Shattered Vows Shining Comeback

Chapter 33

Chapter 33 Dinner Party Debacle

Judy’s blunt reply sounded from the other line, “Well, it’s your choice. If you need anything, I’m just a call away

“Thanks, Judy,” Gwen said, hanging up.

Yara inched closer. “What are you going to do about this, babe? I can’t believe the nerve of that bitch!”

“Henry’s taking me to a dinner party hosted by the Bellmont Chambers of Commerce, All of Bellmont’s high society will be in attendance. I’ll expose that bitch’s true colors then.”

Upon hearing this, Yara waved her fist in the air and cheered her best friend on. “That’s the spirit, babe! You go and ruin that bitch’s life!”

On the evening of the dinner party, all of Bellmont’s high society was dressed to the nines as they gathered in the opulently decorated hall, mingling among themselves.

Gwen was naturally fashionably late. She wore a stunning long dress hand–encrusted with crystals. It clung to her figure perfectly, and as she wove through the crowd elegantly, her dazzling presence stole the room’s attention.

She was a portrait of regal beauty with her delicately made–up face and aloof expression. There was no warmth in her eyes, adding to her overall imposing demeanor.

The other heiresses who had read the scandalous write–up the day before immediately dived into gossip at the sight of

Gwen.

Caitlin was holding a flute of champagne when the ladies around her huddled close. They wore curious expressions as they asked in hushed tones, “Caitlin, everyone on social media is saying that Gwen is your sister–in–law. Is it true?”

“Yeah, and she looks like the woman whose pictures were included in the article! I have to admit, she’s quite pretty,” one of the ladies added.

Caitlin scoffed, rolling her eyes in contempt. “I would never acknowledge that pathetic cheater as my sister–in–law. My brother has already divorced her.”

Across the room, Gwen found Caitlin and smirked as she slowly made her way over.

“she used to own a boutique and tried to come between my brother and Sienna. That little vixen tried to marry into my family, and we couldn’t get rid of her fast enough!” Caitlin continued. “Jake never touched her though.

“She worked at Hall Group during the day and straightened out the house at night. She was no better than a maid.”

Spurred on by the need to gossip, Caitlin headed to the bar to get herself another drink, her gaggle of friends tailing Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

her.

“She snagged herself a wealthy man in Dornwick and immediately demanded a divorce. She’s a homewrecker and a whore, right down to her bones!”

The other heiresses were lapping up the information. However, when they turned and found Gwen leveling an icy at them, they shuddered. None dared to make a sound as the air around them crackled with tension.

Caitlin, oblivious to Gwen’s presence, carried on. “I mean, have you ever heard of a bigger slut?”

She spun

around at that moment and found Gwen staring at her. She jumped, the words dying in her throat as she dropped her glass of wine.

Gwen was holding a champagne flute as she narrowed her eyes at Caitlin like the latter was helpless prey. She towered over Caitlin and scanned her from head to toe as she snorted.

Go on with your riveting commentary. I’m all ears.”

Prideful as she was, Caitlin refused to back down even as a chill snaked down her spine. I was only stating facts!

Jake’s going to marry Sienna soon, and there is no one better suited for him, which is more than I can say for a filthy peasant like you!”

“You must be confused. It’s only been a few days since Jake and I divorced, yet Sienna is three months pregnant, so who’s the homewrecker here?” Gwen sneered

Sarah, who had been chatting away with the other guests, hurried over to pull Caitlin aside.

She pointed at Gwen and demanded in a piercing voice, “You couldn’t even give me a grandchild, you worthless brat, and you dare talk bad about my son? At least Sienna can fulfill my dreams of becoming a grandmother. Can you?”

Sarah would have continued hurling abuse at Gwen had Jake not noticed the debacle and come over to stop it.

“That’s enough!” he barked.

Sarah looked around and belatedly realized that she should have kept her voice down. She at least had the decency to look sheepish as she fell silent.

Jake had heard Sarah’s shrewd screaming from across the room, and he did not miss the condescending words she had used. Yet, Gwen did not look the least bit ruffled, almost like she had grown used to such abuse.

But that was not Jake’s main concern. He only cared about what Sarah and Caitlin had said. He eyed Gwen, his former wife, and asked quietly, “Is it true? Were you like a free maid for the three years you stayed with us?”

Gwen looked down her nose at Jake and Sienna, her lips curling in disdain. “You usually take your mother’s and sister’s words at face value, so why are you asking me now?”
