Regrets After the Split: Does It Matter

Chapter 9

Chapter9

After that night, I found out I was pregnant.

Lily was not interested in the romantic entanglements of young people. All she knew was that Charles must be responsible for me and the child I was carrying. Whether Charles had a lover, whether the Evans family was pleased with me as a wife, or whether I was willing to marry Charles–all that was irrelevant to her.

What mattered to her was that she couldn’t let me down, and she certainly cannot let my grandma down.

“Evie, I’ve already talked to Samantha about you and Charles. She’s not in good health, and you wouldn’t want her to worry about you, would you?

“I can tell you have feelings for Charles.”

“You’re a good kid; I know you don’t want to ruin Charles and Vanessa’s relationship. But the deed is done.”

“Vanessa can’t stand to share him; she and Charles are done for.” Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

“But you and Charles still have endless possibilities. Don’t you want to give it a try?

I have to admit, there was a moment when I felt my heart stir.

Chapter

With my growing belly, there was no turning back. Co–parenting

wasn’t a good solution, and I didn’t want my child to be born without

a father.

I had no choice but to steel myself against Charles’s disdainful looks

and step into a marriage that was bound to be unhappy.

Sometimes I deeply resented my ingrained tendency to compromise and accommodate.

I had to pretend to be happy and sweet in front of the elders while putting on a carefree facade in front of Charles.

But in truth, I was far from happy. I was in pain.

Morning sickness was agonizing, swelling was torturous, and cramps were unbearable.

Being looked down upon by the Evans family was painful, being despised by Charles was painful, and being mocked by Vanessa was painful.

I endured all this until my next birthday arrived.

Samantha was very pleased. Not only did she prepare a gift for me, but she also got a gift for her future great–grandchild. She said that this time she was staying put and wouldn’t leave until after I’ve had the baby, so she could be at ease.

But Grandma never got to see Aaron born.

Chapter

On my birthday, I took her out to eat

She witnessed Vanessa and Charles holding hands affectionately, and kissing each other passionately.

Then, she had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital.
