My heart raced as I walked into my office, followed by Maya. I had not seen her since that time with Harry. Asking her to come to my office had been a spur of the moment decision I had taken because I couldn’t bear to see her with that guy. Maya closed the door behind her and turned to me and our eyes met. Her gaze was cold.

“Hello, Maya.” I said, smiling a little, hoping that would put her at ease.

“Good evening, Mr. Carrington.” She said, coolly. The message behind that was clear. She wanted to keep things professional. But, it was too late and she was my destined mate. I had a few minutes to change that.

“Please have a seat,” I told her. She sat and I walked around the table to my seat.

“I just wanted to apologize for what happened,” I said, looking down at her hands. “I couldn’t be with you after what happened. There were somethings I needed to take care of back at home. I think I handled everything wrong and I’m sorry for hurting you.”

She looked at me for some seconds, as if weighing the words in her mind. “There’s nothing to be sorry about. We are adults. We had a good time together and when it was over, we went our own ways. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

“There is something I need to tell you,” I said. It was now or ever. i had to lay the cards in front of her so she could make a decision. I knew it was a bold move to confess my feelings but I couldn’t help myself anymore. Just having her near me was driving my wolf crazy and it was threatening to show itself. “The truth is, Maya, I love you. I have loved you for a while now and I can’t keep it inside any longer. It’s driving me crazy. I know this may sound surprising to you but I just had to tell you how I feel.”

Her lips parted in shock, but she quickly composed herself. The coldness in her eyes seemed to be vanishing.

“I find this hard to believe,” she said. “Are you saying this just to play with my mind?”

I had expected she would say that.

“I had feelings for you even before we slept together. Unfortunately, I had to return and carry out some important duties with my other companies. When I returned and found out you were suspended, I was so concerned. I went to your residence and when I didn’t find you, I returned to the office and asked for your whereabouts. It was why I followed you to that resort. I needed to confess my feelings but unfortunately, I found you with Smith. When I saw you going to him today, I couldn’t bear it.”

She was quiet for a while.

“So, if this is true, you made me come here because you were jealous?”

“I know,” I said. “It’s despicable. I used my power to separate you two. I just needed to let you know what’s going on in my heart.”

Maya sighed. “I don’t know what to say after hearing this.”

“I know that this is very sudden and you will need time to think about it. I will not push you to anything you’re not comfortable with. I’ll be here whenever you’re ready. You are excused.”Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Maya nodded before standing up. She left the room, leaving me feeling a bit disappointed. I was a mess of emotions and it was annoying me. Before the mate bond, I had never felt that strongly about any woman. I was not liking it.

Sighing, I rose from the chair, picked up my phone and headed to the door. Just as I was reaching out for it, it opened on its own and Maya entered.

“Maya.”

“I have feelings for you too,” she blurted out. “I just don’t think it’s appropriate since you’re my boss. It could create a conflict of interest and mess things up. That suspension taught me that my career is the only good thing I have in my life and I can’t afford to lose it.”

“Maya, let me the other good thing in your life,” I told her.

“Feelings can change any time,” she said. “What will happen when you stop loving me? We can’t do this.”

I steeped closer to her. Drawn to her, I leaned in. I brushed my lips against hers, and she responded despite herself. It felt better than the first time we had kissed. Now that I knew she had feelings for me, I was feeling more secure therefore able to lose myself in the kiss. Our lips moved in sync as her soft, dainty hands caressed the back of my head. My wolf was excited and I could feel the heat in my body rising, making me feel all kinds of sweet sensations.

We were both breathless by the time we pulled apart.

“I missed you,” I said, holding her close.

“I missed you too,” she said, smiling at me with her beautiful sweet face. I glanced at those lips and realised I needed more taste. It was tempting but I realised I needed to do things right. She may have been my mate but she needed to be treated like the amazing lady she was.

“I’d like to take you for dinner tomorrow,” I said, staring at the spectacular woman before me. “Would that work for you, miss Bennett.”

Maya smiled. “I’ll have to clear out my schedule.”

“Okay,” I said.

“Kidding,” she said. “I had nothing planned for tomorrow. So, is this the end of the night? You make me all hot and bothered then let me go?”

I raised a brow, liking where the conversation was going. “You’re a lady, Miss Bennett. You deserve to be treated like one. Maybe tomorrow’s dinner will have a happy ending.”

Maya chuckled and stepped back. “There’s no use pretending. You’ve sampled the goods already.” She ripped open the front zip of her dress. “Do you want this or not?”

One glance at those boobs and my self-control was out of the window.

“You don’t have to ask me twice.”
