Salute To The General

Chapter 3069

Chapter 3069

Laura reached Nathan's home a while later and brought a few of her best subordinates with her, leaving the rest to wait in the courtyard. Nathan sat on the couch sipping coffee next to Penny and Queenie while Colin and Ava stood guard by the side with their hands clasped.

Laura was expecting Nathan to stand up and greet her, but he calmly remained seated on the couch, like a king receiving an audience with another country's emissary.

She had no choice but to tamp down her annoyance and stepped forward with her subordinates. "Hello, Mr. Cross, Mrs. Cross, and Ms. Smith," she said formally to Nathan and his family.

Penny nodded with a smile, and Queenie replied in a clear voice, "Hello."

Laura noticed that despite Queenie's young age, she was well-mannered, and her face was starting to lose her childlike features, becoming more mature.

She couldn't help but feel satisfied with the Curia's decision to choose her as the future Holy Maiden.

While she was studying Queenie, Nathan was doing the same to Laura.

He didn't miss the way Laura looked at Queenie and sensed something was amiss. His brows furrowed in response.

He asked placidly, "And you are Laura, one of the cardinals of the Curia?"

Laura gave a slight bow. "Yes, Mr. Cross."

Nathan continued in a neutral tone, "Why did the Curia send you here again when the Holy Maiden had just left? Is there something else?"

"Mr. Cross, I came here today to talk about strengthening our alliance," she answered with a grin.

Nathan's voice was indifferent.

"Didn't I make it very clear to the Holy Maiden that we all play different roles in this world? My job is to protect Eurasia's prosperity and safeguard the interests of its people; the Curia's job is to eliminate the dark clans and uphold justice. Therefore, we do not need to work

together. We only need to play our respective parts diligently." to This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

Laura smiled. There are many other aspects where Eurasia and the Curia could work together and succeed. Take, for example, the vampires who have been giving you trouble lately. We can join forces to defeat the vampires, werewolves, and even any of the dark clans-" to

"You may have misunderstood." Nathan cut her off. "The vampires aren't significant enough to constitute a problem to me, so I don't see why we should work together to defeat them."

Laura exclaimed in a rush, "Vampires are an evil race and an affliction to humans that should be exterminated. Mr. Cross, wouldn't you say you're being a little irresponsible toward humans and the world by refusing to fight against them?"

Penny, Colin, and Ava were all furious after Laura had blatantly accused Nathan. Nathan, on the contrary, remained unfazed, but his gaze turned glacial.

He shot her a chilling look. "I will

take action if the vampires dare to provoke me. Since we're being candid here; I won't mince words don't respect the Curia. It's obvious you have an ulterior motive, and an alliance is only a front. I never do business with conniving people, let alone ally with them. Was that straightforward enough for you?" to

Laura's words were like a slap in Nathan's face, and he returned the courtesy by bluntly exposing the Curia's corrupt intentions.

Laura's expression soured, but she then remembered that he wasn't the king of Adrune but the Dragon of the East, and he was not someone she could defy.

Moreover, she still hoped she could convince him to side with the Curia.

Thus, she softened her tone.

"Perhaps you're the one who misunderstood the situation here. The Curia is nothing but sincere in our hopes to ally with you. Pope Eugene had personally sent me here to inform you of the good news about Curia's decision as a show of good faith."

Sincere?

Good news?

"What's the good news?" He frowned, bewildered as to why the Curia's affairs, which had nothing to do with him, would be considered good news.
