In Silverbrook Village, located in the Brackenridge district of Lambda City,

Matthew was currently playing with Lorraine. Just then, Caleb rushed into the yard with cotton candy in hand. He called out to Lorraine loudly, "Take a look at this, Lori."

When Lorraine saw the cotton candy, she discarded the ball in excitement, saying, "Wow, it's cotton candy! Thanks, Mr. Murphy!"

Caleb smiled. "Here, I bought it for you."

Matthew knew that Caleb had something to tell him, so he asked Lorraine to play by the side for a bit. Pointing to the marble table in the yard, Matthew said, "C'mon, let's take a seat first."

Caleb sat down delightedly and said, "We're completely in the clear today."

Matthew knew what Caleb was referring to. Just a few days ago, some members of The Misfortune's Veil appeared in Silverbrook. Though they moved in secret, they couldn't hide from Caleb's cameras.

It was as if Caleb could oversee everything they did. The assassins might have been hiding and acting discreetly, but nothing could be hidden from Caleb's eyes.

Many assassins from The Misfortune's Veil came over this time, and Caleb had told Matthew that they could probably form an orchestra with the number of assassins that came by. But now, Caleb said that they were in the clear, so it meant that there weren't any more assassins from The Misfortune's Veil. Even so, Matthew had his guard up and asked, "None of them appeared?" Caleb shook his head and replied, "None at all."

After a moment's thought, Matthew said, "Let's wait for a little more to confirm things."

Caleb was a little stunned and said, "Mr. Grant, I'm not saying this because I don't want to continue surveilling them, y'know? I'm your employee now. I've dedicated my life to you, so even if you're not gonna task me with a new job, I'll still keep surveilling Silverbrook Village to protect your parents and Lorraine."noveldrama

Upon hearing that, Matthew pondered for a moment and nodded. "Thanks, then!"

Caleb smiled in return, saying, "You don't have to thank me. Instead, you should thank the old men and women for having to continue tolerating a nightmare like me."

When Matthew thought back to how some of the old men and women cried because they were losing money from gambling with Caleb, he smiled a little. "Take it easy. I wouldn't want their kids to come up to us with the same complaint again."

But Caleb shook his head and stared straight into Matthew's eyes, saying, "Mr. Grant, I'm willing to adhere to everything you say, but it's another thing when it comes to gambling. I've got to live up to my identity, so I have to win every game!"

Two days ago, Caleb had been so focused on surveilling Silverbrook Village that he kept messing up his hands at gambling, and those old men and women couldn't be happier about his loss. This time, he had to get back at them and get even!

Matthew was speechless. He still harbored a little grudge against gambling, but he said, "Whatever makes you happy, I guess."

Seeing how Matthew reacted, a weight finally wore off Caleb's shoulders. He had been worried that Matthew would control each and every move of his as his superior. That would honestly suffocate him because Caleb loved his freedom.

Back then, Caleb had only gotten under Matthew's wing in consideration of his own situation. He felt that Matthew was a cut above the average citizen and that it would be good to have someone extraordinary backing him up.

However, he was still a little worried after following Matthew around because he was a free-spirited gambler who didn't like getting. chained down. Caleb was afraid that Matthew would be a little to strict with him, but now that he heard Matthew's answer, he visibly relaxed a lot more.

Then, he looked at Matthew seriously and said, "Thank you."

Matthew was stunned. "Why are you thanking me?"

At that, Caleb said sincerely, "Because of how magnanimous you are."

Matthew knitted his brows together and replied just as seriously, "I'm not being

magnanimous but respectful here. I respect your hobbies and hope you'll live life

to the fullest in a way that makes you happy."

Caleb was a little taken aback when

Lorraine was eating cotton candy when she walked over and coincidentally heard that Caleb was going to gamble. She then huffed out, saying, "Mr. Murphy, I'll stop playing with you if you're gonna go play cards!"

Caleb couldn't help but coo at how cute Lorraine was when she was all puffed up and mad. He smiled at her and said, "It's cool playing Blackjack, y'know? Especially when you win. Do you wanna learn how to play Blackjack? I can teach you and make sure you win too!"
