He tossed the remaining rice into the trash bin, and grabbed the glass of warm water on the table,
downing it in one gulp.
Ten minutes later, Mia received an empty lunchbox. She left with a satisfied smile.
Andre leaned back against his chair, touching his belly. Alice walked in, grinning. She knew everything.
“You’ve had it tough,” Alice teased.
Andre silently prayed that Mia would only visit once.
At four in the afternoon.
“Honey, what are you up to?” The office door was cracked open by a certain audacious individual. “I
know you’ve had a long day at work, honey. I made you some clam chowder. Try it.”
Andre was silent. He stood up, swiftly tidying up the documents on his desk. “Mia, I have a meeting to
attend. Take the chowder home for our dad to enjoy.”
“But dad already has some,” Mia argued. “Honey, eat before you go to your meeting.”
As Andre picked up his documents to leave, Mia opened the container. The chowder was brimming to
the top, threatening to spill over onto her hand. Andre could see the steam still rising from it.
Andre swallowed hard, concerned that his wife might burn herself. He bent over and placed the
container on his desk.
“Behave yourself, I’m off to a meeting.”
“Honey, just take a sip. I spent ages making it.”
Unable to resist his cute wife, Andre had no choice but to take a sip.
“Well.” Andre’s hand went to his throat as he eyed the strange soup. “Did you add butter?”
“Yes, honey. How does it taste?” Mia awaited his praise with eager eyes.
Andre complimented, “Delicious.”
Then, Andre quickly left the office. He called out to Noah, “Meeting.”
“Meeting?” Noah was confused.
Andre said, “An impromptu meeting. The topic: departmental reports.”
Noah was clueless about what was going on, as were the heads of other departments. Were there big
changes in the company?
While the meeting was underway, Andre texted Alice, “Go to my office and usher Mia home.”
Alice found the CEO’s “cry for help” message quite amusing.
Half an hour later, Alice replied to Andre, “The wife has left.”
In the conference room, Andre suddenly announced, “Meeting dismissed.”
Everyone was speechless. The boss’ heart was so unpredictable.
Not long after Andre returned to his office, Alice appeared with a smile. “Boss, I reckon the little madam
will be delivering her love-filled lunches to you for a few days. We might have to get used to her
presence in the office.”
Andre was well aware of this. He had already instructed the domestic staff at home to support Mia’s
culinary pursuits. He didn’t want to douse Mia’s enthusiastic flame.
“Get Noah in here.”
Noah entered shortly. “Boss, what’s going on today?”
Andre instructed, “Spread the word. The company may hold impromptu meetings at any time in the
near future. We will continue with today’s meeting next time. And you, if you see my wife, immediately
alert me to hold a meeting.”
Noah asked, “Are you having marriage troubles?” Why would he avoid his cute and soft little wife?
Didn’t Andre always adore his cute wife?
Andre admonished, “I’m about to become a father. What marriage troubles?”
Noah was taken aback, while Alice chuckled.
Eventually, Noah learned from Alice why the boss was avoiding his wife. “Love can be a burden too,”
Noah mused.

The next day, Mia returned.
“Boss, the southern suburbs project is nearing completion. We need you on site for final inspection.”
Alice, Andre’s savior, suddenly appeared.
Mia had just set down the lunch box. “Honey, eat first. You can work after you’ve had enough. Don’t
wear yourself out.”
Alice stifled a laugh.
Soon after, Noah, the second savior, knocked on the door. “The department managers are waiting for
you. The meeting starts in 5 minutes.”
Mia frowned. “Why is there so much going on?”
Andre made a clever arrangement. “The meeting is urgent, so it takes priority in the morning. The
project inspection can be pushed to the afternoon.”
This way, he would be busy and away from the office all day.
Mia looped her arms around her husband’s, leaning against him. “Honey, eat first.”
Andre said, “There’s no time. I’ll just have a taste.”
Today’s dish was pizza. Andre took a bite, keeping his face neutral. “Not bad.”
He complimented before hurriedly leaving.
Alice was genuinely curious. “Madam, may I have a taste?”
Mia generously shared a slice with her. “Try it.”
Alice took a bite and was shocked. “Did you put Sriracha on this?”
Mia smiled and nodded. “Yes, it’s called fusion cuisine. My own creation.”
Alice thought, “For a moment, I understood the boss’ plight.”
After sending off his young wife, Andre returned to his office with a headache. Alice suggested, “Boss,
why don’t you go overseas for a few days?”
The little madam was really hard to deal with. Her dishes were practically from the dark side of the
cooking world.
Noah said, “Hiding all the time isn’t a solution.”
He turned to Alice. “Is the lady’s cooking really that bad?”
Noah replied, “I’m just curious, doesn’t she taste it herself?”
Andre, who knew his wife well, explained, “She can’t bear to taste it. She loves me, so she insists I
should have the first bite.”

Andre somewhat regretted encouraging her to experiment with cooking.
In the evening, he returned home. The household was somewhat fearful of him, so none dared to

Andre took a deep breath, finishing the glass of water on the table. “I’ll handle it.”
That evening, Andre called his wife into his study.
“Molly hasn’t been home for a few days, and Leo’s been leaving early and coming home late. Do you
have any idea what they are up to?”
Mia said, “Isn’t Molly working at her company? And didn’t you send Leo off to karate classes?”
Andre suddenly realized he just asked the obvious.
“You guys haven’t hung out together for a while. Don’t you plan on catching up?”
