CHAPTER NINE
Sometimes later I ended up back in the room I was staying in at Cayne’s house— after a shopping spree with Cayne’s mother. I was wearing Versace jeans and a Chanel sweatshirt with the symbol of the crossed C’s on my chest.
Layla was sitting in my bed, she had planned to visit me without informing the girls because she said she misses me a lot. In our squad, Layla and I are the very close ones. I told her about what happened in the restaurant, her mouth was agape, and her eyes were wide.
“She’s gonna kill you?” she screamed.
“Shhh,” I shushed her. I walked to the door and took a quick peek. Gladly, no one was snooping around. I closed the door and whirled around to glare at her. “Dammit, Layla, you will get us killed you know. You gotta be quiet.
“Why?” She hissed quietly. “Shouldn’t you tell Cayne about it?”
I hooked my head before she’d even finished speaking.
“No, no, not yet. We’re not sure if she’s really trying to kill me yet.” I paused. “If things start to get bad and serious, I’ll tell him. But as for now, no.”
Layla didn’t seem to agree, but she still nodded.
“How are you going to keep yourself safe until then?” she asked, worried.
I grinned and flashed a can at her, “Pepper spray,” I said simply.
“Really? A pepper spray?” She asked annoyed.
A sudden knocked on the door and seconds later it opened, revealing Cayne who was dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt. Again, he made an outfit so simple look like the sexiest thing on the planet. He looked at Layla wearing a guilty expression and he looked at my innocent expression with distrustful eyes.
“Cayne,” I said, flinching at how high my voice was. I’ve always been terrible at covering myself. I couldn’t lie. And sometimes, it becomes a terrible problem. “What are you doing here? I thought you were going to the office today.”
“I did.” He looked over my shoulder and smiled at Layla.
“You’re Raszhiel’s friend, Layla right?”
I heard her squeak and I knew her face must have been redder than Santa’s suit.
“Yes, Layla. Nice to meet you.” She extended her hand to Cayne. Cayne also did the same.
“Well, Anica’s downstairs,” Liam said, his lips were pressed in a thin line.
I tilted my head to the side in my surprise. Anica Clark is here now? Why had she decided to come now? I was already looking left and right to make sure I didn’t get murdered, and now she’s here?
I let out a deep sigh, “Can I just stay here?”
“No, you should at least say hi.” He said.
“Why would I say hi to your secretary?”
“You have to. I’m gonna introduce you to her as my wife so she won’t bother me anymore,” He said annoyingly. “And mom’s downstairs, you know her. She likes Anica, even though she’s my secretary when it comes to her visiting me, she considers her as someone special.”
I let out a deep sigh. We all shuffled downstairs. Cayne took my hand and squeezed it as we walked down the corridor leading to the living room.
“Are you okay?” he whispered.
I looked at him in surprise, “Yes of course, why?”
“You look…..” he struggled to find the right word, “distressed,” he finally said.
Wow. He was a lot smarter than his pretty-boy looks ever let on. I hate to lie. Like I said, I was very terrible at it. But at this moment, I had to.
I force a smile and said, “I’m fine. The dinner with your colleagues just took a lot out of me, that’s all.”
He looked like he didn’t believe me, but said nothing.
Anica is sitting beside Cayne’s mother. Cayne, Layla, and I walked in. Layla sits shyly on a single couch.
“Hey, lover boy,” Anica greeted Cayne flirtatiously. “Hi, uhm Raszhiel, right? Tita already told me about you.”
Cayne nodded once, looking bored. Anica looked crestfallen and I know why. I guess she was used to guys fawning all over her. So, for Cayne to treat her like she didn’t even exist had to drive her crazy. This pissed me off. I think she is planning so badly. Is he trying to take Cayne from me? He wasn’t mine, but fuck, she doesn’t know that.
“So what bring you here? Aren’t you supposed to be at the office, working?” Cayne asked after we’d taken our seats.
“Of course she is visiting you, honey.” Cayne’s mother answered on behalf of Anica. Layla- bless her soul- look incredibly uncomfortable.
She’s just looking at me, then to Cayne, and then to Anica and Cayne’s mother.
“Well, I just wanted to check out on you. If you were doing great,” she smiled. She looks like an angel to me when she smiles but I don’t know on the inside. What Nicholas said about her in the restaurant bothers me a lot. I don’t know if I should believe him or not.
“Of course I’m doing great,” Cayne looked at me while he said that. “You saw me already at the office earlier, no need to check out on me because I have a beautiful wife that will do that from now on.” He smiled sweetly.
Everyone is looking at me. Cayne, Layla, Anica, and Cayne’s mother — the whole fucking room turned and stared at me.
I just smiled at them. A real smile as I thought. This would be the perfect time to rub of to her face that I am not affected at all.
“This is great,” she shrieked, reaching over and hugged me. I was slightly taken aback by what she had done.
When sheet me go, I saw Cayne’s raised eyebrow from the corner of my eye. Layla looked shocked, worried at the same time. “I can help you about Cayne’s likes and dislikes. You know, I’m not just his secretary, I am more than what you think.” She smiled as if she’s trying to tell me that she knows Cayne’s better than I am. The looks on her face is kinda creepy.
My problem with Anica is getting bigger now because she may or may not be trying to kill me.

After Anica and Layla left, which was around nine o’clock, I slumped on the couch, physically and mentally exhausted.
Cayne sat beside me and stared at me. After a while, I spoke.
“What?” I snapped in annoyance.
“There’s something you’re not telling me, Raszhiel,” he murmured.
“There’s a lot of things I’m not telling you.” I covered my nervousness with an attitude. “We only meet four days ago.”
It was surreal to believe because it had only been four days since Cayne and I had met and now here I was. Living in a castle-like mansion, wearing expensive designer clothes, and talking to one of the gorgeous men on the planet.
Cayne’s lips pulled down to the corner. It was amazing how he could still manage to look amazing while scowling.
“Don’t play dumb, Kein. We both know that you are lying. I’m not stupid enough to not notice anything. What is it that you aren’t telling me?” I looked at him when he called my second name. It feels so different. Layla and my parents were the only persons who call me by my second name. And now, Cayne. It gives chills all over my body.
I just laughed, the sound was a little breathy and nervous.
“Honestly, Cayne, I don’t know what you are talking about.”Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
He just stared at me. I remember how he kept telling me how a bad liar I was. How he could see right through me. And I knew for sure that he could see right through my facade. I have to get out. Now!
I jumped up to leave, but Cayne has seemed to guess my plan. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me back down. I struggled in his strong yet gentle hands to no avail. He was just too strong.
I pouted and he chuckled. “Hope you didn’t have a hot date.”
“I did.”
“What?” His eyes burned with anger. What’s wrong with this man. I couldn’t understand him sometimes. He’s making me think that he actually is into me.
I sighed. “Yep, with my bed,”
“Oh.” His mood brighten up and grinned widely. “Of course, you shouldn’t fall in love with any other guy when I’m around,” he said cockily. “I mean, why would you want someone else when you could have this.” He gestured vainly to himself.
I rolled my eyes. Okay, he looked so damn hot today with those blue jeans and a simple white shirt. So what he had his eyes so blue they made the skim dim in comparison? So what underneath those clothes was that this guy was packing major muscle? So what? He was just a cocky asshole and I hate cocky assholes. He played girls like a violinist played by a violin. And that’s what he was doing to me. Playing me. He wanted to get me in bed to tell everyone that he finally screwed the black chick who was hard to get. Well, he wouldn’t get the chance. I am not planning to give my virginity to him. No fucking way.
“Cayne, can you let me go, please? I’m tired.”
He looked at me, and, undoubtedly, saw my tired-looking expression. I am very tired, truly. Today had been a long day.
He nodded and let me go, his face is unreadable. I left and didn’t look back because I already know that his eyes were on me.

3rd Person’s POV
He watched as she got out on the bed, completely unaware that she was being watched. He snapped a few pictures with his camera and walked away quickly before anyone could catch him there. He had to admit, this job made him feel guilty. And by this job he didn’t mean being a hitman. He’d kill countless people in his times. No, it wasn’t the job that made him feel guilty, it was her. The girl.
She reminded him of someone, someone whom he loved, someone who is long gone. He shook his head. He needs to do it. And he needs to do it soon.

Raszhiel’s POV
I felt like I was being watched so I ended up closing the curtains shut before laying down to bed again.
Again, like the first night, I couldn’t sleep again. I frowned. I don’t want to ask Cayne to sleep with me. That would just be….. random and….. weird.
But eventually, the door opened and other he stood, shirtless and sexy before my eyes.
He smiled and said nothing, only climbed into the bed beside me and held me close to him. It feels weird. I don’t know. But I just feel comfortable when he is beside me. I know it’s wrong because I was the one who insisted in the contract that we should sleep in different rooms and beds. And yes we do sleep differently, sometimes. But damn, I can’t help myself.
Without even realizing it, I doze off to sleep.
