Chapter 74
Rafe made a witty joke. However, Jessica was unable to laugh at it.
"Boss? I'm not a boss. However, I did not need to work either in the past. I was the most influential socialite in Horington. Although I was not omnipotent, I held significant power," she thought. "I'm not a bigshot boss. I just own a small stall," Jessica replied placidly. She picked up the glass and sipped a mouthful of alcohol.
Rafe grinned and said, "Then, if you have the chance to do so in the future, set up a stall. This time, sell me as the product. I'll sell myself and let you keep the money from the sale." "How much are you worth?"
A deep and low voice traveled from behind them. Rafe's face turned white with fear.
"This lass had not done this on purpose, had she? What should I do? Mr. Gulliford can't possibly care about an insignificant employee like me dating. Have I offended him? Or does Mr. Gulliford like Jessica? It can't possibly be! Isn't Jessica just a small receptionist? Or could it be that Mr. Gulliford likes me? No way! I'm a straight man!" A barrage of thoughts ran through Rafe's mind.
"Mr. Gulliford, do you have anything against Rafe?"
Jessica furrowed her brows slightly. "What does Trevor want? Rafe was just making a joke. Why is he creating trouble for him?" she thought.
"It's all right, Jessica. Mr. Gulliford probably has something to tell you. I'll make a move first-"
"Precisely. I have something against him."
Trevor did not bother concealing his emotions. "Is there a problem with that? What? Is she unhappy?" he mused.
"If that's the case, please have a good chat with him. I'll make a move first. If there's anything you need me to do, please let me know." Trevor and Rafe were dumbfounded at Jessica's actions.
Rafe was especially confused. He had thought that Jessica would speak up for him. "What's this?" he thought.
Jessica picked up her glass of whiskey from the table and smiled as she walked away.
"They can't possibly believe that I will speak up for Rafe. I'm just a small secretary, and I don't wish to offend Trevor," she contemplated. "Mr. Gulliford, please let me know what I've done wrong. I'll definitely change!"
Rafe frowned faintly. If the situation escalated, he would be so terrified that he would develop a heart problem.
"What do you think?"
Trevor glanced at Rafe in disdain. Thereafter, he walked away and did not bother continuing the conversation.
Rafe cupped the left side of his chest and felt helpless and exasperated.
"Who have I offended?" he thought.
Jessica searched for Pamela in the crowd and drew closer to her while smiling.
Pamela caught sight of Jessica and hurriedly bade goodbye to the handsome man she was talking to. She then walked toward Jessica.
"Jessica, I have an earth-shattering piece of news! Hurry up and come over."
Pamela pulled her to the table and sat down, looking secretive and mysterious.
"You don't know, do you? Mr. Gulliford is getting married."
"Oh."
Jessica nodded and raised her gaze to see Pamela staring at her with a dazed expression. Pamela appeared to be dissatisfied with Jessica's calm reaction. Thus, Jessica immediately put on an exaggerated show of surprise and nodded. "Goodness! He's getting married?"
"Yes!" Pamela could barely accept her mediocre reaction. "Do you know who the bride is?"
"Who?"
Jessica sipped her whiskey and could not care less.
She did not dare to provoke or inquire about the man who had shown her what heaven looked like, then kicked her to hell. She was so cowardly that she did not even dare to resign from her position.
It was easy to see how much she feared him.
"Leah! It's the lady who dresses up super seductively and talks really coquettishly. Do you have no impression of her?"
"I remember her! How could I not?"
Jessica nodded and the smile on her face deepened. However, the smile was not genuine. "So, it's her," she thought.
"Yep! She dresses up like a chic and cool lady, but talks in a high-pitched and childish voice. No one can forget her once they meet her. This type of woman is really... Tsk tsk tsk..."
Pamela curled her lips.
"You dislike her?" Jessica was a little drunk after drinking two glasses of whiskey. If not for her good alcohol tolerance, she would have blacked out a long time ago.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
