The Alpha’s Little Luna

Not His Mistress

Beta Jace’s POV

“Kenry, didn’t you think the behavior of that she-wolf and Alpha was strange when we were in human town?” Elise, Alpha Zane’s sister, asks the Gamma annoyed. “He was so rude to us while we had been helping his pack member. I didn’t get the impression that they were fated mates, maybe she’s just his mistress.”

Elise clearly feels shortchanged by what happened last week in human town when she came from a business trip with our Gamma. This is the second time I heard her mentioning this case. I have shown no interest in it before, my head is with my mate and besides that, I have a lot of work at hand now that Zane has extended his stays in Silver Moon. Every year he commemorates grandly the day he first met his little Luna. But the most striking thing is that Mercedes has been more affectionate in recent weeks. She keeps her mate with her longer than before when she can’t be in our pack. The two are really inseparable.

Whenever I see them together or when Zane speaks to me on the phone and I notice how happy they genuinely are, I feel a pain in my chest. My mate and I could have had this too, if she just had a little faith in me that I would do anything to make her happy. She didn’t tell me why she wanted to reject me and now I’m groping in the dark about her departure. Saphira never spoke up, she just evaporated into nothingness. I can’t find her anywhere.

So, that’s why I paid little attention to Elise’s grievances. But now I’m in the entertainment room with them, standing up and walking away bluntly would be rude.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Aaahh, Elise, this Alpha’s son is always arrogant. I’m waiting for the day when Mercedes finally joins our pack and we get rid of Silver Moon. I want a war with them so badly that it almost hurts, I do special training with our warriors focused on a war with them”, Kenry reacts doggedly, his eyes red with annoyance. His hatred for that pack is well known, which is why Zane avoids involving him in matters involving Silver Moon.

“And watch him try to steal Mercedes from Zane. What a bastard! If the she-wolf didn’t need help, I would have just walked past him and ignored him on the spot. He’s not worthy of our attention,” he states, gritting his teeth.

“Elise, why don’t you let go of this case? You get annoyed every time you talk about it. Move on. You will probably never see him again”, I interfere with the conversation. “Just a few more months and we’ll have our Luna here forever and have nothing to do with Silver Moon anymore. Mercedes’s dad also retires from his Beta position when Glary takes over, so her parents can visit her here to their heart’s content or even move to our pack”.

This is all it takes to boost Elise’s mood.

Mercedes is her best friend, she takes care of our Luna like a mother hen. In her eyes, our Luna is perfect and can do no harm. And some have experienced that the hard way. When Jasmina dared challenge the Luna for her position and Zane prevented it, Elise finished the job afterward. After everything had cooled down, she went back to Jasmina to fight in Mercedes’ place. And believe me, the pack doctor had a hell of a job patching up Jasmina, she didn’t stand a chance against the Alpha force in Elise.

For all of us in the pack, Mercedes is the absolute queen. She makes our Alpha happy, gives her all in the Luna training sessions because she wants to do a good job and make Zane proud of her. That’s all we need in Midnight Moon. In return, we swore to protect and defend her with our lives. My pack is happy.

But I can’t say that about myself.

There is a vast emptiness in me, a hole, it is as if part of my being has died. Every night my wolf howls in intense pain for losing his mate. He calls her back, pouring out his heart for Saphira. But it’s been two weeks and there’s no sign of her. There isn’t a place in a six-mile radius that I haven’t searched for her. I only want to meet her once more, to tell her how much I love her and vow to make her my queen.

But I know she will have to come back one day. We’ve already started the mating process, her wolf and the mine already have a connection. Like me, she will also weaken but much faster because she is a she-wolf with no rank. As a Beta, I can still hold my own, although I’ll have to go to the pack healer soon for an energy booster.

“It cannot be otherwise than that she is his mistress. Why would two pack members maintain an apartment in Human Town? There was never an announcement about Alpha Glary finding his mate,” muses Elise. And now she has my full attention. Saphira told me that Jasmina is the fated of Glary and she was here to persuade her to come to Silver Moon to take her rightful position. Does Glary have a mistress while he makes no effort to meet Jasmina?

This is unacceptable, Midnight Moon will not tolerate one of our she-wolves being humiliated and rejected. The Alpha has a lot of explanations to do. Maybe Kenry will have his wish out soon.

“Now tell me honestly. Alpha Glary was in Human Town with a she-wolf he was intimate with?” I asked tightly, containing my anger. “Jasmina is his fated mate but he hasn’t been here to claim her. It was my mate who came here to get Jasmina. In retrospect, I’m happy about that, otherwise I would never have met her. But Alpha Glary won’t humiliate Jasmina. Damn not! I kill him with my own hands”.

“What!!” Elise and Kenry yell out simultaneously.

” Jasmina didn’t say anything about it. And why isn’t your mate here?” asks Kenry. His eyes narrowed, his face twisted thoughtfully. “There was something strange about the she-wolf, I couldn’t place it. It was like she wasn’t a stranger, yet an Alpha from another pack came to get her,” he explains more to himself.

My body tightens, my thoughts are not straight anymore.

And then his eyes fixed on me.

“He called that she-wolf Saphira”.

I stare at him wide-eyed, slowly the puzzle falls together.

“What did you say?!” I exclaim, happy and frightened in the mix. Elise stares at him too, not really knowing where this all goes.

“The she-wolf was not his mistress. I couldn’t find his scent on her. Only yours, Jace. When I saw her, I couldn’t place it at first, but now I know,” he continues.

“She was weak and passed out in front of her apartment, where we found her. But Glary took her, God knows where,” explains Kenry. He hasn’t finished speaking yet when I run out of the entertainment room. In the parking lot, Kenry yells at me to take the passenger seat. Elise follows us in another vehicle. The engine of my powerful Bentley Bentayga roars in delight as we hit the highway to Human Town.

Moon Goddess, please. Keep my mate safe.

And let her wait for me to heal her. Please…
