Chapter 398 Take This Back

After hanging up the phone, Lisanne grasped Winnie’s hand in exhilaration.

“My professor’s student knows the general location! Thus, we can narrow down the scope of our scouting! Better still, he has already set up an appointment with his student. I’ll head back right away! We can buy a return flight ticket to the country now! Yes!”

“Okay. We’ll have a drink together after returning to the country. I’ll drive you!”

While saying that, Winnie snagged the car key from the coffee table and stood up. Her movements were so smooth that they appeared to be a work of art.

Seeing that, Lisanne was wholly stumped.

Even Lucas, who was on the phone, was momentarily taken aback.

Two seconds later, the twins exclaimed excitedly in unison, “You can see again?”

At that, Winnie herself was stunned. In the next instant, she burst out laughing. “Oh God, I was so keyed up that I forgot I couldn’t see! I thought I was a normal person and was prepared to drive you!”

Having said that, she chortled once more.

Meanwhile, both Lisanne and Lucas froze for a while. Disappointment swamped them after the initial delight.

By then, Xavier had also strode to the bedroom door with his phone in hand upon hearing the commotion.

Following Winnie’s explanation, however, he quietly retraced his steps after standing rooted to the spot for several seconds.

Winnie felt sorry that she had created such a fuss that shocked everyone. Smiling, she placed the car key back onto the coffee table.

Then, she looked in Lisanne’s direction and murmured, “Well, I won’t be driving you, then.”

“Okay. I’ll have Lucas drive me over.”

Bobbing her head, Winnie asked, “Is it far?”

“Not really. Sit down or go back to the room to rest. I’ll see myself out,” Lisanne hastily replied.

Despite those words, Winnie still saw Lisanne and Lucas to the door. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

Over the moon after hearing that piece of good news that day, she even wore her heart on her sleeve.

Although she had lost her sight, she still stood at the door and “saw” them off. Only when she could no longer hear the siblings’ voices did she close the door and go back into the suite.

No sooner had she turned around than a pair of scorching hands landed on her waist.

Before she realized what was happening, she was already lifted entirely and pinned against the door.

On instinct, she wrapped her legs around the man’s lean waist.

She hadn’t any time to speak before Xavier’s deep voice rang out, threaded with a faint hint of elation.

“Winnie, Winnie, I’m so happy. I’m so thrilled that I’m close to losing my mind.”

He called her name repeatedly, his voice gentle yet brimming with vitality. Every single time, it struck her squarely in the chest.

As his cries of her name drifted into her ears, a bolt of electricity seemingly coursed through her.

It wasn’t until then that she understood that Xavier was far happier than her over the fact that she could live a whole life.

Gradually, her eyes turned red-rimmed. Raising her arms, she hooked them around his neck. “I don’t want you to lose your mind, silly. I want you to be hale and hearty. Then, we can—”

However, her utterance remained uncompleted, for Xavier captured her lips.

He kissed her skin inch by inch, his every movement radiating his elation.

At noon the next day, they all arrived back in Avenport.

After three whole days of preparation, Lisanne set off for Alendor.

Winnie and Xavier shared the good news with Josiah at once.

Unfortunately, the man had left on a business trip and wasn’t in Avenport presently.

As soon as he returned three days later, he went to Lagune Mansion to dine with them.

When he reached the couple’s place, Xavier was reading the financial news to Winnie.

Winnie, on the other hand, commented on them while leaning against Xavier’s shoulder.

Having remarked on them, she added, “I haven’t done anything in a long time. It feels like the ups and downs of the business world aren’t as interesting anymore without me manipulating things behind the scenes.”

Xavier looked down at her and suggested with a chuckle, “In that case, choose a day to go back to your old profession.”

“Forget it. I’m actually not all that passionate about it.” After saying that, Winnie turned to the back and said to Josiah, “You’ve got to pay to listen to my analysis. How much longer are you planning on eavesdropping?”

Initially, Josiah stood leaning back against the wall. At her words, he straightened and walked toward them.

As he headed toward the couple, he questioned, “How did you know I was there when I’d already treaded lightly?”

“Because I have eyes.” Curling her index and middle fingers, Winnie gestured in Xavier’s direction. While doing that, she revealed, “Xavier already told me about your arrival furtively just now. How remiss of you for not approaching and taking a seat.”

“I just didn’t want to interrupt you both.” Saying that, Josiah sat down across from Winnie and Xavier.

Subsequently, he took out a high-end velvet box from behind him and held it out to Winnie.

Winnie vaguely sensed that the man was handing her something. Although she had no idea what it was, she still reached out and took it.

She touched the surface of the box and felt that it resembled a gift. Hence, she asked, “What is this?”

“Tuition fees. Didn’t you say I need to pay to listen to your analysis?” Josiah quipped.

Mirth bubbled within Winnie. “I was merely joking. You took it seriously?”

“I know. I was likewise joking.” All of a sudden, Josiah turned solemn. “This is Bellridge’s claim to fame. I went there on a business trip for the past few days, so I bought back the local specialty.”

“Bellridge?” Winnie pondered for a moment before venturing, “Then, it should be pearls, yes? Is this jewelry?”

“Yeah. My initial plan was to buy only a set for my mother. On second thought, I asked Xavier whether I should buy a set for him as a gift for you. Regretfully, he disdains such cheap stuff and wants to give you even better jewelry. Thus, I can only lead the way with this substandard item. Of course, I also hope you’ll be happy with it.”

“Thank you! Who wouldn’t be happy to receive a gift from a good friend?” While Winnie spoke, she opened the box.

She touched everything at length. In no time, she had gotten an idea of it all.

It was a whole set of pearl jewelry, complete with a necklace, earrings, bracelet, brooch, and even a ring.

Judging from the texture, the quality of the pearls was impeccable. Accordingly, she reckoned that the design of the earrings and brooch must be exquisite.

Beaming, she declared, “I love it! Thank you, Josiah.”

With that, she made to close the box.

Unexpectedly, Xavier stopped her from doing so.

Winnie arched her brow a fraction. “What’s wrong?”

With a grim expression on his face, Xavier took the ring out of the jewelry box and handed it to Josiah. “Take this back.”

Josiah was startled for a second before realization dawned. He put on a speechless expression. “It’s a set. I’m not giving her a ring by itself. Stop blaming me when you’re slow to act.”

“What do you know?” Xavier shot him a glare.

I must give her the best, but until now, the most beautiful diamond hasn’t been cut yet. Even if it’s a decorative ring in a set, it has to be from me!
