The baby contract

Chapter 47

Chapter 47

She looked over to Liam and saw that his jaw was clenched, a bad sign which meant he wasn't happy with the intruder who had to disturb them when they were having a nice time together.

He mouthed to her " Who is it? "

She shrugged and whispered " I have no idea "

Her mouth hung open slightly in surprise when she checked the caller ID and saw who it was. She glanced at Liam who was looking at her expectantly.

" Your mom " She answered his silent question.

He frowned " Mom? Why on earth is she calling you? Doesn't she have anything better to do with her free time? "

" Hush Liam, she's calling me, not you " Carla scolded him in a light tone.

" And you, are my wife so I have every right to be pissed off " He defended himself.

She rolled her eyes " We shall see about that, now let's hear what she has to say, hmmn? "

He said quickly " No Carla wait, don't you pick up the call... " But Carla cut his sentence short by doing just that. She pressed the receiver button and looked up at Liam, sticking out her tongue in a rather cute way.

" Hi Diana " She greeted politely. NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.

" Hi darling! How are you doing? " Diana's voice sounded warm and welcoming.

" I'm fine, how about you? " Carla asked in the same polite tone.

" I'm pretty good, how is your husband? " Diana asked the normal routine question but Carla blushed furiously at the mention of her husband. Her husband, it felt good and she liked it.

Liam didn't hear his mother's side of conversation but from Carla's expression, he could guess his mother had just talked about him or probably made a vulgar comment about him to Carla. He wouldn't put it past his mother to embarrass his poor wife.

" Uh... He's fine, he's here too " She said and forced a little cough up her throat.

" Oh really? Are you guys good? " Diana asked, not realizing the question seemed too private to her even though it sounded like a normal question.

She laughed nervously and spared Liam a quick glance to see he was already looking at her " Yeah... Yeah we're good, right Liam? " She stared at him longer than this time. He frowned, obviously not following her line of conversation so he didn't know what she was asking him about.

" What? " He asked with a raised eyebrow.

She rolled her eyes at him and her face quickly dissolved into a smile at what Diana said.

" Sorry Diana, I didn't catch that " She said apologetically, but not without adding a sweet smile.

" I asked if you would like to join me for a night out in a nice restaurant? " Diana repeated the question she asked earlier.

" Yes, yes I would like that " She answered, her face beaming with a huge smile.

" Like what? " Liam asked from behind her.

She threw him a glare and mouthed " Shut up " and he went quiet immediately, with a grunt.

" Great! " Diana whooshed " Where should we meet?! Oh God, I can't wait for this! " Even Carla could feel her barely controlled excitement.

" Lira's " The name of the popularly known restaurant came to her lips immediately and she was grateful she said it.

" Great! Now let's pick a date! " Diana exclaimed excitedly.

" You pick " Carla said, laughing.

Diana immediately refused with an excited laugh too " No, you do "

" No, you pick " Carla insisted, enjoying every bit of the conversation she was having with Diana.

" For the last time Mrs Blake, you pick " Diana stood her ground.

Liam continued to stare at his wife like she had gone crazy within just the short period of speaking to his mother. Well, what's with women and drawing attention? He asked himself. Nevertheless, he was glad Carla got along pretty well with his mother, it meant a lot to him.

" Okay fine, " Carla finally relented " What about tomorrow night? "

Liam who was busy with his phone looked up at that. He stared at Carla with suspicion and a bit of curiosity too.

" Yay! Tomorrow's eve is great! " Diana yelled so loud into the speaker that Carla put the phone a little bit away from her ear to avoid a sore one the next morning.

" Okay, so we'll see tomorrow, huh? " Carla asked with a huge grin.

" Of course! I have to go pick out a suitable dress now, bye! " Diana said, elated by the date and hung up.

" Bye " Carla replied softly but it was too late because Diana hung up before her.

She put the phone back in her bag, a tender smile on her face.

" I guess you get along well with my mother, huh? " Liam commented dryly from beside her and she nodded without looking at him.

" Yeah I do, and I'm happy about it " She replied.

Liam smiled, glad that his feeling about the relationship between his mother and Carla was positive. Right then, he remembered some parts of the conversation they had, at least the one he heard and frowned, his expression becoming suspicious.

" So what did you talk about with her? " He asked with interest.

She shrugged nonchalantly " Just some lady's talk, you aren't a lady, are you now? "

He scoffed " Of course I'm not, all the more reason for me to want to know what you guys talked about "

" I told you, just some ladies conversation, that's all " She eyed him from beneath her long lashes.

He held his hands up in surrender, knowing she was stubborn and wouldn't give in " Okay fine, but I heard you talk about some dinner party or something, you must explain what that's about "

" Okay, I'll explain and Liam? It's a dinner, not a dinner party and we're having a girls night out tomorrow to catch fun " She explained excitedly.

" And where exactly is that happening? " He asked with suspicion.
