THE REMORSEFUL BILLIONAIRE

Judith’s POV

It’s been a month of working with Nathan, and I must say confess that the work has been so exhausting. From fixing meetings, conferences, and appointments to responding to emails. I didn’t think I could survive. But surprisingly, I have been learning through the ropes and getting better.

After the kiss we had some weeks ago, I have been trying not to get entangled with him. I tried to keep it strictly professional. I don’t have problem with the kiss itself; my issue is how he withdrew from me afterward, like I was a disease, leaving me in an awkward situation.

Love shouldn’t be my priority. I have children to cater for, they should have my love and attention but anytime I’m around him, my heart seems to beat faster, just like when I was with Felix, and conveying some unknown feelings.

Oh, Felix, I hope he’s fine wherever he is”, I muttered as I arrange the scattered files on the table. “Thank goodness, the wedding didn’t hold. How would he have survived fathering a robber’s child with his newly married wife?” I thought, shrugging. The saying “some disappointments are a blessing in disguise”, is absolutely true; marrying Felix would have put me in a rather difficult and awkward situation.

I was seated and scrolling through my phone when I heard a rude voice speak. I looked up, and it was a handsome young man, who bore a resemblance of Nathan. I learnt later that he is John, Nathan’s step brother.

“Is Nathan around”, he spoke rudely and urgently.

“Yes, he is”, I said trying to sound as calm as possible. “What is your name? So I can check if you’ve booked an appointment”.

“Why should I book an appointment to see that bastard?” he said as he made his way inside the office.

“Sir, you can’t go in” I said, I walking behind him. He went in, and I followed him,” sir I told you, you can’t come in”.

I was about facing my boss to apologize to him when I received a slap on the face. He slapped me, I was shocked and pained; it happened so fast that looked like a Deja vu.

I was caressing my cheeks and trying to hold back my tears when Nathan moved closer to me and held me “Are you okay?” he said as he touched my shoulders, sounding very angry, I could feel the fire in his eyes.

“Are you crazy” he thundered angrily while facing John. I had never seen Nathan so angry. He punched john on his face.

He grabbed his shirt and threw him away. “Every time you come here, you make trouble”, he said as he they kept punching each other while I was tried to stop the fight.

After a while, I guess they got tired; they stopped fighting

“If you dare insult her again, I’m going to kill you”, he said while trying to move closer to him of which I prevented.

He stopped talking, as though he knew Nathan could kill him. “I’m going to tell father about this”, he said as he slammed the door shut. John left, not the same way he came, his handsome face was covered in bruises, and his shirt rumpled. Nathan too had bruises, but they were minimal compared to John’s.

“You should have just let him be,” I said as I sympathetically cupped Nathan face with my hands, and scrutinizing his injuries”.

Then he burst out laughing. “Why are you laughing?” I asked, a little angry, and surprised.

“You just looked so funny right now; you looked like a mother rebuking her naughty kid”, he said as he kept laughing. I have never seen him laugh so hard before.

“I’m being serious here”, I said as I gave shoot him an angry stare. “Stop laughing and let me treat your wound”.

“Okay I will”, he said, while trying to suppress his laughter, “he looked so cute and innocent, though”.

“Why is he here?” I asked as I bent over to wipe the blood with a cotton wool, and then apply an ointment.

“He had a shady business deals that he wanted father to invest in. father investing millions in that business would end up in a loss. Thinking about all the possibilities, the investment wouldn’t be a good one, so I advised father not to”, he said as he swallowed hard. “I think that’s the reason for his uproar”, he said and held my hand allowing me to sit beside him.

“Are you okay?” he asked as he placed his hand on me cheek. I nodded and was trying to take off his hand.

“I’m sorry for allowing you go through this. John has always been an asshole; he has respect for no one and does all kinds of shady things”, he said, forcefully keeping his hand on my cheek.

“I’m okay, sir”, I said as I finally took off his hand, “Let me get back to work”.

I was about to stand up when he said”, I’m sorry about the kiss, Judith. I know was supposed to talk about it since then, but I didn’t want to put you in an awkward situation or take advantage of you”, he said while staring intensely at me. I could feel my body burning with desire.

“It’s okay”, I said, avoiding his eyes as If I wanted hide my love and desire from him.

“I hope you will forgive me and we can just be cool again”, he said as he took my hand in his and kissed it.

I was dumbfounded. I don’t know if I was a dream, but it looked too real to be true. “Why is he kissing my hand again? I thought he apologized for the kiss because we just got lost around each other? Is he trying to flirt with me? I was still lost in my thoughts, when I heard him say:

“I have thought about this. I care about you; I want to be around you. I just want the time to tick slower when at work and faster when I’m home, just so I could see you longer. I think I’m in love with you Judith”, he said, shooting affectionate stares at me…..
