The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 347 Plan of Action

When Emily walked into Mason's hospital room, Scarlett and Veda were already there.

Benjamin must have called them, just like they planned.

She glanced at Benjamin, who caught her eye and stepped forward politely. "Mrs. Smith, you're here."

Benjamin's helplessness seemed to be part of the act.

Sticking to the plan, Emily kept her expression neutral. "Yeah, I'm here to see Grandpa."

Emily's casual tone, however, irked Scarlett.

For days, Scarlett had been looking for a way to get rid of Mason. He was a threat to her control over the Smith family and her position as the matriarch.

So, Scarlett always came with Veda, pretending to take care of Mason, but really waiting for her chance. And now, Emily had to show up and mess things up.

Veda and Michael were usually busy running between Smith Corporation and the hospital, their schedules predictable.

But Emily? How could Scarlett predict her?

What if she made a move and Emily suddenly appeared, just like her mother did back then? Scarlett couldn't help but take a sharp breath, cursing Emily and Isabella in her heart.

"Emily," Veda voiced.

Whether it was the stress of running a household or Michael's injury and hospitalization, Veda's attitude towards Emily had turned cold and indifferent.

Seeing this, Scarlett naturally showed even less kindness to Emily, adding a few more complaints.

"If you have nothing to do, don't come here and disturb Mr. Smith's rest. You act like you care, but he doesn't need your concern. Why do you keep coming here pretending to be worried?"

Emily stayed calm, but a hint of sarcasm crept into her voice.noveldrama

"You know that, so why are you here? Are you pretending too?"

"I..." Scarlett hadn't expected Emily to clap back and was at a loss for words.

"She's Grandpa's daughter-in-law, and you're about to be a divorced granddaughter- in-law. How is that the same?" Veda chimed in unexpectedly, her expression as indifferent as Michael's.

Emily looked at her, momentarily stunned.

A daughter should stand up for her mother, according to the plan.

But Emily felt a pang of bitterness. She once thought she had changed this rebellious girl, that their relationship would improve.

But it turned out to be worse than before.

Veda hadn't changed at all, or maybe she had just been pretending. Deep down, she was still like Michael. They were siblings, and she was practically another Michael.

Seeing Emily's momentary shock, Benjamin quickly coughed twice, breaking the awkward atmosphere.

Emily snapped back to reality, took a deep breath, placed the bouquet she was holding on the bedside table, and tightly gripped the strap of her bag. She looked at Veda. "Veda, we need to talk."

Scarlett, thinking Emily was going to manipulate Veda, quickly intervened, "There's nothing to talk about! Emily, what do you want to say to Veda? I'm warning you, don't push your luck. You're about to leave the Smith family, so stop acting like Veda's sister- in-law and lecturing her!"

Scarlett's voice was sharp and grating. If Benjamin hadn't quickly closed the door, the nurses outside would have rushed in to stop them.

Emily remembered Mason's instructions.

She knew time was running out, and she needed to act quickly according to the plan.

Otherwise, she would let Mason down. Scarlett was just a small obstacle.

She might be powerful now, but soon she wouldn't know what hit her.

"I don't mean anything else. I just want to talk to Veda about Daniel," Emily explained. Daniel?

Mentioning his name made Scarlett even more displeased.

She never wanted Veda and Daniel to be together.

Daniel only like Emily, but Veda had feelings for Daniel. This complicated relationship embarrassed her. Besides, Daniel was a doctor, not a businessman. Even if his family was wealthy, so what?

Doctors didn't make as much money as businessmen. How could Veda get money from her husband's family to spend?

So, Scarlett was very unhappy with Veda and Daniel's relationship.

But Veda's attitude had changed.

She had liked Daniel for a long time and just wanted to be with him. But Daniel's attitude towards her had always been lukewarm. Now that Emily wanted to talk about Daniel, how could she not be interested?

Before Scarlett could start scolding, Veda interrupted.

"Okay."

Scarlett stared at Veda, who was getting up. She wanted to stop her but was pushed away by Veda.

"Mom, just take care of yourself." Her tone was still icy.

Emily watched this scene, impressed by Veda's newfound assertiveness.

Veda left the room first, and Scarlett, unable to do anything, sat in the chair, fuming and glaring at Emily.

Emily followed Veda out, but not before giving Benjamin a meaningful look. Benjamin received the signal and, after they left, urgently said to Scarlett, "Mrs. Smith, the doctor just called for Mr. Smith's family to go to the office. Shouldn't you..." Scarlett's instinctive reaction was to refuse.

She had orchestrated everything. She knew Mason's condition. Why would she need the doctor to tell her? She didn't want to hear any nonsense!

Besides, the doctor called for the patient's family, and she never considered herself part of that.

As Mason had predicted, Scarlett didn't want to go, so she urged Benjamin to go instead.

During this brief moment, Scarlett realized something important. Emily and Veda had gone out to talk, and Benjamin was going to the doctor's office.

Wasn't this her chance?

Thinking of this, Scarlett's gaze shifted to the sleeping Mason on the bed.

A wicked glint appeared in her eyes, and a sinister smile curled her lips.
