Chad was silent for a moment before saying, “Could you go to the hospital after class? Mom’s not

feeling well, and she’s in the hospital. I’m out and can’t make it.”

He didn’t say anything more before hanging up. Molly guessed that Chad didn’t want to alarm her,

She found the room and entered without knocking. Her mother was lying on the bed. Her father was

standing by the bed talking to the doctor, and one of her mother’s secretaries was also present.

Seeing Molly, the doctor asked, “And this is?”

Kendrick answered, “My daughter.”

Kendrick replied, “Don’t be scared, Molly. We haven’t done the tests yet. It might not be cancer. Maybe

your mom just fainted from exhaustion.”
