Chapter 145
Chapter 145
That stab has practically pierced half of his heart from the back. Dwayne is right. An ordinary surgeon probably wouldn't even dare to pull out the dagger and could only watch him die.
Bailey hissed as her bony fingers pressed around his wound. “We can't pull out this dagger, at least not here. If we want him to live, we must perform surgery on him, first to cut him open, stitch up the heart before pulling out the dagger.”
Upon hearing that, Dwayne questioned in a deep voice, “But can he survive until we return to the city? The blood is flowing non-stop. I'm worried that he will die of shock due to excessive blood loss on the way.”
Bailey did not answer him, merely shoving a blood-stained palm into her pocket before taking out a medicine bottle.
She had been operating on animals for the past few days and had taken to carrying a hemostatic medicine around with her, which would help to resolve her current crisis.
“This is a hemostatic medicine I developed myself. It is several times better than the ones on the market. It should be able to stop his bleeding. You should quickly contact a helicopter and get them to come over. Let's go to Justin's medical base.”
With that, she unscrewed the cap and began to pour the medicine on Artemis' wound.
Dwayne slapped his forehead. “Oh, right! Why didn't I think of calling a helicopter here? A car ride is bumpy, but a helicopter ride is not bumpy at all! Okay, leave it to me.”
Bailey's medicine was indeed effective, for the wound stopped bleeding after a while.
Artemis forced himself to stay strong and did not let himself pass out. He said in a hoarse voice, “Operate on me when we get back.”
Bailey pursed her lips, and when she looked at him, she appeared conflicted.
She had a feeling that something was off, but she could not pinpoint what exactly it was.
“Let Justin take a look first. If he can operate on you, then let him do it. I can't treat your life lightly. You should know that despite locking myself in the laboratory for the past six days, I didn't make any progress or breakthroughs at all. I even became more reluctant to perform surgery. It's way too risky for me to perform a heart suture on you, and there are also many uncertainties.”
Artemis furrowed his brows and was about to say something to refute her, but Bailey did not let him speak and covered his mouth with her blood-stained palm.
“Don't speak. Your vocal cords are attached to your internal organs and will compress the wound on your heart.”
Artemis cocked a brow in response. Although his face was deathly pale, it could not hide his cold gaze. This woman is finally willing to get close to me. Although it's a heavy price to pay, it seems to be well worth it.
Bailey could feel a ticklish feeling on the palm of her hand, followed by a warm sensation, which made her frown. C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
This d*mned man! I can't believe he's licking my palm with the tip of his tongue. Very well. I now have a new understanding of him. Not only is he frisky, but he is also very good at flirting.
People often described Artemis, the man at the helm of Luther Group, as aloof, withdrawn, and mysterious. He was unapproachable and ranked in the top ten in the world in terms of danger rating.
However, after spending some time with him, other than experiencing his teasing, what impressed her most was that he was extremely good at flirting with women.
When she did not resist, Artemis was overjoyed.
Having her company in the future seems pretty good.
About ten minutes later, whirring noises came from overhead, and two helicopters flew toward them from the direction of the city.
“Later, when they bring the stretcher to lift him, try to be careful and not touch the dagger in his back,” Bailey instructed Ken.
“Understood.”
Upon returning to Justin's medical base, Bailey immediately instructed Ken to take Artemis to the operating room.
“Come with me to see Justin, Dwayne. I'll give him the treatment plan, and with his medical skills, there shouldn't be much of an issue in performing this surgery.”
“Uhh...” Dwayne had a hesitant look on his face. After a brief moment of contemplation, he said tentatively, “Justin went to Livingsfill, so he's not on the medical base. I'm afraid you'll have to perform this operation yourself, Ms. Jefferson.”
Bailey was taken aback by his reply. Her body tensed, and her expression turned extremely gloomy.
She stared at Dwayne for a few seconds before uttering in a sarcastic tone, “Oh, what a coincidence.”
After saying that, she stopped paying attention to him and headed toward the direction where Ken and the others had disappeared to catch up with them.
Dwayne stood still and sighed. It looks like Ms. Jefferson has discerned something. I hope she doesn't lose her cool now and walk away in a fit of rage. Otherwise, Mr. Luther's situation would be troublesome.
Bailey did not leave but ran all the way to the operating room.
She would be lying if she were to say that she had no intention of retreating as she stood at the entrance to the room. Looking at the two words in bold on the sign above her head, she began to tremble uncontrollably.
Zayron stepped forward and hugged his mother's thigh. Looking up at her, he choked out, “If you truly can't do it, Bailey, don't force yourself. Worse comes to worst, I'll repay him with my life.”
“Stop it,” Bailey growled softly. Then, she tilted her head to ask Ken, “Is everything ready for the surgery?”
Ken was visibly anxious as his forehead was covered with sweat. Hearing her question, he quickly replied, “Ready. Several of Mr. Xuereb's assistants are waiting inside. Hurry in, Ms. Jefferson. Mr. Luther was already unconscious when he was lifted off the helicopter, and now he's in a deep coma with unstable heart activity.”
Bailey closed her eyes, took several deep breaths, and exhaled heavily.
You can do this, Bailey.
She stood silently for a few seconds before opening her eyes. Then, she turned and entered the operating room.
After changing into a surgical gown and going to the disinfection area to disinfect herself, she slowly came to the operating table.
“Turn on the lights.”
With a few flicks of the switches, the overhead surgical lights all turned on, and white light shone down.
She felt dizzy for a moment, but she quickly composed herself and said to the assistant beside her, “Is the anesthesia ready?”
“It's ready.”
“Inject.”
“Got it.”
“Are the electrocardiogram and respiration rate graphs normal?”
“Normal at the moment.”
Bailey steadied herself as her gaze fell on the wound on Artemis' back. After studying it for a moment, she found the place to operate. “Number one surgical scalpel,” she called out.
The next moment, an assistant handed her the sterilized tool.
Bailey reached out to take it, and just as she grabbed the scalpel handle, her fingers trembled slightly.
The assistant felt it and asked hesitantly, “Mr. Derning told us to cooperate with you fully, saying that your surgical skills are superb. But now your hand holding the scalpel is shaking. Can you truly do such a high-level and precise cardiac wound repair surgery? Lying here is the head of the Luther family. If anything untoward happens to him, we're doomed.”
Bailey's lips twitched and curved into a bitter smile.
I was forced to do this. However, I can probably only overcome my psychological barriers under such immense pressure. If I don't save him, his heart will be completely congested and swollen within ten minutes, leading to heart failure.
