Chapter 1504
The so-called authorization document was supposed to grant the Science Institute the rights to use the results developed by their department, wasn't it?
How did it become that the Science Institute only authorized their department to discuss the project as a topic and forbade its use for any other purpose?
Calvin felt a sense of disbelief rising within him. Could it be that Hank was trying to claim the results for himself?
"Wrong?" Hank seemed oblivious to the astonishment on Calvin's face. His fingers casually rested on the desk, and his voice suddenly took on a heavier tone:
"The project was always a confidential project of our Science Institute. Getting the authorization for your university to discuss it as a project topic took me several attempts at convincing our senior leadership."
His words implied a 'what more could you possibly want' attitude.
Calvin was always good at reading between the lines. It was clear to him that Hank wanted to take credit while appearing as the good guy in front of everyone. Yet, he couldn't expose him, nor could he afford to offend him.
Calvin pinched his fingers, still trying to secure as much leverage for his department as possible, "Although the project belongs to the Science Institute, the system was developed by our department, so..."
He was cut off by Hank raising his hand, "Since it's a collaborative project, our Science Institute holds the absolute primary usage rights. Are you trying to argue with the state, Mr. Calvin?"
Given the Science Institute was a state entity, Calvin saw Hank bringing up the state and immediately put on an apologetic smile, "You misunderstand, Hank. That wasn't my intention. It's just this authorization document... Maybe I should take it back and discuss it with Mr. Belcher before signing?"
"I don't have that much time," Hank said coolly, his expression turning slightly displeased.
However, after a moment's thought, he continued patiently, "Mr. Calvin, you are a reasonable man. This is just a simple authorization document. There's no need to make such a fuss, right?"
"This..." Calvin hesitated, the difficulty apparent on his face, "How about I call Mr. Belcher right now?"
Seeing this, Hank glanced at his wristwatch and said, "Alright, but make it quick. I only have five minutes before I have to leave."
"Okay..." Calvin nodded, rising from his chair, and then took the authorization document outside to make the call.
Hank remained seated, unmoved.noveldrama
Meanwhile, his assistant, after seeing Calvin step out, pondered for a moment before whispering, "I wonder if Mr. Calvin is savvy enough."
Hank's lips twitched into a smirk, "Don't worry, he'll sign when he comes back."
The assistant looked at him,
understanding that Calvin wasn't et
exactly a man of principle;
otherwise, he wouldn't always be seeking to curry favor with Hank.
Such a person surely knew how to read the room.
On the other end.
Calvin dialed Mr. Belcher's number, his gaze fixed on the authorization document in his hand, "...That's the situation. Once this document is stamped, Zane and the others will lose their autonomy over it."
Losing autonomy meant they could no longer freely use their developed technology without risking legal trouble.
Calvin's eyelashes fluttered down as he thought about the information he received from Zane yesterday-how the DO Group also happened to be interested in their life data systém. So, without waiting for Mr. Belcher to respond, he continued, "But if we don't stamp it, it might be difficult to explain to the Science Institute, since it's a national project."
What do you think?
