Chapter 812
Chapter 812:
Watching him struggle, Allison felt a wave of disgust.
She laughed bitterly. “Nine months? What’s the deal? Let me guess. Is Melany pregnant?”
Colton flinched, caught off guard by her direct hit. He didn’t bother to deny it, his expression a mix of guilt and resignation.
“Yes, she’s pregnant, and it wouldn’t be right to leave now. But once it’s settled, I’ll make things right—I promise.”
Before he could finish, Allison’s laughter cut through the tense air, bitter and cold. “I don’t like playing stepmom, and I especially despise husbands who come with children,” she said, her gaze sharp as it pierced through Colton. “Tell me, why should I pick you over someone like Mr. Lloyd?”
That hit Colton like a ton of bricks. After all, Kellan was both single and wealthy, making Colton look like nothing in comparison. He found himself speechless.
As Allison turned to leave, Colton reached out desperately and grabbed her arm. “I can’t measure up to Kellan, but at least I can promise you safety. Did you know Kellan’s mixed up with the criminal underworld? Staying with him could put you in serious danger!”
He searched her face for any sign of belief. “As for the child, once it’s born, my mother will take care of it. Our life together won’t be disrupted by anyone.”
He hoped his words would sway her, but Allison coldly yanked her arm free.
“You disgust me,” she said, her voice cutting. “Your love is too little, too late, and I want no part of it.”noveldrama
Colton, his face pale, pleaded, “No, just give me a chance to make things right…”
Allison could tell Colton was drunk, and reasoning with him was pointless. Without hesitation, she slapped him hard.
The sound echoed as Colton stumbled backward, his cheek flushing a deep red.
Allison’s voice held a menacing undertone. “Consider this a pass for helping me once, but if you hassle me again, it won’t just be a slap next time.”
With those final words, she turned and walked away.
Colton, still facing the direction of the slap, watched her climb into a car. As the engine roared to life and the vehicle pulled away, leaving only a cloud of dust behind, he touched his stinging cheek and let out a soft, mad chuckle. “Allison, does your slap mean you still care?” But his question hung unanswered in the empty air.
Allison climbed into the car, greeted once again by the driver who had ferried Verruckt to the bustling White Stallion Club.
“Alice, need me to sort out that fellow who was hassling you?” the driver asked, a hint of readiness in his voice.
“No, just a drunk causing a scene,” Allison muttered, pressing her fingertips against her temples. She was determined to keep the shadows of Ontdale from creeping into the light.
