Secrets Of The Neglected Wife

Chapter 1060

Chapter 1060:

Hoyt opened his mouth to explain. But before he could utter a word, a slap landed squarely on his face.

Smack!

The sound echoed through the room, as merciless and unforgiving as the slap itself.

Although Hoyt was used to being hit, the sting still made him instinctively cover his cheek. He looked at Nova with a hurt and confused expression and asked,

“Mom, did I say something wrong?”

“Your mistake is your arrogance. You’re too confident in yourself!”

His mother’s usual gentle and kind expression had vanished entirely. Nova sat down in the chair and fixed a cold gaze on Hoyt.

“The reason your father entrusted you with the investment project has nothing to do with your abilities. If he really trusted your competence, he wouldn’t have made it clear that he doesn’t expect the collaboration to succeed. I know your father well. Unless something unexpected happens, Kellan will likely play a role in this project too. This is less about results and more about giving you a chance to gain real-world experience.”

Her eyes swept over Hoyt, who remained on the floor. Her disappointment in his lack of progress was evident.

“Essentially, it’s because you’re useless.” Nova massaged her forehead and sneered, “And don’t think I’ve forgotten about your earlier mistake. You had no business going to the Lloyd family’s residence to provoke Kellan a few days ago. Your foolishness and impulse caused us great trouble.”

The memory of that incident still made her blood boil.

Although Barton was dead, the fallout from the necklace incident lingered. It had strained her relationship with Brook, leaving him cold and distant over the past few days.

“Mom, I’m sorry. I was wrong,” Hoyt said, his voice filled with regret. Realizing the gravity of his actions, he dropped to his knees.

“I just couldn’t stand Kellan. I have a feeling that car accident has something to do with him!”

Nova’s frown deepened.

“Even if so, you should’ve endured it.”

She stared at him for a long moment. Her stern expression softened slightly as she took in his submissive posture. Eventually, she let out a heavy sigh.

“I’m not blaming you, Hoyt. I’m teaching you.”

She reached out and gently stroked his face.

“You’re too impulsive. Your recklessness will only lead to bigger problems.”

Hoyt felt a surge of relief at her words, thinking that the worst was over.

But her next sentence struck him like a chilling gust of wind.
