The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus)

Chapter 556 That Resentment Just Will Not Go Away

Selena's words gave Kenton a sense of comfort. Even though Selena wasn't a child of the Langley family by blood, the ruthlessness and twisted streak she carried-those were just like him.

Then, Selena shifted the topic. "Great-Uncle Kenton, where's Charlene? I want to meet her."noveldrama

"She's at a hotel near the hospital. I've got someone watching her."

"Great-Uncle Kenton, take me there. Let my parents stay here and keep an eye on things."

"Alright," Kenton agreed without hesitation. "But Selena, your parents had better not do anything reckless. Yvette can't die just yet."

"Of course, we're not going to kill her now," Diana said coldly. "Killing her now would be letting her off too easily. We have our own plans for her. Whatever we do, Uncle Kenton, you'll know about it."

Selena chimed in at this moment. "Yeah! Don't worry, Great-Uncle Kenton. My parents listen to me, and I listen to you. In Dithoria, the Holden family and the Walker family are keeping an eye on things. Those two families are too righteous. Who knows? They might even pity that old hag and let her off the hook!

"We're different. We're vicious." Selena smiled darkly. "But this viciousness-she's the one who caused it. Isn't she always blaming others? Well then, I'm blaming my entire fate on her now. Seems pretty fair, doesn't it?"

Kenton nodded. "Yes, you're right. And you're not blaming her baselessly—it's simply the truth. If not for her, you wouldn't have been sold off, Natalie and Emma wouldn't have been swapped, the Walker family wouldn't have gone after your parents for mistreating Natalie, and they wouldn't have retaliated against you all.

"Emma would never have had the chance to harm Sophia, the eldest daughter of the Sinclair family. You would've grown up healthy and happy, loved and cared for by your real parents. There's also no way you would've endured so much suffering or developed such a skewed outlook on life.

"All of this is the old hag, Yvette's fault."

Selena nodded. "Exactly. That's just how it is."

"Alright, then. I'll take you to see Charlene, and your parents will keep an eye on Yvette here."

Selena nodded obediently. "Okay, Great-Uncle Kenton."

Kenton led Selena out of the hospital room. As he did, Victor and Diana exchanged a glance.

On their way to Dithoria, the three of them had already discussed it. Yvette was the root of everything that had happened; they had been separated for so many years, and Selena suffered painful experiences while being sold again and again. The Langleys simply couldn't leave things as they were.

Even though they had decided to stay away from all of this and live a peaceful life, the anger in their hearts just wouldn't go away. This was especially true when they thought of all the other girls Selena had met during those years girls who had also been abducted and trafficked. It pained them to no end.

Selena admitted she wasn't a good person, but if she had never been separated from her parents at birth, how would she have turned out like this? Diana and Victor loved her dearly. If she had grown up surrounded by love, she definitely would have been a happy, kind, and gentle child.

But she hadn't. Her life experiences made it impossible for her to be a bright, cheerful person.

Though the family of three had decided to leave it all behind and live quietly, they had still traveled all this way to Dithoria for one reason to take Yvette to the hospital where the child swap had occurred. That hospital had changed the fates of several young girls. Yvette needed to atone for her sins there.

Once they brought her to that hospital, Selena and her parents would finally be free to do whatever they wanted in life.

Diana and Victor lifted the unconscious Yvette and laid her back on the hospital bed, pulling the blanket over her.

"Uncle Kenton said she's got Umbrahex in her system, so we need to be careful not to touch her," Victor said quietly. "Look under her skin. Isn't there something moving in her veins?"

Diana nodded. "Yeah, there is."

"Do you I think it's contagious?" Victor sounded a little nervous. "Maybe we should keep our distance."

"It's not," Diana said confidently. She was far bolder than Victor. "If it was that easy to catch, Uncle Kenton wouldn't have been fine after working with her for so long.

"Relax. I've seen stuff like this in movies and on TV. Umbrahex isn't something you can just accidentally pick up."

Victor thought about it. That certainly did make sense.

"Alright, then. Let's just wait here."

"Yeah."

Kenton brought Selena to the hotel near the hospital and soon arrived at the room where Charlene was being held.

Of course, all her communication

devices had been confiscated. She

was being watched around the

clock. Even when going to the bathroom, there were female bodyguards keeping an eye on her.

She was on the verge of losing it. But she had no way to escape. Even if she

could, she didn't dare-because Yvette was still in Kenton's hands.

The moment she saw Kenton walk in with Selena, Charlene rushed forward. "Kenton Langley! How dare you lock me up. Let me out of here!"

Kenton raised his hand and slapped Charlene across the face. "Bitch. You think you can scream at me?"

Selena stepped forward at this

moment, giving Charlene a once-over. On the way to Dithoria, she had reviewed Charlene's profile. She had been pampered by Lina and Yvette since childhood. She had never lifted a finger to participate in any of their dirty business.

In other words, her life had been simple, pure, and comfortable.

But that simple, beautiful life of hers had been built on Yvette's manipulation of the Holdens, Walkers, and Langleys.

For years, the Langley family had been sending money to Yvette. Charlene's luxurious lifestyle had been funded by the Langleys.

That wretched woman, Yvette, claimed to hate the man who once loved Vivian, yet shamelessly used his wife and child to make money for herself.

A textbook hypocrite she was, playing both the victim and the mastermind. "Selena, she's all yours. Just be careful not to kill her," Kenton said, glancing at Selena and instantly understanding her intentions from the look on her face.

"Thanks, Great-Uncle Kenton." Selena smiled faintly. Then, she stepped forward, grabbed Charlene by the hair, and dragged her straight into the bathroom. Moments later, the sound of Charlene's blood-curdling screams came from within, akin to that of an animal being slaughtered.

Kenton clicked his tongue a couple of times and walked over to sit by the coffee table. He pulled out his phone and saw a missed call from Sheldon.

He quickly called Sheldon, and it connected almost immediately. "Hello, Sheldon?"

"Kenton, Lina's almost here."

"Got it, Sheldon."

After the call ended, Kenton waited a

little while longer before going to

knock on the bathroom door. "Selena, that's enough. Lina's almost

here now. We still have a show to watch."

"Got it, Great-Uncle Kenton," Selena replied, then pulled the door open and

casually walked out.

Kenton glanced behind her and saw Charlene curled up by the toilet, with several

colorful snakes slithering around her feet.

"Those snakes aren't venomous, are they?"

"No," Selena replied with a smile. "But they're more than enough to scare the life

out of her."

She added, "Great-Uncle Kenton, let's have someone take Charlene to the hospital where we were swapped."

"But I already arranged to meet Lina." Kenton frowned. "Lina's just as crazy, you know."

Selena smiled, her eyes reflecting a deep, hidden meaning. "It's fine. Charlene's in our hands. No matter how crazy Lina is, can she be crazier than me?"
