Chapter 763
The office suddenly went quiet for a moment before a breathless voice rang out. "Who's there? I'm in the middle of something. Talk to me tomorrow."
Furious, Tracy snapped, "It's me, Rae. It's Tracy."
The room quieted down, and faint whispers could be heard from inside.
Rachel's voice came through once more. "I'm sick, Tracy. I need Matthew to treat me."
Tracy gritted her teeth in rage because Rachel had changed-she even started lying to her for Matthew. Then, she recalled the soft murmurs from the office.
It was Matthew. The pervert had taught Rachel to lie.
Tracy clenched her fists and raised her volume. "Fine. Let him treat you."
With that, Tracy stormed off and returned to her office. The more she dwelled on it, the angrier she became.
At this point, Rachel had started teaming up with Matthew to deceive her. If things continued like this, her relationship with Rachel would only grow more distant.
With that in mind, Tracy felt even more anxious. She had to come up with a plan to make Rachel cut ties with Matthew for good.
Suddenly, Tracy's eyes lit up. "I've got an idea. Doesn't Tessa want to reconcile with Matthew? She's a bit unpleasant, but I'm open to teaming up if it means getting Rachel to leave Matthew."
Three days later, Tessa lay in bed with her head bandaged in a hospital ward.
With a smile on his face, Leander walked in and made his way to the bed. "How are you feeling, Ms. Sanders?"
Tessa looked distressed. "I feel awful. It feels like there's a foreign object in my head."
Leander reassured with a grin, "That's likely just your mind playing tricks on you, or maybe your wound hasn't healed completely. The itching and tingling sensation as it heals can make you feel that way. In truth, the surgery is nothing major, and you can go home now. Just follow the doctor's instructions to take your meds regularly."
Tessa felt something was off. "After a major operation like that, can I really be discharged when the wound has only started to heal?"
Leander chuckled. "You know how it works for childbirth, right? If it's a natural delivery, you can typically leave the hospital on the same day. If it's a surgical delivery, it'll take a few days. Don't underestimate our body's ability to recover. It's not as weak as you imagine."
Tessa believed Leander was so strapped for cash, which was why he was acting this way.
She was worried about her health and asked, "How about I stay another day for an IV drip just to be safe?"
Leander leaned closer. "You still don't trust me, do you? Hear me out, Ms. Sanders. I'm following the safest procedure. Your health comes first. Before we implanted the chip, we tested it on a pig and a monkey. They're still kicking and even healthier than the rest of their group. You can totally trust me."
Tessa responded with resignation, "Alright."
Half an hour later, Tessa showed up at a room filled with various kinds of equipment in Leandex Technologies. Some researchers monitored Tessa's vital signs-blood pressure, body temperature, heartbeat, and brain waves. A few computers crunched the complex calculation.
Leader eagerly explained to Tessa, "You need some time to get used to the chip. First of all, the brain is made up of several regions. Some handle eating, some control balance, some are responsible for language... There are more, but I won't get into all the details.
"But some areas of brain waves vary in strength and wavelength between individuals, so we need to adjust the data and settings. Over the next few days, I need your help to cooperate with the research team."
Tessa was eager to suit up in an exoskeleton that could lift a ton and confront Matthew. She wanted him to drop to his knees right in front of her.
She couldn't care less about the other things. "I'll cooperate, so just hurry up with the arrangements. I want to wear the exoskeleton as soon as possible."
Leander nodded his head. He wanted to say something but bit his tongue.
Tessa noticed Leander's reluctance to speak up and asked, "What's up? Is there something bothering you, Mr. Farburg?"
Leander cleared his throat and apologetically smiled. "The data collection on your thoughts can be pretty detailed. It includes everything from your meals to bathroom tips, your menstrual cycle, and even your physical needs. To put it bluntly, it also records the time you start wanting a man."
Tessa immediately scrunched up her brows. "How could you, Mr. Farburg? You're gathering all my private information. Doesn't that mean I have no secrets left?"
Leander beamed. "When you signed the papers back then, it wasn't detailed in the documents, so I want to go over it with you now. Since we're at this point, you can't back out because you've already signed them."
Tessa realized the gravity of the situation. "Are you saying that you'll record all my thoughts without any filters? For example, if I'm craving food or I see a woman and think she's a terrible singer? Or when I think some people are shady in how they do things?"
Some people?
Leander flashed a wry smile at Tessa. He figured she was talking about him, so he turned to the researcher nearby and asked, "What's going through her mind right now, Trent?"
Trent Carver chuckled and replied, "She's likely cursing your mom and your whole family in her mind right now."
Frowning, Leander turned to Tessa. "Are you tearing into me right now?"
Tessa had a troubled look. "I wasn't cursing you out. I just felt some pain in my wound and let out some frustrations."
Leander bitterly grinned. "You can curse all you want, but there's one thing I need to make clear. When you work with the researchers to get the data sorted out, you have to be honest. Just tell them the truth. The brain wave signals have to be your genuine thoughts. Otherwise, your exoskeleton could face some issues."
Knitting her brows together, Tessa seemed to be lost in thought for a moment before she remarked, "Alright. I'll cooperate fully. I'll drop the privacy issue for now, but when can I start using the exoskeleton?"
Leander thought for a moment before responding, "It'll take up to seven days for your wound to heal and roughly a week for the scabs to fall off The data testing is expected to take about ten days. If everything goes smoothly, you'll get to use the exoskeleton in ten days. I'm looking forward to it as well."
Ten days? That was awfully long.noveldrama
Tessa wished time would swiftly fly by. She couldn't wait to confront Matthew.
Wasn't Matthew supposed to be tough? Well, she was confident that she could make him kneel and apologize once she could throw out strong punches.
What do you think?
