Chapter 18

A week passed and Rafael learned so many things about his wife. Amber is not like those girls he

usually hangs out with, she’s not afraid to meet with bare face with a messy hair. She laughs at the

littlest things and is someone who is concern with others.

Sometimes he is doubting if the Amber he is with now is just a façade or real. But nevertheless, he fell

for her. He loves her and he has no plans to let go of her. He’s not really good at expressing his love

vocally but he tries to show it through his actions.

“Hon, I will be leaving you for a moment.” Gabriel said grabbing her attention from the book she’s

reading. “I have to meet up with the gang, it seems that Danielle is in trouble and Joshua is asking for

help.”

“Is that so?” Amber said and turned her attention to the book. “You can go, I want to finish reading this

today.” She added.

“I’ll be back as soon as possible.” Rafael said with hesitation. He can’t leave her behind since his

parents are out for a date. “On second thought, I will not go out today.” He said making Amber put a

bookmark on the book and look at him.

“Aren’t you going to see your friends?” She asked frowning. “If you’re worried about me being left alone

here in the house, you don’t have to worry. The helpers are here and the dogs, so basically, I am not

alone.” She added.

“Even though. I will call them; we can have our meeting here.” Rafael said as he brings out his phone.

“I really can’t leave you here alone.” He added as he dials Joshua’s number.

“It’s up to you.” She said and continued reading.

He doesn’t know if she’s hallucinating or what but he saw a glimpse of sadness and disappointment on

Amber’s eyes. He wants to confirm it but Joshua answered his call.

“Hey, man! Is it okay if we will just meet here at my parents’ house? I can’t leave Amber here alone.”

He asked.

“Okay, bud. Just inform the others, I still need to talk with Danielle.” Joshua answered before cutting the

line. He immediately informed the others and it’s good that they’re fine with it.

“Did they agree?” Amber asked when he took a seat beside her on the couch.

“Fortunately, yes.” Rafael said putting his chin on Amber’s shoulder. “I really can’t leave you behind.”

“I will not run away from you, if that is bothering you.” Amber said, sadness and disappointment are

evident on her tone. “Don’t you trust me?” She asked. “Well, how can you trust a person who…” Rafael

shut her up by kissing her red, tempting lips.

“I have trust on you, Amber.” Rafael sternly said looking straight in her eyes. “It’s just that I don’t want

to be away from you especially that aside from the helpers and the two adventurous dogs are here, you

don’t have anyone to call.”

“Rafa…” Amber is speechless and can’t find any words to say. Rafael smiled and captured her lips

again.

“Your lips are really addicting.” Rafael said when their lips parted.

“I know, that is why you should stop kissing me or else your friends might see us.” Amber said in

dazed, her eyes are focused on Rafael’s lips.

“We can always go to our room, and let them wait.” Rafael grinned and moves closer to capture her

lips, again, but she pushed him away.

“Behave!” She warned him. “I know what you are thinking.”

“Fine!” Rafael sulked and wrapped his arms on her waist.

Amber smiled and leaned on his chest as she opens the book and started reading again, but she can’t

concentrate because Rafael is asking her what the book is about. She actually summarized what she

had read to him.

A little while a continuous honk of car is heard in the gate.

“It must be those, jerks.” Rafael said as he looked at his watch. “I’ll go and open the gate.”

“Then I will go and ask Linda to prepare snacks.” Amber said as she places the book on the center

table. Rafael nods as he presses a button near the entrance to open the gate.

“What took you so long to open the damn gate?” Lohan asked as they enter the door and immediately

took their places as if it is their own house.

“We will use my father’s study room.” Rafael said sighing at the sight of his friends—they are in their

casual clothes and some are seated on the couch and some are seated on the floor even if there are

available seats. “I will just ask them to send the snack there first so that we will not be disturbed.” He

added. And on cue, Linda came out from the kitchen holding a tray of juice and cups followed by Anna

who is holding a tray full of croissants baked by Amber. He instructed them to put those in the study

room.

A little while, Amber came out from the kitchen holding a plate of peeled apples and oranges.

“Hi there, Amber.” Lohan greeted her casually as if they are very close.

“Hey!” Amber smiled making Rafael frown. Amber noticed it and approached him kissing his cheeks.

“It seems that things are doing well between you two.” Gabriel said eyeing at them with his suspicious

eyes.

“We’re trying to work things out.” Rafael answered.

“That’s good.” Joshua said. And looked at their friends. “How about you guys? Is settling down not in

your plan?”

“Me? Hmm… I don’t know.” Lohan said them arced their eyebrows. “How about you, Gab?”

“I’m busy with work.” Gabriel said, but even if he doesn’t say a thing, they already knew that he is still

hurting inside.

“How about you, Phil?” Rafael asked.

“Haven’t meet my match yet.” Phil shrugged.

“Even if your mom is always setting you up with a blind date?” He asked.

“Yeah.” Phil shrugged. “I mean, I need a wife not a clown.” Phil rolled his eyes. “Mom always set me up

with woman who has thick make-up and man! Their attitude is another thing, they’re shouting at waiters

for serving late or for a single mistake. I can’t even tolerate talking to them, it makes my head hurts.”

Phil said. “And now that you’ve mentioned it, my mom set me another date next week.” He said,

frustration is written all over his face.

“And that is for the nth time?” Lohan asked, laughing.

“Fifty-fifth times?” Phil answered frowning. “I don’t know and I don’t care.” He sighed.

“So that means, the articles about you being a playboy is not true?” Amber can’t help not to asked.

“Yep, they’re just exaggerating things!” Phil nodded. “And I can’t believe that people are buying those

crap! I mean, they don’t even know me.”

“You’re reading those magazines?” Rafael asked.

“Nope, it was Kaylee who is reading those. She just mentioned it to me in the past.” Amber answered.

“I should excuse myself so that you can talk.” She said. “I’ll be in the garden if you need me.”

“I should’ve brought Danielle with me so that you can get to know each other.” Joshua said.

“It’s okay, maybe next time we can get to know each other.” She smiled. “How is she, by the way? I

heard from Rafa that she is also pregnant.” She asked making Joshua sigh.

“She’s a glutton when it comes to strawberries.” Joshua said. “It’s a good thing that we are here or else,

we will really have a hard time since she wanted it freshly picked.” He added making her giggle. “How

about you, Amber?” Joshua asked.

“Chocolates.” She immediately answered. “And pan de sal.” She meaningfully added as she looked at

Rafael. And all of Rafa’s friends laughed at her remark, while Rafa sighed and massaged his temple.

“You know what, I’m starting to like you.” Phil said to Amber in the middle of laughter. Rafael who heard

this throw the throw pillow to his friend. “And there goes the possessive husband.” Phil added as he

catches the pillow.

“I never thought that you would say that, Amber.” Lohan said while suppressing his laughter. “Pan de

sal…” He burst out laughing. “As in Rafa’s abs!” He added making her sigh.

“Why don’t you look for your missing fiancée instead of laughing me?” Amber asked arcing her brows

making Rafa frown in surprise.

She knows about that? How? Is his wife and Lohan friends? The way they bicker indicates so. But why

neither of them tells him so.

“Bull’s eye!” Phil said grinning.

“You know about that?” Gabriel asked Amber. Rafael notice that Amber was taken aback.

“W-well, Kaylee shared me that information when we had a simple celebration in the restaurant, she

said that she read it in a magazine.” Amber answered.

“Is that so?” Gabriel said as he looks at him, even Joshua is looking at him with concerning eyes. Phil

is busy teasing Lohan so he didn’t hear it.

What bothers Rafael is that there really is a connection between Amber and Lohan, but why are they

not saying anything to him. And they are being so familiar to each other, even if they only meet once in

his restaurant, that is not enough reason for Lohan to act familiar to Amber.

Could it be that they were ex-lovers? But Lohan, ever since is looking for his fiancée. Could it be…. He

clenched his fist and teeth just thinking about it.

He was startled when Amber holds his hands.

“Hon, are you okay?” She asked, worried is all over her eyes. Hon. It was the first time, Amber called

Amber sighed and slightly shook her head. “I’ll be at the garden if you need me.” She said and give him

a peck on the cheeks before grabbing the book on the center table.
