The Rebirth of the Betrayed Alpha

Chapter 39: In the dark

As Alexandra grips Olivia's arm, she smirks, daring her to try and hit her with her other hand but Olivia doesn't and she quickly pushes her hand away.

"Don't cross the line, Olivia, I'm only been lenient since you are recuperating"

Laughing almost outrageously, Olivia clenches her jaw.

"I told you I will find a better person if you don't want to marry Adam Hawthorn but

if you want the one I threw then you are very mistakenly because you can never have it"

Olivia and Bernard molded their first tighty, infuriated. They had not expected her

to make such utterances.

"What? You don't want it"

"Alexandra get out" Olivia whispers

"Don't be so mean, I was only trying to help"

"I don't need your help" Olivia screams

"Sorry I didn't know but if you change your mind, you know where to find me" she leaves slamming the door and running up to her bedroom.

Alexandra shuts the door, falling on the bed, she had won this round but deep down it didn't feel like it. A feeling of depression engulfs her tightly as Nathaniel's edge-cutting words play in her head.

"Where are you, Nathaniel?"

Tears crowd her eyes and she blinks hating to get emotional for it was a sign of weakness and Alexandra wouldn't want to be weak. Standing up, she wipes her tears wondering if he had got back home safely that day, why he had said those words to her without letting her explain. It felt as though he had taken Olivia's side over hers scolding her and even bringing up their marriage.

As the memory continues to play, Alexandra feels a knot tighten in her chest and she goes to sit by the window, staring into space for a long brooding silence.

"Nathaniel, oh Nathaniel" she whispers

Her mobile phone rings, pulling her back to reality causing Alexandra to groan, and dragging her feet, she moves to the bed stand seeing Adams's name flashing on the screen, Alexandra tosses her phone aside falling back on the bed.

"Ding!"

It's a message from Adams that reads. "Are you at home?"

Picking up her mobile, Alexandra rolls her eyes, she had forgotten all about him but he had to make himself known as always.

As Alexandra reads the message, a part of her wanted to respond, or else he would keep buzzing her line, and another wanted her to just forget about him and drown in her depression.

"Ding!"

Another message pops in from Adams that reads. "Are you not going to reply?"

Running her hand through her hair, she glances around, and a lot of things run through her mind. The last thing she wanted was for Adam to show up at her house.

"Adam, why do you always come at the wrong time?" She bites her lower lips. "Ding!"

Another message pops in from Adams. "I hope you are okay"

Without hesitancy, Alexandra quickly switches off her phone, closes her eyes, and slowly begins to drift off to sleep with Nathaniel's words still lingering around somewhere in her head, darkness finally takes over her.

The doorbell bellows through the house and Alexandra tosses around, unable to sort out between reality and delusions. The doorbell rings again and she tosses around, sits up, and opens her eyes.

She yawns, running her hand through her hair, famished. The doorbell bellows through again and she sighs, standing up.

"It's not as if anyone's at home by noon, who comes to someone's house by this time" frowning, she walks out of the room into the dark hallway and down the stairs to the living room.

A soft knock comes on the door as she approaches, walking towards the door she flings the door wide open exposing Adams standing by the door with a box of chocolate.

"Hi" He whispers and Alexandra stiffens, wanting nothing more than to slam the door in his face.

For a moment she had thought it would be Nathaniel standing behind the closed doors waiting to be let in and she would have let him in, showing him her bedroom and doing other things together but all that was gone since she was stuck with Adams and he wasn't so easy to get rid of.

"Are you okay? You don't look too good"

Gawking at him, Alexandra doesn't utter a word.

"Alexandra, are you okay?"

Realizing herself, Alexandra snaps back to reality, and a faint smile creeps onto her face.

"Adam, hey, come in" as she steps aside, Adam enters glancing around the house.

"Is been like what? Two days and I've forgotten what this place looks like"

Confused, Alexandra reclines in a seat and he joins her.

"How have you been Alexandra?"

"It's been crazy with everything that's been going on but I'm pretty good".

"Did you get my text messages?"

"What text?"

"I sent you a few messages, didn't you get them?"

"I didn't"

"Where is your mobile phone?"

"Upstairs on the bed stand, I think"

"Can I take a look?"

Seeing right through him, Alexandra glares. "What is this? Are you doubting my words? If I received your messages why would I lie about it and why won't I respond?".

"I'm not calling you a liar, I just want to be certain nothing is wrong with your phone"

"Adams!" She yells

"Alexandra!" He yells back "Your action is only meaning that you saw my messages"

"You're accusing me" she laughs

"No I'm not, I just want to know why you didn't respond to my messages just now and also why you missed our appointment the other day" Alexandra gawks at him, she had not expected he would dare bring up that day ever again since he had that incident with Olivia and those rogues.

"What did you just say?" She whispers

"Why did you miss our appointment, Alexandra?" He stares deep into her eyes, observing her intently

"I waited for you to come Alexandra"

Alexandra rolls her eyes hating how he dares try to make a fool of her. Adam wasn't aware that Alexandra knew he wasn't thinking about her that day, maybe he never thought about her at all. At least the aphrodisiac she had sprayed on Olivia's clothes made it possible so there was no way she was going to let him turn the tables around blaming her when she was already aware of the entire truth behind what happened that day.

"How did I miss the appointment? Did you look for me? Did you call out my name?"

"Alexandra" He whispers

"What? Or do you think I wouldn't find out"

"Find out what?"

"That you came here out of guilt"

"What are you talking about?" He asks confused

"If I ask you to tell me what happened that day, will you be honest with me? or will

you try to hide the truth so I won't find out about your lover"

"Our appointment couldn't push through because you chose to meet with Olivia since both of you are in a relationship and you just couldn't wait, is that not true?" Adams opened his mouth to say something but couldn't.

"What? Can't talk"

"Alexandra"

"Your relationship with Olivia is the reason our appointment failed. If you have the decency to acknowledge that fact then maybe I would call you a better man but

no you will choose to sit down and keep mute"

Adams gawks at her, caught unaware by her words.

"Say something! Deny it or accept it"

"I don't know what to say"

"Why all of a sudden? Because Olivia is involved or because you are trying to

hide your relationship with her while chasing after another"

"Other people saw you two together, I'm certain by now you must have heard of

the rumors"

"Rumours?"

"Yes, or are you going to deny it as well?"

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about your relationship with Olivia!" She yells, chuckling. "Isn't it pathetic for you to have come here demanding why I missed the appointment while in reality, you are the one who missed it? You are the reason why it never happened"

"And now that I've found out about your relationship, you choose to keep quiet. How shameless" Alexandra runs her hand through her hair "I won't press on it any further however, do not question me"

Alexandra stands up. "You may leave" she attempts to walk away but Adams

holds her hand.

"Are you going to leave like that?"

Glaring at his hands, Adams loosens his grip around her arm.

"I'm sorry for holding you like that"

"You should be since I have a mate" Alexandra turns to walk up the stairs when a

thought strikes her mind and she stares back at him.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Of course Alexandra"

"Would you choose me for the Alpha position?"

Hearing the words rolling out her mouth, Alexandra clutches against the seat, thisnoveldrama

was the most painful part of her past life. Everything that had happened to her had started with Adams's quest to become the Alpha and although Alexandra didn't do anything other than support him and love him. He had other plans that she only knew about a little late.

"Will you choose me or will it be another person?"

"I can't do that to you Alexandra"

"Don't say you can't, it only shows that you are going to betray me"

"Betray you?" Adams's eyes widened, and fear engulfed his body "How would you

think I would betray you? I can never do that to you"

"How am I supposed to believe in mere words?"

"Tell me how can I make you believe? Just say the words and I will do anything

you tell me"

Gawking intently at her, Adam could tell she wasn't the girl he once knew, the girl who would never question his words and would lose herself whenever he was around. The one who fought for his attention all the time and would laugh at every line he said. That girl was different from the one standing in front of him, gazing into his eyes, trying to figure out the next line he was going to say, that way she would know what to say to him.
