Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Chris finished making fruit salad before covering it. He was the one making dinner again today and he
wanted everything to be perfect and delicious like the previous dinner that he had made. His thoughts
could help back go back at the restaurant this afternoon.
He was pissed. Pissed with Kimberly for acting like a spoiled brat when she wasn't. He was trying,
right? Chris couldn't help but wonder where he had gone wrong with her. She was supposed to be
happy that he found time to take her for lunch but she she wanted more. More when he himself had
sacrificed a day from work for her. She was supposed to be grateful but she wasn't.
Instead, she complained. Complained about having dinner within the town instead of outside the town.
That comment had pissed him off but he didn't let it affect him that much. Then she called Maya a
whore. That was it for him.
He wanted to protect Maya which lead him to telling Kimberly to stop. But her being her, she continued
ignoring him. He wanted to speaking. Maybe before Mr. Ambrose spoke up? He didn't know but he just
wanted to be the one to protect his wife and not her friend. But before he could say anything, things
happened way too fast for him.
Maya was already on her feet with a glass of water in her hands and before it sinks in him, the glass is
empty. He did hear Kimberly gasp and he was just about to pull her in his arms when two slaps landed
on her sweet cheeks.
To say he was shocked, it would be understatement. And just then Maya was explaining, no, shouting
at Kimberly the meaning of a whore. He was happy for her. Happy that now she could stand up for
herself without anyone to help her at all.
And that's why when Kimberly asked him to follow her, he turned and smiled at Maya. That was his
way of showing her how proud he was for her. As a husband, a friend and a man who wants people to
stand up for themselves.
Ironic? I know.
Chris stared the beef that was on stove and moved to washing the already pilled potatoes. He was
making dinner tonight like the previous night and he wanted everything to be okay. After the potatoes
where clean, he transferred them to a cooking pot and added some water in them.
If it weren't for Kimberly getting mad and kicking him out of her apartment, maybe he would still be
there. But she did. He had followed her and driven her back to her apartment. After coming to a stop,
he followed his girlfriend to her apartment and waited in the living room for her to change.
Few minutes went by and she wasn't out. Chris decided to check up on her and she was cuddling up
on her soft bed crying her eyes out. That wasn't Kimberly to him. The Kimberly he knew never showed
her weakness. She never allowed people to see her weakness exceptionally him. The only other time
he saw her cry since their years of dating was six months ago.
The day that the public knew he was engaged to a one Miss Freeman and not her. She had cried her
eyes out. And at that moment, Chris had hated himself more than he did when he had put an
engagement ring on the governor's daughter. His heart broke into pieces but no matter how he tried, he
couldn't change back the time. What's done is done.
Chris moved to her bed and rubbed her back soothingly, she had to came down and she did after a
while. Chris wanted to apologize but she spoke up before he could. She began to tell him how all of it
was his fault which he understood.
He shouldn't have kissed Maya on his stage but he did. Then after one month of not seeing her he is
forced into a marriage. A marriage with no love when he should have been preparing to get engaged to
Kimberly the love of his life by then. Now, he has his buts at the back of his mind.
Kimberly went ahead to accuse him of planning everything with Maya to have her revenge. She
accused him of knowing that Maya was there which he has no idea. Yes, he had overhead Maya on the
phone this morning with her friend and he had promised to take her for lunch. But he had no idea that it
was in the same restaurant that he would take Kimberly.
Then how was it his fault? He didn't ask her to call Maya names, right? He was no angel to know he
would run into them anyway. Then, why was she blaming him for everything? Why was she ready to
fight with him for no reason.
Chris got up from the bed and began to walk out. Of course Kimberly asked him where he was going
and he answered with all honest. He couldn't deal with her in that state, so he was giving her time to
cool off. But she, she threw tantrums at him by telling him to leave since that is what he always does.
To leave her behind.
Chris removed the already cooked beef and put the pot with potatoes on stove for them to cook. He
then pulled a dish and transfered all the beef stew in it. He set his time for the potatoes and began cut
onions.
After he had walked out of the apartment, Chris went back to the studio where they worked on his
album. There were still plenty of work to be done like naming the album, photoshoot for the album and
video shoot. As for the photoshoot, his manager assured him of taking care of it and the video while he,
he had to think of the name to call his album. Maybe from one of the songs?
But being in that studio helped him escape from the real world. Escape from thinking about Kimberly
who was still crying on the bed where he left her and his wife to whom they had ruined her lunch with
along with her friend. And then evening came with new ideas in the mind.
He called his nanny and asked her not to make dinner adding her another day to go home early. Chris
walked to the grocery store again and bought what he wanted to prepare dinner. And that's why he was
there, in the kitchen making there dinner. He knew in a few minutes or an hour she will be home and he
was all done.
He was just setting the table when the front door opened and closed. Then foot steps which stopped at
the foot of the stairs. Chris walked out of the dining table to his wife who was texting someone on the
phone. He so wanted to know who it was since it wasn't him. If it was Mr. Ambrose, they're spending
allot of time with him which made his wonder if she liked him.
"Hey," he greeted wiping his hands with the apron that he was wearing.
Maya looked up from her phone, "hey, you're home?" he knew she didn't mean it as a question but
statement.
Chris smiled at her, "yeah, go freshen up, dinner will be ready in a jiffy."
Chris watched her smile at him then walk upstairs. He went back to setting the table and when he was
done, he went back to check on potatoes. They were ready so he took another pot and put onions in it
and some oil. He let the onion heat and just when he was adding the potatoes, Maya walked in the
kitchen.
"That was quick," Chris said without looking at her.
"What can I do to help?" Chris turned to look at her.
She had changed to a blue short and a big shirt which made him wonder why she would wear
something big than her but she still looked cute. Her hair was held in messy ponytail which had him
sure of her not combing it before she held it. She looked cute that he was about to forget what she
asked and burn himself.
"You're a distraction," Chris said smiling at her. "Why don't you go to the dinning and have some fruit
salad before I'm done here?"
Chris felt her eyes on him but he didn't dare to look at that cute face of hers.
"I can finish that as you freshen up," she offered.
Chris continued to mash the potatoes, "I don't want to help the day you'll be cooking. So, it's a no."
Chris heard Maya chuckle before she said something like if I knew before walking out of the kitchen.
Chris finished with the potatoes and also transferred them into a dish and took it to the dinning table
where Maya was eating her salad and typing something on it.
"No phones during dinner time," he said walking to her. "Hand it over, wify."
"And why is that?"
"Table manners, so hand it over, cupcake."
And she did. Chris took the phone upstairs and he walked to the bathroom. He freshen up and
changed into sweatpants. He carried his black shirt down stairs just to see the reaction on Maya's face.
"It's about time..." the she stopped talking.
Her face was all red which made him smirk. He had an effect on her which gave him a point. And the
name cupcake made him score more that he thought he could.
"Can you please put on your shirt?"
Chris chuckled, "And why should I?"
"Your words not mine," Maya said not looking at him, "table manners."
"Ooh, that," he pulled the shirt over his head. "Happy now?"
"Very, can we eat now since I'm starving?"
Chris nodded his head and she wasted no time in serving her food to the fullest. He watched her eat as
they eat in silence. The food was delicious that he even licked his lips something that he was thankful
for not having his momma around because if she was and seen him do that, he wouldn't hear the end
of it.
Once they were done, he took the dishes away and came back with the dessert. This time it wasn't his
red velvet but chocolate ice cream.
"Your favourite," Chris said spooning the ice cream to Maya's bowl.
"Your heard Leonel before you walked out of the restaurant, didn't you?"
Chris smiled at her, "of course, I did."
"Then I wish you had stayed a bit longer to hear the rest," she took the ice cream to her mouth. "This is
Leo's dessert not mine."
"And why did he say it was yours?" All the appetite he had for dessert was now all gone.
Maya smiled at him, "Poor hubby," she spooned another into her mouth. "You need to get to know
Leonel much better before you take him serious."
Just when she was about to spoon another spoon, Chris took the dessert away from her and stood up.
"Hey, I'm not done with that."
He heard her say that but he didn't stop. Maybe she was right, he needed to know Leonel better before
he took his words seriously. He threw the dessert in the sink and the remaining one he put it in the
fridge noting that he will give it to his nanny the next day.
"That was rude," he heard Maya say from behind.
Chris turned to her, "Then tell me your favorite dessert, why does he know when I don't?"
Chris watched her take in a deep breath, "Are we having our first argument now as friends?"
"Friends?" He asked locking his gaze with her. "Maya, we're a couple, I'm your husband and we're not
having an argument. I just want to know your dessert, I mean favourite the way mine is red velvet and
Mr. Ambrose is chocolate ice cream. That's all. And it's not fair that he knows yours and your husband
has no clue."
"I can't believe this. Ooh my God, this can't be happening. We can't just be fighting now, can we?"
"We're not Maya, just answer me."
"Are you jealous of Leonel?"
Chris laughed at her question, "Me, Chris freaking Rollins, jealous of that two goody goody shoes?"
"Are you or not?" Maya still locked her gaze with him, "it's a simple question."
"Of course not," Chris looked away from her.
"Good then, we shouldn't be having this conversation."
Chris watched her walk out of the kitchen. He couldn't help but wonder if he had gone too far with her.
He just wanted to know her favorite dessert but he had gone the wrong way. That's not how he wanted
to spent his evening. Arguing and especially with her.
Once he was done with the utensils, he walked to there room where he found her on the phone. It
pissed him off that she run to that friend of hers after their small misunderstanding. She looked mad but
not the dangerous mad which was a good thing.
"Hey," he greeted taking baby steps. "Can we talk?"
She didn't, instead she turned her back on him.
"Please Maya. I don't want us to fight. Don't give me silent treatment again because I can't handle it."
Maya turned to look at him.
"Please."
He gave her puppy eyes.
"Fine."
"In the garden?"
"Okay," he watched her get up with her phone.
"And no phones, please."
She returned the phone on the nightstand where he had placed it before and walked in front of him.
Outside the breeze flew from every corner and they sat on the bunch. The sky was clear and the stars
were show casing their beauty up the sky.
They were both quite for a while everyone lost in their own thoughts. Chris wanted to speak but he had
no idea where to start from. He also wanted to talk about what took place this afternoon in the
restaurant and that's when it hit him. Everything was going back to that evening.
Their argument was about dessert. The one he overheard before he walked out of the restaurant.
That's why she was mad. Because she remembered the afternoon.
"I'm re..." they all said at once.
They both laughed which made Chris think that it wasn't that bad at all.
"You go first," Maya told him as she turned to look at him.
"I'm sorry for coming out on you like that few minutes ago, I'm sorry for letting Kimberly call you names
which you handled so well and I'm sorry for not being the man that you deserve in this life."
"It's okay. Actually I should be apologizing for this afternoon."
Chris looked at her, "your just defending yourself, Maya."
"I know but I ended up calling you names too and embarrassing you as well. I don't regret what I did
with Kimberly but I'm sorry for involving you too."
"Maya," he said taking her hands. "You just stated the facts which ended up being true, that's all and to
be honest, I didn't think that much in the lines."
Maya laughed at his statement. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
"That's good because I said hurtful words, Mr. Rollins."
Chris smiled at her playful face. He had to play along. "Really Mrs. Rollins? And what might that be?"
He saw her blush when he called her Mrs. Rollins. It was the first time he called her and then he
remembered how he didn't want to be associated with her before and now here he was, rubbing her
hands and getting jealous of another guy for knowing her better than he did.
He just knew her painful life and he didn't know her happy moments. He knew it didn't make sense but
this some things are the one that make people to know each other better and he wanted to know her.
To know her likes and dislikes. So before she answered his question, he spoke up.
"White and blue but green has also been my favorite since seven months ago."
Maya looked at him in confusion.
"Favorite colour."
"Ooh, we're really doing this?"
"Why not?" He asked in confusion.
Maya smiled at him, "When I was a kid, I used to watch the stars from the window of my room. My
brother used to tell me that the brightest star was our mum who was watching over us."
That's not what he wanted but they're going somewhere.
"Everyone knows that the governor has a son. But where is your brother?"
"He left to join army since he could be a doctor like Papa wanted him to be. So one day I was with him,
the next I was reading a letter from him when I got back from school. And till date, I've no idea if he is
alive or dead. But I chose to believe that he is alive since I can't loose another loved one."
Chris watched her fight her tear but she couldn't anymore. He let go of her hand and wiped her tears
away. He cheeks felt soft in his hands but it was not time to think of that.
"He must have been a good guy."
"The best there will ever be. I was actually jealous of the girls he dated to be honest."
"Seriously?"
Maya laughed at his look. "You can't blame me, he was all that I had back then. And did I tell you that
my best friend had a crush on him and I didn't tell him because I was afraid to share him with her?"
"No..."
"Selfish, I know but I don't like sharing my things. Especially my loved ones."
Chris felt a lump in his throat. She was allowing him to see Kimberly still. That made him what? He
wasn't her loved one since she was sharing him with someone else and she wasn't stopping him at all.
He felt disappointed and hurt at the same time.
Why? He was confused also.
"We should go back inside." He didn't know why he said that but he found himself saying it. Maya
looked at him but he got up and walked towards the door. He heard her follow behind and he locked
the door once they're all in.
Everything was going on so well but he had to ruin it. He followed her to their room and she took her
phone once again. He panicked and he didn't know what he was doing until he had her phone in his
hands.
When he saw the look on her face he spoke the first thing that came out of his mouth.
"No phone the whole night. Good night, cupcake."
He pecked cheeks and walked to the bed. He handed her the duvet and removed his shirt and got
under the covers switching of the lights. He didn't know why he was acting that way but it was too late
for anything.
He just hoped that the following day was going to be better and not awkward.
