Sophie froze, her brows knitting in shock. She hadn't expected that Isabelle was actually dead.

Then, she fumed inwardly, "This life is nothing like my last! The damned still breathe, while the worthy lie dead. What the hell is going on here?!

'Has Eliza really been coming back to life too? Or could it be that this life is simply unfolding differently?'

Sophie suddenly remembered something. "Wait, you said that little bitch Eliza asked His Majesty to change her surname. Didn't Father try to stop her?"

The maid stammered nervously, "I... I don't know much about this, my lady, only what I've heard from the rumors outside. Maybe it has something to do with the Holy Lady... Sophie fixed the maid with a deadly glare and snarled, "If you value your miserable life, you'd better obey me. Or I'll have you skinned alive and make you suffer a fate worse than death."

"I understand! I'm willing to go through fire and water for you, Lady Sophie. Just give me an order!" she replied.

Sophie's murderous intent eased slightly. She sheathed her dagger and demanded, "What's your name?"

The maid replied, "My name is Sibyl, my lady."

"Sibyl, you're coming with me to the Shiverhall Courtyard. I'm going to check it out." Sophie's voice was firm.

"Yes, my lady. Please, let me show you the way," Sibyl nodded.

Sophie would never have even heard of such a lowly place as the Shiverhall Courtyard without the maid's report.

After all, a noble lady like her would never deign to visit such lowly, shabby quarters in the estate.

Though not run-down, the Shiverhall Courtyard paled in comparison to the lavish quarters of the other family members. It was simpler, and far more removed.
