Chapter 41
Chapter 41
When the banquet ended, Derek sent the guests out one by one.
Back in the room, Meredith was staring at the computer. She frowned and looked worried. She didn't
even notice that Derek had returned. It seemed that she was immersed in her own world.
Derek walked over and glanced at her computer screen, which contained some information about
overturning convictions. However, before he could see it clearly, Meredith sensed someone was
coming and quickly closed the web page.
Looking back, she saw that it was Derek. She stood up and said. "I want to look up some information."
Derek answered indifferently without saying anything.
Meredith saw that he seemed to be in a good mood, so she asked tentatively. "Well, I didn't tell them
about that matter. I don't know how they got the news."
Although Derek's Second Uncle and Second Aunt's words did not cause any serious consequences,
Meredith didn't want to get blamed for anything.
"I know." Derek frowned when he saw that she was in a hurry to explain.
Hans and his wife had been abroad for a while, and Meredith, as an outsider, couldn't possibly know
about the things of the Xaviers, so he never doubted her at all.
However, it seemed that she was afraid of being wronged by him and it made him very unhappy. In her
eyes, was he a person who couldn't tell right from wrong?
"That's good, that's good." Meredith nodded in relief. However, as she was about to leave, Derek
stopped her.
"You handled this well, not as stupid as I thought."
Meredith's lips twitched when she heard this, and she really wanted to beat him! He could have praised
her for her cleverness to make her happy, but he did the opposite to annoy her.
She wasn't even a little bit happy with that.
"Of course. I always have a quick mind." Meredith raised her head a little proudly and she was rarely
not so prim in front of Derek.
Derek looked into her bright eyes, thinking that it was the first time he saw Meredith acting like this in
front of him. She was not as reserved as usual but was more lively, just as a young girl of her age.
Looking at the girl's face in a daze for a moment, Derek realized something and his face suddenly
turned cold again. "Are you not ashamed to brag?"
After that, he turned around and went into the bathroom.
Meredith looked at his back, feeling helpless and speechless. Derek's face really changed so fast.
Could it be that he felt offended because she was joking when she spoke just now?
Thinking of this, Meredith felt down, ruled her face, and warned herself in her heart that she should
never be complacent again, lest Derek was unhappy.
In the bathroom, dripping water slowly slid down Derek's sturdy body. Looking at the white tiles in front
of him, the man frowned.
It was not a good sign that he would flip because of Meredith's smile and he hadn't been that for a long
time.
In the mist, Derek's dark eyes still sparkled with mixed feelings.
...
The next morning, Meredith got up early.
As soon as she went downstairs, she saw that Hans and Amber, who had messed up yesterday, were
both there.
Who would have thought that they would actually stay shamelessly?
Seeing Meredith, Amber's heart was filled with anger. If she had acted as what she should do
yesterday, Derek would definitely have lost his face.
Now, Derek was safe and sound. Instead, they were regarded as bad guys, which was indeed going for
wool and coming home worn.
"Hehe, isn't she a servant of the family? Why did she get to the second floor, where the master lives?"
Since no one else was around, there was no need for the couple to pretend to be good people, and
they said in a really sarcastic tone.
Meredith pretended not to hear it. It seemed that the two did not get along well with Derek and they
weren't nice to her, so she did not want to provoke him.
"Can you not hear me when I'm talking to you?" When Amber found that she was ignored, she became
even angrier. She rushed over. "It seems that no one has told you about the rules of the Xaviers, so
today I will let you know how to talk to your master..."
As she spoke, she waved her arm and was about to slap her. Meredith quickly took a step back and
avoided it.
However, she didn't expect Amber to be relentless. Seeing that she didn't slap Meredith, she wanted to
come over and slap her for the second time.
Meredith had already retreated to the wall, so there was nowhere for her to hide. Just as she was about
to be slapped, Zhou's hand was suddenly held in a strange position in mid-air.
Derek looked at Amber with indifference, and he pinched her wrist so hard as if he was crushing her
bones.
"Ah! It hurts!" As Amber looked at Derek, she was frightened by the man's cold, malevolent eyes.
"Derek? Why do you get up? Let go of your hand. It hurts!"
"If I don't get up, I might miss the show" Derek wasn't willing to let go. Only when he glanced at
Meredith did he let Amber go.
Looking at Derek, who was cold, Amber was so frightened that she stopped. It was true that the man in
front of her was her niece, but he was just like an emperor, who looked scronfully at the whole world,
looked down on her as if she was just an ant...
After a while, Hans realized what had happened, so he angrily tried to pull Amber away. "Derek, what
do you mean? Are you going to do something to your aunt for that woman?"
Meredith was not standing far away, in an awkward situation, and she didn't know whether she should
stay or leave. She was so embarrassed that she couldn't help but curl her lips when she heard him say
this.
"What did you mean by 'That woman'? Is she much more humble than anyone else and does she
deserve to be slapped for not doing anything in the morning?"
Hearing this, Derek smiled faintly, but there was no warmth in his eyes. "No matter what, in the Xaviers,
it's not up to you, my dear uncle and aunt, to give her a lesson. Even if she's wrong, only I can punish
her."
"You! Very Well. You are running wild now, and treating us like dirt, aren't you?" Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Since Hans lost his face, he pointed to Derek for a long time uttering the word "You". When it was in the
chaos, there was a sound from the upstairs, which is made by the stick of the Old Master when it was
hit on the floor. "It was still early in the morning, what are you doing?"
Recently, the weather was changeable, and the Old Master was not feeling well, so he didn't show up.
When Derek saw him, he let go of his hand. Then, he took out a handkerchief from the pocket inside,
and he wiped his hand, which he had used to grab her, carefully.
However, the casual behavior made Amber so angry that she even felt breathless. "Uncle, look at
Derek. I was just trying to teach that arrogant little girl a lesson. He pinched my wrist so hard that it
turns red. It still hurts now. At least he calls me aunt. Should he treat his elders like that?"
Meredith was involved in it helplessly, so she felt more disgusted about Amber. The Old Master looked
a little serious. He glanced at her and then said sternly. "I think you treat me as a sad old fool."
