The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 244

Chapter 244

Jamie exited Cordelia's bedroom, finding Ronan still perched where he'd left him, puffing on a cigar.

"Leaving so soon?" Ronan asked, a smirk curling his lips. "Not sticking around for more chit-chat?" The

way he said 'chit-chat,' so pointed, it struck a nerve in Jamie. Was Ronan suggesting something more?

"Indeed, farewell, Mr. Evans." And with that, Jamie was out the door.

Cordelia remained in her room, feeling a chill creep up her spine that made her head spin. She was

about to lock herself in for a good night's sleep when she saw Ronan, standing outside her door, about

to push it open.

Memories of how he'd forced Kendra to abort rushed to her mind, sending a shiver down her spine.

She was constantly afraid for her own unborn children.

In the past, she'd only known a fraction of who Ronan really was, just the tip of the iceberg.

"Do...do you need something?" Cordelia asked, her voice trembling. Tonight's events had left her pale

as a ghost.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"Me? Nothing, just feeling a bit cold."

"Cold?" Ronan took her hand, icy to the touch. Her hair was damp from her earlier venture into the

living room.

"Lie down!" he commanded, a hint of concern lining his forehead.

Cordelia, with her twins, didn't have the option of defiance, so she obediently slipped under the covers,

trembling all over.

Ronan piled on more blankets and placed warm towels on her forehead. Then, he made a call,

standing by the window, his free hand in his pocket.

"She's probably caught a chill. I need you to come over."

"I'll text you the new address."

"Bring some of your remedies."

Cordelia drifted off to sleep in her daze. In her dreams, she was encased in ice, gradually warming up

by a bonfire.

She was roused by the murmur of hushed conversation. Her mouth was dry and bitter, and she felt

miserable all over.

"Is she okay?" It was Ronan's voice.

"A normal person would be fine, but since she's pregnant, we can't give her common cold medicine.

Fortunately, I brought plenty of herbal remedies. Brew her some." The other voice was gentle, probably

a man in his sixties.

"Dr. Krueger, this is Cordelia." Ronan introduced the old man as he noticed Cordelia stirring.

"Dr. Krueger, nice to meet you." Cordelia's voice was hoarse.

"Mr. Evans, you go start the tea," Dr. Krueger directed.

Cordelia kept her wary eyes on Ronan. She was terrified of him brewing her medicine. If anything

happened to her pregnancy, not only would she be at risk of infertility, but potentially face life-

threatening health issues. Given how far along she was, she was determined to protect her babies at

all costs. She had already given up on her graduate studies abroad for them.Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.

"Rest well, you'll feel better after a good sweat." Dr. Krueger advised, scribbling out a couple more

prescriptions for her. He handed them to Cordelia, bid Ronan goodbye in the kitchen, and left.

About half an hour later, Ronan walked in with a bowl of brewed medicine. Cordelia's heart pounded in

her chest as Ronan handed the bowl to her. She swallowed hard, her gaze fixed on the bowl.

"What are you afraid of?" he asked.
