Brendon stared at her phone for a moment but no new messages came in. He knew Ranita's phone password and wanted to open it up and take a closer look but found that the password was incorrect! Brendon was dumbfounded! When did Ranita change her password?
A wave of displeasure washed over Brendon as he planned on asking Ranita about it. Just then, she walked out quickly and snatched her phone from his hand. "What are you doing with my phone?" she asked.
"I... my phone is dead so I wanted to use yours to call Caleb," Brendon replied after taking a deep breath. He then asked, "Did you change your password?"
"Mm-hmm," Ranita replied nonchalantly before walking away with her phone.
Brendon felt like he had just had a heart attack. She never used passwords to him before!
Ranita unlocked her screen and saw Jedidiah's message; after some thought, she replied, "I'm going on business trip in Qaesburg; let me know when you're coming." It wasn't that she was avoiding him; she really did have work obligations.
"When are you leaving? And when will you be back?" Jedidiah asked.
"I'm leaving today but I don't know when I'll be back," said Ranita who always let Brendon decide their travel itinerary since they were traveling together for work purposes.
Ranita thought for a moment and replied, "Let's talk about it later! I'll pack my things first, and then we can chat."
Ranita swiftly packed her belongings because she was used to traveling. She had a set of luggage specifically for business trips, with everything she needed. She just had to add some fresh clothes.
In the car, Brendon remained unusually silent.
Since the trip came up suddenly, Ranita called Olivia to instruct her on handling certain matters. Ranita spoke calmly and clearly, her voice neither sharp nor overly sweet, but refreshingly pleasant.
Brendon occasionally listened to her speak and became captivated by her words.
"What are you looking at me for?" Ranita said after hanging up the call. She looked up only to find that Brendon was staring at her silently with unblinking eyes. Fora moment, she felt a chill run down her spine.
"Just waiting for you to finish your call," said Brendon after pausing briefly. He handed over a thick stack of important documents, "This project information, you should take a look."
After scanning through them, Ranita saw that Allen was currently in the hospital, and since this was a crucial time, Brendon had to go there himself in order to gain a competitive edge. However, this project didn't actually require her presence.
"Hmm... It seems like there isn't any need for me here, right?"
She wondered if they should turn around now before reaching the airport since there wasn't much point in continuing forward anymore.
"In case of any unexpected situations," Brendon said, leaving Ranita speechless. He was the boss, and his word was final.
Ranita didn't argue and instead focused on reviewing the data again. Even if it was just a precautionary measure, she needed to be familiar with the information in case anything happened.
As they boarded first class, Ranita heard a surprised voice say, "Mr. Stuart? What a coincidence! Are you traveling to Qaesburg for business?"
"Hello Ms. Sutton," Brendon nodded politely.
Ranita knew Paityn from before - she was the one who had mocked her dress as being fake at their last encounter. She couldn't believe they were running into each other again.
"How coincidental!" Paityn's plump face smiled insincerely as she looked Ranita up and down. "Miss Bowman, you're here too! I remember you from last time."
"Is that so? Your memory is impressive," Ranita replied coolly as she took Brendon's laptop bag and placed it in their luggage compartment.
She thought that would be enough to shut Paityn up but apparently not - Paityn continued speaking with an even more condescending tone, "Of course! How could I forget you after seeing you wear the same dress as Miss Murphy?"
This group of people was already eye-catching enough.
When Paityn made that remark, the other passengers in the cabin, as well as the flight attendants, turned their heads with curiosity. They could sense the scent of gossip!
