The Road to Rebirth Her Fresh Start and His Late Sorrow

Chapter 17

Nancy's frame wobbled, her face even paler.

Cyrus had arranged a city-wide fireworks display for Hayley. At that moment, Nancy's thoughts were all about their wedding night.

Cyrus looked at her with affection. "Nancy, I finally have you. If it weren't for Grandpa asking me to keep it low-key, I would have lit the night sky with fireworks for you. Don't worry. I'll make it up to you. I'll show you how romantic I can be."

Yet, Cyrus' promised compensation ultimately went to Hayley.

Nancy's face was full of self-mockery, uncertain if it was toward herself or Cyrus.

Baldrick looked at Nancy's bitter expression, feeling even worse. "Nancy, let him go. I can..."

"Baldrick, I need some space to think, okay?" she interrupted with a vacant look, her face void of emotion.

Baldrick felt his heart squeezed, his breathing difficult, his grip loosening involuntarily. "Alright."

No sooner had he spoken than Nancy had started walking away. Baldrick remained there. Even though Nancy was out of sight, he made no move to look away.

Just then, an assistant rushed over, "Mr. Robertson, it's urgent. Your father is critically ill! You need to get there quickly."

Baldrick's brow furrowed, setting his turmoil momentarily aside as he hurried off with the assistant. The hospital room door slammed shut, leaving Nancy feeling completely drained. She sat on the hospital bed, staring blankly ahead.

Time seemed to have stopped until her limbs numbed, and her body felt cold.

Why had their marriage turned out this way? Was staying together so hard?

Suddenly, Jolted from her thoughts, Nancy turned to see the brilliant fireworks lighting the night sky outside the window.

Soon, the fireworks formed a message. "Hayley, I love you forever!"noveldrama

Nancy was stunned, then laughed, but her laughter came with indescribable heartbreak and despair. Her husband was proclaiming his love for someone else.

'Look at that, how romantic! Cyrus, you're something else!'

Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a notification. It was a video from Hayley on WhatsApp.

Nancy quickly opened the video and saw Hayley nestled in Cyrus' arms, with spectacular fireworks exploding in the background.

Hayley's face was all sweetness and joy, and she emotionally said, "Cyrus, you've treated me like a princess. I love you so much."

"You deserve this because you're carrying my child." Cyrus raised an eyebrow, his gaze filled with nothing but adoration for Hayley.

Hayley shyly giggled, "Honey."

"Hmm." Cyrus leaned in to kiss Hayley's forehead.

The video ended there. Hayley stared at the screen, especially seeing Cyrus kiss Hayley on the head. He had that look of love on his face.

A sickening feeling spread from the bottom of Nancy's heart.

Her phone chimed again.

[Hayley: Nancy, the child isn't Norton's. It's Cyrus'! See how deep Cyrus' love for me is? He gave me a house and money but even arranged fireworks for me! If you know what's good for you, you'll step aside, or else be careful Cyrus might kick you out!]

Nancy's fingers clenched tightly around the phone, her eyes blazing with fury at Hayley's message. Very well! Nancy violently threw her phone to the ground, especially watching the fireworks outside bursting in full glory. Cyrus had proposed a hundred times. Cyrus fell in love with her first, and yet the moment she fell for him...
