Chapter 42: Bad news
A second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
Ten minutes passed, and the door was still closed, and the quiet sound was so sickening.
Despite his hangover, he didn’t show any irritation or discomfort. He was still waiting patiently, but as time passed, she was still nowhere to be seen, he also became more transparent.
Why hasn’t she come yet? Or are you not here anymore? Is it about yesterday?
Suddenly outside the door came the sound of footsteps, the sound of high heels knocking on the floor, he was startled out of his thoughts.
Not her. Zane confirmed. Clara never made any unpleasant sounds when she came here, she always kept quiet.
The knock on the door sounded, and he sighed, feeling uncomfortable, and didn’t want to meet people he didn’t need to meet.
“I’m a nurse, can I come in?”
A girl’s voice, clear, pleasant, but not hers.
“Come in.” He replied dryly.
The door opened, and a ‘Pink’ sound like a stone dropped into the water. The door is closed.
“What are you calling for?”
The girl came to stand at the end of the bed and looked at him expectantly, to see what he needed. Zane had no obvious reaction. Is there a mistake? He didn’t call anyone or make any requests.
The girl patiently stood there and watched him without leaving.
Silent.
Suddenly he remembered that he had accidentally pressed the bell on the bed. If she did, then by the way he wanted to know if she was coming today.
“Cinderella!” The nurse raised her eyebrows and listened in confusion: “I mean where’s that girl? Why hasn’t this hour come yet?”
The nurse looked around the room, only now realizing Clara’s absence.
“The volunteer hasn’t arrived yet. I don’t know why either.”
The girl replied, I really don’t know.
Feeling frustrated, he asked the girl out.
“You can go out.” He spoke in an emotionless voice.
“Yes, if you need anything, call, we are always ready to serve.”
Even though she didn’t want to, the girl didn’t know what to do to stay. Expressing regret at the opportunity to take care of him, he quickly turned his head to leave. The door closed.
He was alone in the room.
After all, why hasn’t she come yet?
Thirty minutes then an hour passed, another twenty minutes, she still wasn’t there.
Zane really couldn’t stand this hopeless wait, there was no news from her.
He has never been so patient.
Never did he wait for anyone or anything without being angry and frustrated.
No one had ever confused him in his thoughts as she had.
Damn! he has reached that limit.
What the hell is going on, will you come or not?
He rang the bell repeatedly as if he wanted to ruin it to immediately demand an explanation from the hospital.
Very quickly a nurse entered, immediately embarrassed to receive his anger.
“Please calm down. I really don’t know, I’m just a nurse, I don’t know about this.” Her voice was pleading, trembling almost on the verge of tears.
“Call the person in charge immediately.” He ordered, but it was too much to be patient.
“Yes, I’ll go now.”
Just waiting for that, the girl quickly walked out of the room. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
He was alone again.
Why did he get angry for no reason?
Once more, the door opened, this time the person responsible for the volunteers came in person.
“You need to see me.”
True professional working style. The woman spoke in a gentle voice.
“What happened?”
He asked, frustrated that he couldn’t get rid of his thoughts about her.
“What do you mean?” The woman still spoke softly, clearly not understanding what he meant.
“I asked where the girl in charge of taking care of me was. Why haven’t you come by now?”
Zane spoke loudly however instead of acting incomprehensibly, he still tried to make his voice sound as calm as possible.
A little surprised at his question, this woman still didn’t know anything, still thought Clara was coming just like every other day.
“Please wait a moment, I will contact the person in charge of the other side.”
He was silent and said nothing.
The woman went to the window, took the phone, and immediately dialed the director.
A short conversation, but the content is very clear and necessary. Then she turned to look at him convincingly.
“I’ve contacted them, please wait a little longer. She’s probably on her way.”
He said nothing, at least that information put him at ease. The woman was still right waiting for a positive response from him.
Zane raised his hand to signal her out, he needed to correct his state before meeting her.
The room was once again occupied by him alone. It’s lonely, empty. It was as if without her there was no place where people wanted to stay in the same place for a long time.
oOo
Clara staggered into the unknown space, her hand trying to reach out to grab his arm, but couldn’t, before leaning back she could still see a glimpse of his bewildered face looking at her.
The roll quickly came to a complete stop.
Boom!
An echoing sound, her head spinning, she lay there playing between life and death. Before everything turned completely black, her eyes dreamily watched her run out, gaping, staring at her, she swore she’d seen her scream at the man.
“What the hell did you do?”
Blurry vision, Everything has turned black. She fell into the abyss, and not a single ray of light penetrated.
Where are you? No pain and no struggle.
All unspecified.
Her ears heard buzzing and then stopped, she completely lost consciousness.
oOo
Zane was still sitting there, leaning against the edge of the bed, eyes fixed on the window, the church bells had long since ended, but Clara still hadn’t come. He hadn’t stopped thinking aimlessly, not knowing if it was because of yesterday’s incident that she wanted to avoid him.
The feeling of not being able to find the answer made his heart turn upside down, he’s never been like this, after all, why? He sat like that for nearly two hours, so many people came in and out of his room, but she never appeared. He felt very nauseous, a little unsettled for no reason. Wondering what happened to her?
‘Cup’
The glass in his hand fell to the floor, making a shrill sound. Zane was very careful, but still let that happen, when he put the glass on the table right next to him, he thought he had pushed it inside, but when he was just at the edge of the table he let go, so the playing glass emptied and fell.
Suddenly the door opened again.
It’s you, isn’t it? He couldn’t hold back his excitement and immediately spoke without waiting for the person outside to speak.
“Cinderella!”
Zane hopes it’s her, but soon the feeling of hopelessness rises again, followed by an unknown fear.
Today, Clara can’t come.
