The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 227

Chapter 227

Cordelia retreated to her room, immersing herself in online classes. As for whether Deanna visited

Ronan's room that night and what they might have done, she had no clue. Nor did she particularly care,

though her mind did occasionally wander.

Days passed uneventfully, and before she knew it, a month and a half had flown by. She'd sleep during

the day while Ronan was at work.

Their schedules were always staggered, often going days without seeing each other. She did, however,

see Barney daily. Every afternoon, after she woke up, she'd head downstairs for a meal and chat with

Barney about her studies.

"Della, I know you went abroad to study because you were mourning your mother. If you ever

encounter any difficulties overseas, remember that you can always come home. I will be waiting,"

Barney said, patting Cordelia's hand.

"Mm," Cordelia responded, touched.

She thought to herself, “How did a scholar as good as Barney end up with a grandson like Ronan? He Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

was ruthless, violent, and extremely cunning.

On Saturday, Cordelia had a rare day off. Janice had specially made large pies and invited Cordelia to

join them. Ronan was present too, but he kept his distance from Cordelia, and the two rarely spoke.

Cordelia devoured four or five pies in a row. They were filled with carrot and beef, and were delicious.

She praised Janice's culinary skills while mentioning how long it had been since she'd had pies.

Janice regarded Cordelia with surprise, asking, "Ma'am, when did you develop such a hearty appetite?"

Cordelia, holding a pie, looked bemused. "They're tasty! Why wouldn't I eat more?"

"But you've eaten so much, aren't you...?" Janice's gaze slid towards Ronan. "Ma'am, you're not

pregnant, are you? Shouldn't you go to the hospital for a check-up?"

"How could that be possible?" Cordelia retorted instinctively, her face changing color slightly.

Ronan's face had turned dark. In his eyes, Cordelia saying, "how could that be possible" was merely an

evasion, a way to keep Barney and Janice from knowing she was carrying a bastard child.

But for Cordelia, it was truly just "instinct."

Ronan left without finishing his meal, leaving Cordelia alone to finish her pie.

One night, Cordelia went downstairs for a glass of water and noticed Ronan's bedroom door was open,

seemingly unoccupied. She guessed he must have been out. He had started staying out late.

In the following days, she didn't see Ronan at all. Like this, another half a month slipped by.

One evening, Cordelia was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open. She thought of taking a quick

nap on her bed before continuing her studies. She was puzzled by her sudden bouts of drowsiness.

Her laptop was left on. Ronan entered her room, his eyes drawn to the Messenger chat on her screen.

It was a conversation between her and Jamie.

Cordelia. [Studying now, starting to get the hang of it.]

[You've always been a hard worker, I'm sure you'll get into grad school next year. Oh, and did you

divorce him yet? When are you planning to come back?]

[Oh, and our firm is about to go public, I've thought of so many names, can you help me choose? One

of them is First Enterprises. I think it sounds good, it signifies that our firm is 'first-rate.' What do you

think?]

[If you don't respond, I'll take it as a yes. Are you in class, or did you go back to sleep?]

Jamie sent an ellipsis [...], and the conversation ended there.

They were planning to start a firm together! Indeed, both were studying accounting, so they had a lot in

common!

First Enterprises...

Ronan clenched his teeth tightly.
