Chapter 71
Chapter 71
There were toy cars, cradles, cribs, toys, rag dolls, Lego blocks, diapers…If it wasn’t for the car being too small, Hawley would’ve hauled the whole baby store over here!
“Only got these for now,” Hawley said, “We can start decking out the kid’s room. I’ve bought things for both genders as we don’t yet know whether it’s a boy or a girl.”
Letitia was guilty as she looked at the cute little dresses and pricey toys.
If only the baby in her belly was Elgin’s… That would’ve been just perfect.
But that thought flickered through her mind for only a brief moment. Because she could feel Elgin next to her was downright scary!
Letitia sneaked a peek at his face.
Elgin had his brows knitted together. “No need, Grandpa”
The servants froze in their carry.
“How can we not need them? We’ll have to buy them sooner or later, Hawley insisted. “I’m free as a bird anyways, might as well keep busy.
He grabbed his cane and went off to supervise the setting up of the kid’s room.
Phedra didn’t follow, her eyes brimming with envy and confusion.
“It’s just having a kid, what’s the big deal?” Phedra scoffed with disdain, even giving the crib a spiteful kick, “Whether it’s a great-grandson of the Ramirez family or not is still up in the air!”
She couldn’t believe that Elgin who took the drugged soup she sent every day would be a father-to-be!
There had to be something fishy!
“Are you jealous? Elgin stepped up to her, oozing intimidation, “Phedra, in this lifetime, you and your blockhead son won’t stir up a ripple in the Ramirez family.”
“You why bring this up out of the blue?”
“Just a friendly reminder. Take good care of Grandpa and be the dutiful Mrs. Ramirez before I decide to revenge against you.”
Phedra felt a shiver down her spine at his dark gaze.
Could he have found out about the contraceptive she’d been slipping into the soup?
The thought had barely crossed her mind when she heard Elgin say, “You’re right to think so.”
Phedras heart skipped a beat. Elgin was so sharp and had already figured it out!
“Yes. Since the cat was out of the bag, Phedra dropped all pretenses; she and Elgin had always been at loggerheads anyway. “I’ve been scheming to drug you for so long, how could Letitia possibly get pregnant?”
“You think I can’t counteract your poisons? Elgin retorted.
Phedra had a lightbulb moment, “You were cured a long time ago!”
“Even if I weren’t cured, I’m not absolutely sterile, Elgin responded, “I have a low sperm count, not zero.”
Phedra clenched her teeth in frustration. Her seamless plan had come undone!
All because of Letitia! This woman must have a knack for getting pregnant, managing to do so even with Elgin’s illness!
“By the way. Elgin said with a cold smirk, “Ill repay what you did to me a thousandfold to your son!”
Phedra’s son was her soft spot. She immediately got furious and explained, “This is all me and has nothing to do with my son! Hes been overseas all this time and never meddles in Ramirez Group affairs!”
*Neither of you will escape.” Elgin was confident and arrogant in tone
Anyone else would ve bitten the dust by now under his wrath, but he’d held back for Grandpa’s sake.
Elgin turned away, and Letitia followed suit.
She was far enough not to catch the whole conversation, only picking up something about a “son”. And she was intrigued by Phedra’s
son too!
Perhaps, the truth about Marcel’s death could be uncovered through him!
Elgin, Letitia ventured, ‘so, you have a half-brother?”
in just asking”
It’s none of your business, he snapped, not in the mood to discuss it.
Letitia wanted to press on, but one look from Elgin ceased her words.
Patience is key to the truth. A watched pot never boils.
If Elgin found out she was digging for the truth, that would spell disaster NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
After breakfast, Letitia headed to the office
Stepping into the Jewelry Department, she saw someone sitting at her desk, with her colleagues staying well away.
It was Shela, who was sitting there, legs crossed, casually rifling through Letitia’s workspace. Letitia’s design sketches were scattered and stepped on
“What are you doing!” Letitia snatched a folder from her hands, “Don’t you know how to be polite and not to mess with other people’s stuff?”
Shela shot back, ‘Which of these things are yours? The computer, the chair they all belong to Ramirez Group
Letitia couldn’t be bothered with her, “Leave now, or I’m calling security”
“I’m not here to make trouble but to chat Who dares to kick me out?”
I have nothing to chat with you about.”
Shela chuckled, “About the wedding ring. That’s something I own. It’s been a while, so I came to check up on how you’re doing with the design.
“So it’s about the ring Letitia laughed. “It’s all done.”
She pulled out the design from the bottom drawer and tossed it nonchalantly onto Shela, Take a look. But can you even understand it?” Shela who never went to college wasn’t the brightest bulb. She was a
bit of a wild child at school, getting mixed up in all sorts of mischief, with a laundry list of scandalous tales to her name Still, Elgin was so head over heels for her that he chose to overlook these shortcomings
“I can’t understand a single drawing?” Shela glanced over it, “It’s okay, but there are details I’m not happy with.”
“It’s all been revised according to your feedback
Letitia didn’t even bother to tap into her own creative juices. After all, it just needed to be flashy, extravagant, and pricey.
For the whole morning, Letitia was stuck revising the ring design for Shela.
Letitia had no choice but to follow Elgin’s decree.
Vidonia was on standby, eyeing the office door now and then, ready to protect Letitia
If Shela stepped out of line, she’d rush in for a brawl!
Shela’s been to the Ramirez Group a couple of times and got the short end of the stick, so she’s wised up. Plus, Elgin’s been giving her the cold shoulder lately, so she wasn’t bold enough to make trouble
“Alright,” she finally compromised when lunch break was almost over, “we’ll settle on that. The actual piece should be 100% reproduced for the design, or you’ll hear from me!”
The wedding ring, once it’s done, will go straight to Elgin Ramirez, Letitia replied. “Not to you, Ms Ward
“You…”
But Letitia was already out the door.
“I want you to be a supervisor in person!” Shela called after her. “Keep an eagle eye on the ring-making process, watch it take shape bit by bit! And now, show Mr. Ramirez the design, will ya?”
