Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Lucian’s mom, Miranda Lindberg–Cruz, had a nasty car crash a while back that messed up her legs and eyes pretty badly
After months of rehab in the hospital, she finally had eye surgery. Because of all this, she missed Lucian’s engagement party. Now, she was almost back to her old self and couldn’t wait to meet her future daughter–in–law.
Lucian’s phone buzzed and he left Allison to keep his mom company while he took the call.
“Penelope, come here; let me take a look at you.” Miranda’s eyes were still bandaged, so she couldn’t see. She reached out and grabbed Allison’s wrist, saying with a worried tone, “Why are you so thin? Don’t diet too much; a little extra never hurt anybody.”
“Okay. Allison replied gently.
Miranda really liked Allison’s sweet nature. Holding onto Allison’s hand, she said, “I’m sorry I missed the engagement party. Penelope, I want to give you something to make up for it.”
With that, Miranda removed a bracelet from her wrist and slipped it onto Allison’s.
The bracelet looked pretty pricey and Allison was hesitant to accept it. “This bracelet’s too expensive; I can’t take it.”
“If you don’t accept it, is it because you’re mad at me for not attending the engagement party?” Miranda teased. Allison was flustered and looked to Lucian for help. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Lucian smiled and said, “If it’s from my mom, you should accept it.”
With no way out, Allison stopped refusing. She reached into her bag and pulled out a bracelet she’d made from red string. “I made this bracelet myself.”
At this point, she added somewhat shyly, “It’s not anything fancy, I hope you won’t mind.”
“I love it; thank you!” Miranda immediately put the bracelet on. Even though she couldn’t see, she felt it over and over and was clearly delighted.
The value of a gift didn’t depend on how expensive it was, but on the thought behind it.
In her life, Miranda had seen all kinds of luxury goods. Plenty of people tried to suck up to the Lindberg’family by showering her with pricey paintings and jewels worth millions.
But she felt that this bracelet was worth more.
She was thrilled that her son had found such a good wife.
After spending some time with Miranda, Allison gave her and Lucian some time alone once he finished his call. Using an excuse, she left the room.
She was worried about Grace, whom she had bumped into earlier in the elevator. After leaving the VIP ward, she went straight to Grace’s
room.
But instead of Grace, there was a strange middle–aged man lying in the bed. She looked around but couldn’t find Grace anywhere.
She anxiously asked a nurse, “Where’s the lady who was in this bed?”
The nurse replied, “You mean Grace? She was just moved to bed number 03 in the hallway.”
Allison was taken aback, “The hallway?”
Why was her mom moved to the corridor?
