The Cherished Wife

Chapter 286

“Please come in!” May’s eyes shone with satisfaction, which made Noelle happy as well. However, she remembered that her grandfather seemed somewhat displeased about their marriage.

She glanced at Charles, intending to pull her hand away from his, but Charles held on firmly.

May saw this and felt genuinely happy. “Ms. Noelle, why don’t you and your husband go and have a chat with Sir Jones? He often talks about you when you’re not around. I’ll go make your favorite casserole.”

“Really? The seafood casserole?” Noelle’s eyes sparkled. “Thank you, May!”

Charles handed Noelle a pair of shoes to change into, then changed his own. After that, he led her into the living room while holding her hand.

Sebastian had already heard their conversation and was eagerly waiting for them. However, when they finally came in, he pretended to be reading the newspaper. In fact, he was not actually reading a single word.

Holding Charles‘ hand, Noelle saw her grandfather pretending to read the newspaper while actually looking at them. His demeanor made Noelle almost laugh.

Sebastian squinted his eyes. Upon noticing Noelle’s expression, he huffed. Noelle let go of Charles‘ hand and went over to her grandfather. “Grandpa, I’m back!”

“Hmph! You still remember the way home?” Sebastian said, glancing at Charles. Charles stood there, unphased. He was holding a gift box, still exuding confidence.

Sebastian felt quite satisfied but still showed displeasure on his face. “Young man, you’re quite impressive!”

“Grandpa!” Charles smiled, but Sebastian snorted coldly.

“I think I don’t deserve to be called that by you!”

Charles understood immediately that the old man was upset about him quietly marrying his granddaughter. “Of course, you do.” Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

Sebastian turned his head away. Noelle, feeling anxious, glared at Charles and hurried to comfort her grandfather, “Grandpa, please don’t be angry. It’s all my fault. It was my idea not to tell you about marrying Charles.”

“Hmm?” Sebastian looked suspicious. “Don’t try to cover for him. I know this brat too well.”

“It’s the truth!” Feeling guilty, Noelle clung to Sebastian’s arm and shook it gently. “It really was my fault. When Charles and I got our marriage certificate, he wanted to tell everyone, but I wouldn’t let him.”

Noelle glanced at Charles, who said, “Grandpa, it’s not Noelle’s fault. It’s mine.”

“Hmph, of course, I knew it was you! I only have one precious granddaughter, and you quietly took her away.” Sebastian was not really angry but was still displeased about being kept in the dark. He felt he needed to show some dissatisfaction.

Noelle felt a headache coming on and bit her lip. “Our marriage was very sudden, and I wasn’t prepared to tell you yet. We planned to tell you later, but you found out so suddenly…”

Before Noelle could finish, Charles took her hand and gently patted it. “Didn’t you make stew for Grandpa?

Charles said. “Why don’t you take it to May?”

Noelle wanted to say more, but when she saw Charles‘ expression, she let it go.

Charles nodded slightly, and Noelle understood that he wanted to speak with her grandfather alone.
