Shane saw her. The car stopped beside her, and the window rolled down, revealing the face inside. “Will you get in, Ms. Sadler? I’ll take you home. It’s not safe for you to be out here alone, and it takes an hour to get to the city from the Barlow mansion.”

Mayra’s tears had dried on her face, and her eyes stung. She thought for a long time and finally got into the passenger seat silently. She pulled on her safety belt. “Can you take me to Gordon’s?”

Shane saw that his Bluetooth was still on, which meant that his call with Anderson was ongoing. Anderson had probably heard everything Mayra said.

Shane said calmly, “Ms. Sadler, you should listen to Mr. Barlow and stop interacting with Gordon so much. Mr. Barlow has been looking for you all day. Apart from your studies, you should understand how much Mr. Barlow thinks on your behalf. He’s doing all of this for your own good.”

Mayra sniffed and muttered, “I can judge for myself. Gordon isn’t mean at all. I don’t understand why he dislikes Gordon so much. Even if I don’t date him, we can still be ordinary friends. Why does he want to control everything so much? Mr. Gorman, can you send me back to Oakware Bay? I want to go home.”

Anderson wasn’t angry because she had contacted Gordon.

She had no idea why he was angry!

He had no right to be angry. Mayra was the one who should be angry!

Isabel! If he cared about Isabel so much, he should just let her move into the Barlow mansion.

What was he yelling at Mayra for?

“Um…” Shane said.

He did not know what to say, but Anderson’s voice suddenly filled the car. Bring her back.”

Shane immediately answered, “Okay, Mr. Barlow.”

Mayra refused, saying, “I don’t want to go back. I want to go back to my own

Shane turned the steering wheel and stepped on the gas pedal. Mayra’s eyes were still red, and she still hadn’t calmed down. In just two minutes, Mayra was outside the front door of the Barlow mansion.

The fountain in front of the mansion was lit up with a white glow, and there was a white statue of an angel in the middle.

Mayra could see through the floor–to–ceiling windows. She saw Anderson standing there, as if he was waiting for someone to return.

Shane got out of the car. “We’re here, Ms. Sadler.”

Mayra hugged her backpack to herself. “I don’t want to go in. This isn’t my

home.” She was defiant.

“Ms. Sadler, Mr. Barlow has raised you for more than a decade. He’s kept you with him since you were fo

or five years old, and he watched you grow up. He would be sad to hear you say something like that.”

Mayra could not retort. When she thought of what he had done for her in the past ten years, she had nothing to say.

Finally, she got out slowly and walked into the Barlow mansion. She stood in front of Anderson with her h

She went back to her room upstairs, closed the door, and squatted down. She felt as if she couldn’t breathe. She was upset about Anderson’s lack of trust toward her.

He could hear a voice coming from inside, saying in an aggrieved tone, “If you don’t believe me, fine. After all, Isabel is your future wife. You guys will be only one who has someone special? I’ll get Gordon to comfort me tomorrow.”
