Chapter 1637
"I want to talk to Mr. Martin. Could you please give us some space to talk alone?" Elsie requested Skylar.
Skylar raised an eyebrow.
Suddenly, Joe threw a crumpled talisman paper at Elsie. "Who gave you this talisman?"
Elsie stared at the familiar talisman on the ground, her eyes widening.noveldrama
"You... How could you crumple the talisman like this? This is a talisman that can help you recover your memories from your previous life! I'm doing this for your own good. I don't want you to continue being deceived by Skylar." No wonder she had waited all day yesterday and today and still hadn't seen him. It was because the talisman had been destroyed!
She glared angrily at Skylar. "It was you, wasn't it? You discovered the talisman and selfishly destroyed it to prevent Joe from realizing the truth! Skylar, do you know that you've ruined my life?"
"You've fallen too deep into the role. Have you ever considered that the extra memories you have are fragmented, like bits of text appearing in your mind?
"A negative item has influenced you. In other words, the person who gave you the talisman used you through the object," Skylar said, suddenly feeling pity for Elsie.
However, everyone deserving of pity had flaws that were hard to overlook.
After being targeted and used, Elsie was now stuck in the mire with no way out.
Elsie's gaze flickered as she recalled that woman blocking her and the words she said before cutting her off. It made her heart tremble uncontrollably.
A negative item... Was it really a negative item?
Were her and Joe's past experiences just illusions given to her by the object? But the emotions felt so real.
And yet, those memories seemed to be nothing more than fragments. She could only recall a few pieces repeatedly.
There was nothing beyond that-no vivid scenes of everyday life, like eating together at home or even bathing together.
Her chest felt like it was weighed down by a massive stone, making it hard to breathe.
"I... I... Haven't you remembered even the tiniest bit?" Elsie asked unwillingly. She couldn't accept that everything was just a dream.
"Get some security over," Joe said, having called someone at some point.
Elsie's eyes widened in disbelief. "You..."
Her eyes turned red with grievance. "How can you be so cold? Look at how pitiful I am. I have no idea where to go or what to do next, but you still call security on me."
She then looked toward Skylar. "As a woman, I'm younger than you. When you were my age, you weren't being treated unfairly as well? Can't you put yourself in my shoes?" Skylar had initially pitied Elsie, but now she only found her foolish.
"I know about your family's situation. If I were you, even if my family had nothing, as long as I am alive, I could work my way forward step by step and at least not starve to death.
"But you chose a shortcut-or
perhaps your father chose it for
you-yet you didn't resist but
accepted it instead. What does that
say? Trying to gain sympathy by playing the victim makes you undeserving of any sympathy."
Elsie's face flushed red. "You're not me. If you were me, you'd have no other options either! What right do you have to criticize me? I'm only 20. I've done nothing wrong.
"It's people like you who forced me to where I am now. And besides, you say those memories of mine are influenced by a negative item. Who can prove that?"
"I can," Joe said in a deep, cold voice.
Those simple words were a clear declaration of his support for Skylar.
Elsie's face burned, her cheeks felt hot as if she had been slapped. "She's deceiving you! How could there be such a thing as a negative item inthis day and age? How can you believe in something like that?"
"From the moment you placed the talisman on him, it was clear that you knew it was a negative item," Skylar exposed Elsie's lie.
Elsie's face turned even redder. "I... I thought it was just something like a protective talisman. How could I have known it was a negative item?" "Leave," Joe commanded coldly.
Elsie was so startled she jumped, her previously flushed face now pale.
"Stop harassing us. This is as far as
our tolerance for you goes. As for the negative item attached to you, I can help you deal with it," Skylar said, her patience worn thin by Elsie's persistent drama.
She was willing to give Elsie one last chance because of the negative item.
What do you think?
