a book. He asked nonchalantly, "What did Matthew say to you when we were downstairs?"

Judy's heart sank, and she shook her head hesitantly.

"Nothing?" Clark raised his head, his eyes extremely cold. "Then, what are you holding?"

The moment these words fell, Judy's mind buzzed, and she involuntarily took a step back. The package clutched in her palm was almost soaked with sweat.

He'd seen it.

Clark didn't approach her, but the way he stood still made him even more terrifying. Those unperturbed eyes were like an abyss, a deathly gaze to doom anyone.

After remaining locked in a stalemate., Judy finally stretched out her hand. Her shoulders trembled slightly as she slowly opened her palm to show him.

This was her instinct to survive.

With a creak, the door suddenly opened.

Jenna opened the door and entered, her face plastered with a sweet smile. "Clark, I brought you some fruit."

A trace of impatience flashed across Clark's face. "Thank you," he calmly responded.

"You're welcome. Make yourself at home," Jenna said, carrying the tray in.

She shot Judy a cold glance as she passed her. "Judy, why don't you help out in the kitchen? The helpers don't know Clark's dietary preferences."

Judy nodded, her foot imperceptibly nudging the small white package that had dropped earlier under the bed.

"I'll go get busy then while you guys chat."

The moment the door closed, Judy was able to breathe again. Her back was already soaked with cold sweat. She absolutely could not feed Clark the drug.

Through the door, she could hear Clark and Jenna talking inside.

"Do you like the necklace?"

"I do. As long as it's from you, Clark."

A moment of silence followed.

"I remember you studied pharmacology abroad, right?"

"Yes, my family is in that business."

"The Blake Medical Group has the medicine formula. Why do you need to go abroad for further studies?"

"Yeah, I don't know what Dad is thinking. We have the medicine formula patented. It's more than enough to continue the legacy. Why bother learning from others?"

"Oh? Well then, Jenna, I assume you've seen the medicine formula."

Jenna couldn't find her voice.

Clark suddenly accompanied her back to the Blake mansion. Now, she seemed to understand why he approached Jenna.

The Blake family had a century-long history in medicine. The most valuable asset of the Blake Medical Group was not the family name, nor Matthew's business acumen. Instead, it was that unknown medicine formula.

Clark came for this.
