Sweet Revenge: Jace & Emerald

Chapter 31

“You should have not talked to her!” Jace shouted.

“I just want to help you,” Jack replied calmly. He knew that by talking to Emerald, his little brother would get mad at him. He informed him about it beforehand, but Jace told him not to. He didn’t want his wife to think he was trying to gain support from other people.

“You don’t understand. I wanted to tell her everything myself. I want to apologize to her personally, and I want her to see my sincerity as much as possible.” Jace replied, “Still, what did she say? How did she react?”

“Nothing. She asks me if I expect to forgive just because I told her everything.”

“And what did you reply?”

“I said no. She can take her revenge and make things hard for you since you deserve it for being an idiot for not doing a proper investigation before you execute your plan and meddling with my own business.” Jace’s eyes widened because he couldn’t see anything that showed his brother had helped him.

“What the” he said, making Jack laugh because of how his little brother looked.

“Stop teasing him, love,” Eunice said.

“Listen to your wife,” Jessica replied before she looked at her youngest son and said, “Since you and Emerald were working together, see to it that you will win her back. She looks nice and very beautiful. I already imagine what your future kids will look like.” The Higginson matriarch added dreamily, “I wish you had a kid with her so she will have no choice but to return to you for the sake of your kids.”

“Mom!” Jace exclaimed. “It doesn’t sound good.”

“I know, but what else can I do? I like her. I wish she was the mother of the boy we saw in the amusement park.” Jessica replied, silencing her youngest son.

“What is it, Jace?” Jack asked curiously. “Don’t tell me you’re thinking the same thing? I saw his father and could tell they loved each other. So you better stop thinking whatever that’s in your mind.” The eldest Higginson warned him because he didn’t want to see his younger brother getting hurt again.

Jessica, who had the thought, suddenly looked at Jace. “I’m sorry, son. It’s just a slip of the tongue, feeling frustrated from wanting to have your wife back.”

“Jace, we won’t meddle with your personal life. But remember that we are here if you ever need anything. Do what you think is right to win your wife back, and we’re here to support you.” Nick, who was just listening to them, said.

“Thank you, Dad.” Young Higginson replied.

“So, you’re saying that Jace mistook you for someone else?” Creep asked, and Emerald nodded after she told her friends what Jack had told her. They were in her office in ACEGame. She went there to check on something before she reported to SoftWare Group.

“And Jack also told you that he has a friend who was also looking for a woman, and you’re his only lead. That’s why he wrote your name on paper, making Jace assume you’re the Emerald who dumped his brother”. It was Daryl, and again, Emerald nodded.

“Who’s looking after who?” Elise asked, confused. “I mean, who is Jack’s friend looking for? Do you have any idea?” she added.

“I had no idea. I told him that as well. I never left the mansion; if I do, I don’t talk to anyone. I was worried that people would only bully me and think that I am ugly, just like what Emerose told me.” Emerald replied, “I’m going to ask him about his friend when we see each other again.” she added.

“You’re planning to see him again?” Elise asked, teasing.

“Stop it. We already met, and with the flow of our conversation, I think he’s a nice guy. Another thing is, he’s married.”

“I am not saying that you like him. What I’m trying to imply is that”

“I know what you’re trying to say. It’s not as though they lived together. Jace has his own house, and so does Jack. So there’s no way I will meet Jace if we decide to meet again.”

“If you say so,” Elise replied, wiggling her brows with a mischievous smile. Emerald shook her head because she knew how her friend teased her.

“Since I’m done here, I need to go to SoftWare Group if I don’t want Jace to say anything against me and our company.” Young Morgan got up and left. She trusted her friends to look after their business, and she was confident that they would not slack off even if she was in Jace’s company.

“Good morning, Ma’am Emerald.” one of the illustrators greeted her. She had just entered her office in the Software Group and was ready to work.

“Hi, is there anything you need?” Young Morgan asked, smiling.

“Here’s the final draft for the heroes and heroines. I want you to see it before I submit it to Sir Jace.”

“Okay, I will get back to you once I’ve checked this.” She took the folder before the woman left her office.

Emerald sat in her chair and started to look into the designs. Her lips curled into a smile when she saw how beautiful the drafts were. She was satisfied and felt relieved that after so many weeks, they had already finalized them.

She turned on her computer and started coding. After reading the project’s storyline, Emerald was inspired to do it. She knew instantly that gamers would definitely like it. She was engrossed with her work when her phone rang. “Hello, Keng,” she said, thinking it was her son’s nanny.

“Mommy,” the boy replied.

“Why are you holding your nanny’s phone?” she asked.

“I accidentally slipped my phone in the toilet bowl, and it won’t open.” the boy answered hesitantly. “I’m afraid you’d get mad at me since I didn’t take care of the things you gave me, so I asked Nanny Keng if I could borrow her phone and call you.”

“How did it happen?” Emerald asked again. Although disappointed, she didn’t want to overreact and scare her son.

“I accidentally ran into something on my phone, and I couldn’t get my eyes off it, so when I felt the call of nature, I brought it to the restroom.”

“What do you mean you ran into something on your phone?” Emerald asked curiously. “Are you by any chance looking into some inappropriate videos or games unsuitable for kids?” young Morgan asked with a hint of strictness.

“No!” the boy exclaimed, “It’s nothing like that.”

“Then what is it?”

“I accidentally pressed something, and then numbers appeared, and I kinda liked it.” Emerald sighs in relief. Sometimes, her son does something to his phone or tablet and sometimes to his computer, and it’s all about coding.

“So. your phone doesn’t open now?” she asked.

“Yes, mommy.” the boy answered.

“It’s okay; I will look into it and try to fix it. For now, don’t do anything and just let it dry.”

“Okay, Mom. I’m sorry for my recklessness.”

“It’s alright, baby,” Emerald replied exactly when she looked up and found Jace on her office door. His face was dim and hardened. “Uhm, I’m going to be very busy, so I will call you later, okay?” she said, not leaving her eyes on her husband.

“Okay, Mom. I love you.” Ace replied,

“I love you too, baby,” Emerald replied before she ended their call and put her cell phone in her pocket.

“Baby?” Jace asked, “I don’t remember you calling me with endearment before.”

“Why would I call you with endearment?” Emerald asked, raising a brow.

“Didn’t you say you love me?” Jace asked as he walked closer. Emerald’s heart beat faster, and she didn’t know how she would be able to control it. Then she remembered what Jack told him about Jace loving him and how hard it was for him when she was gone. “You said you love me then, but you never called me baby or sweetheart or anything,” he added.

“Why are you here?” Emerald asked instead. She didn’t want to answer him since she only wanted to call him by name. And that has never changed until now.

“Is it that bastard?” Jace continued, and his question hurt her. She wanted to say yes because he had thrown her away, making her give birth to their son and grow up without his father. But she held on to her emotions. She didn’t want to reveal to her husband about Ace yet.

“It’s none of your business. If you have any concerns regarding the project, you can say so. If there’s nothing, leave.”

“We are still married, Emerald. You are still my wife, and I am your husband. I will not let you continue your relationship with whoever that man is. And this is going to be my last warning to you. The next time I hear you call him or get intimate with him, I am going to do everything to destroy him.” Jace said angrily.

“You have no control over my personal life, Mr. Higginson. Whatever I do outside your company is none of your damn business. I didn’t agree with this project, so you could look after my love life.” Emerald replied, which angered Jace even more. “Since we are still married because you didn’t file our divorce, let me tell you this: our divorce paper will be waiting for you at your office tomorrow morning. So, make sure that you sign them. I’m sure it will be easy for you since I won’t be able to get anything”, she added. “If you’ll excuse me, I still need to do my job. If there’s nothing else you need, you can leave.”NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
