‘I’m just doing someone a favor, and you have to accept it. Otherwise, I won’t be able to reply when I

get back!’ Without waiting for my response, he dropped the jacket into my hands.

When I wanted to return it, he had already turned to leave and just stopped outside the

pavilion. Turning to look at me with a sincere expression, he said: ‘Miss Lilian, I’m so sorry about what

happened tonight!’
