The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 487

Chapter 487

Once in the car, Cordelia felt a sense of melancholy, as if her soul had been left behind, but thankfully,

the university was not a lonely place, and she had grown quite fond of her job.

When the driver pulled up to the Unity Hall, he got out and personally carried Cordelia's luggage up to

her room. Harold and a few students, returning from a game of basketball, offered to lend a hand.

"What's all this?" Harold casually asked, picking up a box.

"Well, it's just some food that he packed for me from Millstone," Cordelia replied.

She emphasized 'he' in front of Harold, intending to make it clear that she and Harold were over, and

he should stop pining for her.

"Ronan is much better than me. I can't compete," Harold admitted sincerely. How could he compete

with Ronan? His mother worked as a maid at the Evans', which put him at a disadvantage. Cordelia

had borne Ronan's child, and the gifts Ronan showered her with were things Harold couldn't afford.

Since Sean and Sally had returned to the university and spread the news through Sally’s gossiping,

everyone knew Cordelia was Ronan's wife. According to Sally, they had a big, happy family. Although

they didn’t know Cordelia and Ronan were divorced, Harold shouldn’t disrupt this “happiness”, right?

Back home, Cordelia washed a few apples and enjoyed them while relaxing. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.

A notification from Messenger popped up on her phone. It was from the dean’s office:

[A public class for new professors was to be held next week, with current faculty members grading the

performance.]

The notice was sudden, but it was a good opportunity to showcase teachers' abilities.

Cordelia was one of the twenty-plus new professors who had joined the university this year.

She flipped through her textbook, preparing her lecture, and then sent a message to her students on

Messenger: [Next Wednesday, we'll be discussing big data and decision analysis in an open class.

Please prepare in advance.]

The chat group consisted of all first-year finance students. Upon receiving her message, they

responded with a flurry of 'ok' emojis.

On Monday, Cordelia noticed a notice posted by the administration department: The university had

purchased a plot of land off-campus and was planning to build housing. Any professors interested in

purchasing a house were encouraged to sign up.

Cordelia thought about it; she would eventually settle down in Birchwood. But for now, her place in

Unity Hall was sufficient. Besides, she was interested in buying a house in Edith Hills.

Initially, "Edith Hills" was just a part of her work, but ever since Ronan had named the development

"Edith," her feelings toward it had changed. She found herself inexplicably attached to the area.

"Cordelia, I'll be one of the professors grading your class on Wednesday," Petra, who had seemingly

appeared out of nowhere, informed her. "I've already received the evaluation form. It'll all depend on

your performance."

"Really? Well, I'll have to ask you to write a few nice things about me then," Cordelia responded,

confident that Petra would do so.

Petra was a very agreeable person, and Cordelia was confident in her teaching skills.

"Are you thinking of buying a house?" Petra asked, glancing at the notice.

The public announcement had been made earlier on the university's official account, so Petra was

already aware of it.

"Oh, no, my place at the university is enough for me. Just checking this out."

Cordelia noticed Petra's attention was still on the notice and asked, "Are you thinking of buying a

house?"

"Yes. The houses are priced at a tenth of the market price, so everyone's interested. But it requires full

payment upfront, and I don't have that much money. My family can't help either," Petra confessed,

somewhat embarrassed. "Cordelia, could you lend me some money?"

"Me? All my money is tied up in a long-term savings account," Cordelia explained. When she divorced

Ronan, she had deposited all the money he gave her into the bank, leaving only a bit for living

expenses. But seeing Petra in such a predicament, she suggested, "Have you asked Ronan?"

"Borrowing money is..." Petra trailed off with a bitter smile. "Even as old friends, it's difficult. Besides,

his money didn't just fall from the sky."

"How about I ask him for you?" Cordelia suggested, feeling that Petra was trustworthy.
