There was no sound on the other end of the line.

Feng Man sobbed. She said pleadingly, “Fu Le, have you forgotten your promise to me? Why are you

Feng man looked at the screen of the phone that had turned black in disbelief. Fu Le did not say a

word and hung up on her.

Ding Ling could not hold back anymore and said, “Feng Man, don’t call him anymore. You’re only

hurting yourself.”

Feng Man returned the phone to Ding Ling and smiled sadly. “Alright. I won’t disturb him anymore, and

I won’t hurt myself anymore. I’ve been so stupid…”

Feng Man reached out and gestured to Ding Ling to bring her daughter to her. Her daughter was
