Tangled Temptations

Chapter 15

The restaurant clocked out at ten in the evening.

Eloise stepped out into moderate rain. Raindrops descended onto the grey road, illuminating the reflected lamplights into a radiant display.

Eloise didn't have an umbrella, so she used her handbag as a shield, scampering two hundred meters to take shelter at a bus stop. Her clothes were soaking wet, and she shivered as she fumbled with her phone to call a cab. Getting a taxi in this weather was a tough sell. Eloise waited forever, but no cab showed up.

Across the street, at the bus stop, a golden Bentley was parked by the roadside. Harvey sat in the car, watching Eloise in silence. He watched her running in the rain, her clothes drenched. Her whole body was shivering from the cold.

Orlena was in the passenger seat. She'd been fiddling with her phone for an hour, yawning out of boredom. "Harvey, didn't you say you were taking me for a midnight snack? You've been picky for an hour but still can't decide where to go. Hey, isn't that Landon's girlfriend?"

Harvey lazily ran his fingers over the steering wheel, asking, "Landon's girlfriend?"

Orlena pointed out the window. "That really pretty girl! Can we give her a lift?" Harvey hesitated for a bit. "Isn't it quite off to give Landon's girlfriend a ride?" "She finally hailed a cab!" Orlena suddenly said with a hint of regret.

Harvey looked over, and sure enough, a blue cab made a U-turn and drove past his car.

Orlena called Landon, "Landon, do you not take care of your girlfriend? I just saw Eloise. It's so late, why didn't you pick her up?"

...

Landon responded casually, "Ah... I guess I'm not a good boyfriend after all!"

Hearing that, Harvey smirked. Landon sure had a lot of nerve!

Orlena chatted with Landon a bit more before hanging up. She snuggled up to Harvey, acting cute. "Can we hire Eloise to play the piano at my birthday party? She's having financial difficulties. I can pay her a bit more."

Harvey started the car, replying nonchalantly, "She might not be up for it." Orlena didn't believe him. After a while, she suddenly remembered. "Harvey, weren't you taking me for a midnight snack? Why are we heading home?"

Harvey lit a cigarette, glanced at his sister. "Aren't you on a diet? Are you still thinking about a midnight snack?"

Orlena was immediately convinced. She took out her phone and started chatting with Max, saying since she couldn't fill her stomach, and she might as well chat up her boyfriend for some dopamine...

The next afternoon, Harvey went back to the mansion to grab some documents. As he descended the stairs, he heard Orlena complaining, "Harvey, Ms. Laurent really turned me down! How weird, why doesn't she want to make money!"

Harvey, dressed in a suit, was in a rush for a meeting. Hearing Orlena's complaints, he lightly tapped her head with the documents, grunting, "If she agreed, her brain would be as messed up as yours."

Orlena pretended to be angry, whining, "Mom, look at him, always picking on me!"

Pauline sat in the living room, leisurely sipping her coffee. She laughed and said, "I thought Ms. Laurent was quite nice when I met her last time, I didn't expect her to be Landon's girlfriend!"

Harvey didn't bother to clear the misunderstanding. He smiled and said, "Landon is just pursuing her."

Pauline set down her bone china coffee cup, then casually said, "Ms. Laurent is very gentle. I think she's more suited for you."

Harvey hid his emotions, nodded, and left.

Watching her brother leave, Orlena leaned in close to Pauline, cautiously saying, "He seems to still be waiting... for that person!"

Pauline smiled faintly. She said, "Considering your brother's and that person's characters, it's destined they can't be together. I think Ms. Laurent has a higher chance."

Hearing this, Orlena was very surprised, then she plucked up her courage. Her mind was simple, already formulating a plan in her head.noveldrama
