Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Veronique stood up from her chair, and shock flashed across her eyes.
Looking at Justin nervously, she asked in a quavering voice, “H-How do you know him? Why do you want to talk to him?”
At the same time, she was bewildered by Justin's request.
What a minute. Is it strange that I know Kai? Why can't I look for him?
“I heard Kai was in charge of Simon and Zayron's paternity test. Hence, I wish to have a video call with him to ask a few questions about the report. Is there a problem?”
Veronique took a few deep breaths to suppress her worry and uneasiness. Moments later, she pretended to be calm and said, “Nope. There's no problem at all. I'm just a little surprised that you know my nephew.”
With that, she sat down again.
Not in the mood to be bothered by her strange reaction, Justin asked, “Well, can I have a video call with him?”
“No,” Veronique quickly declined his request.
Justin narrowed his eyes and frowned. “Why?”
“He's overly aloof and doesn't like seeing strangers. It's why my sister let him stay at my place. Since I
live alone, the environment can help comfort him. I'm sorry that I can't help you.”
Meanwhile, Justin frowned deeper as he listened to her. After falling silent for a moment, he suggested, “Okay, we don't need to talk via video call. Please let me talk to him via phone call. I have to talk to him over an urgent matter.”
Nevertheless, Veronique still shook her head in response. Although her face turned paler, she bit her lip and refused to give in. “I'm so sorry, but I don't want any outsider to talk to him. Mr. Xuereb, please look for another way and stop intruding into Kai's life.”
With a serious look, Justin said, “You can't do this. The more aloof a kid is, the more you should encourage him to adapt to the environment. He can only come out of his own world when he feels the lively and bustling real world. You'll destroy him instead by locking him in the house.”
However, as Veronique's mind had gone blank, she didn't listen to his advice.
The next moment, she stood up, grabbed her handbag, and said, “Oh, I just remembered that I have to attend to some urgent matters and have to get going. Please excuse me.”
Before Justin could react, she ran toward the entrance and out of the premises as if she were escaping.
In confusion, Justin glanced at the empty seat in front of him for a while and turned his gaze to the half- closed door.
Can someone explain to me what had just happened?
After coming to his sense, Justin sent a text message to Dwayne.
Since you've found the young man's contact number, I'm sure you also have his address. Please send it to me now.
He could only put his mind at ease after he figured out the truth and confirmed that Simon was Zayron's biological father.
Two days later, a girl in a dress stealthily pushed the door of the lead designer's office and came in through the door gap.
Thinking that the lady was busy reading documents and didn't notice her, the girl bent down and inched forward.
Soon, she arrived at the curved desk.
Just as the girl wanted to spring upon the lady, she heard someone yell, and she jolted.
“Mommy, how can you always bully me?” Susan pointed at Bailey and patted her own chest.
Crossing her arms, Bailey stood up and glanced at Susan. Moments later, she chuckled and said, “Why don't you admit that you failed to prank me? I can't let you win just because I'm your mother.”
Well, she's indeed my biological mother!
Then, Bailey sat on her chair, raised her eyebrows as she looked at Susan, and said slowly, “Tell me
why you are here.”
Susan pursed her lips and made an indecent gesture.
The next moment, she put her hands on the desk and leaped onto it.
Bailey's lips twitched once she saw it.
In the eyes of others, Barbara was synonymous with a cute, quiet, and graceful princess. However, Bailey knew she didn't resemble a princess at all.
Why would others relate her to a princess or a demure girl?
“I'm here to endorse a product via advertisement and earn one hundred million with it. Mommy, since I can make a lot of money, you can retire early and stay home. Why do you want to work so hard and read this stuff?”
One hundred million?
Bailey looked at Susan in a daze.
Which advertisement is worth that much?
After a while, a thought flashed through her mind.
“Luther Group's new clothing brand prioritizes children's clothes. Did the marketing department ask you to be its brand's ambassador?”
Susan blinked her eyes mischievously and chuckled. “That's right! They're hiring Barbara.”
Upon hearing it, Bailey scoffed, “What a wrong choice!”
Susan was rendered speechless.
Moments later, she got down from the table, bowed at Bailey courteously, and said with a smile, “I shall not bother the lead designer, Ms. Jefferson, anymore. So long!”
Meanwhile, Bailey held her head as it started to hurt.
Bailey knew someone deliberately arranged for her to take over the new product launch, hoping to ruin her reputation forever.
Even though she wasn't afraid of any evil schemes, she wouldn't allow anyone to hurt her children. After all, her two kids were the boundary no one could pass.
Bailey soon reminded herself to be extra cautious to avoid anyone from dragging Susan and Zayron through the mud.
At the Luther residence's infirmary, Glen leaned against the headboard and glanced sideways at Edmund, who was at his bedside. “Is your only choice the lady from the Jefferson family?”
Edmund flashed Glen a faint smile and responded softly, “I grew up by your side since I was young. Hence, I think you know my personality better than anyone. If I can't marry Bay, I won't marry anyone else for the rest of my life.”
Upon hearing him, Glen sneered, “Many in the Chivers family commit themselves to their loved ones. Your dad used to be like that, and now it's your turn. I can't help but feel touched.”
Edmund responded to Glen smilingly, “Grandpa, you're also like that. Otherwise, you wouldn't always consider abandoning the family to keep grandma company beneath the earth.”
Glen glared at him upon hearing it. “You brat! You always mock me whenever there is an opportunity. How fortunate I am to have such a kind grandson.”
Edmund's lips curled into a wry smile. Later, he bowed at Glen and said, “Grandpa, I need your help to persuade the others to accept my relationship with Bay. Please tolerate our nagging and stay alive for a few more years.”
Glen spat and said sarcastically, “Humph! Do you think I have no idea about your current situation? Five days have passed, yet you still haven't found the one who can perform surgery on me. Why don't you stop your nonsense!”
Unperturbed, Edmund raised his eyebrows and chuckled. “Grandpa, do you mean you'll follow through with the treatment if we can find someone?”
Glen waved his hand and said, “Find them first, and we'll discuss it later. Anyway, when will you bring the lady from the Jefferson family back to visit me?”
Edmund nodded and answered, “I'll bring her here one day.” Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
In the study, Veronique bowed at Yoel and Felicity and said with frustration, “I'm so sorry. I studied
different treatments for five days but haven't found the suitable method to perform craniotomy for Old Mr. Chivers.”
