Chapter 137: Seizing Opportunity
Killian's POV
My eyes were drawn to Astrid as she stood before me, explaining the procedure around the Emberwood Pack while also showing me the different stations they had set up around the Pack.
As I listened to how she orchestrated their relief efforts, I was amazed by the plans she came up with and how fast she was able to set all these things up.
Temporary camps had sprung up like blooming flowers, each one tailored to a specific purpose - shelters for the displaced, supply depots, and medical stations, all woven together in a seamless network under Astrid's watchful gaze. She also assigned different roles to each of her men to have their own individual contributions. In that way, all the needs of the people were met.
I'm not surprised that she came up with an organized plan to take the chaos that was left by the rogue attack and transform it into something orderly, something functional.
It was that skill that I had always admired in her, this innate talent of organization and foresight that once made the Silvermoon Pack develop into a more powerful Pack. "Alpha Killian, if you brought doctors with you, you can all bring them here," Astrid spoke as she turned to face me, pulling me back from my thoughts.
"Yes, of course," I blinked my eyes as I spoke before sending my orders through our Pack link.
Under Astrid's care, everything was organized already and a little help was only needed from us.
I
gave every help that she needs.
A lot of questions filled my head as I watched her move through the bustling encampment.
It's been so long since the last time I saw her, and things weren't well when we parted.
Ever since she left, there wasn't a day that I didn't think about her or worried about her.
Apart from the fact that she's been staying at the Shadowfang Pack, I haven't heard any other news from her. I just wanted to know if she's okay. If... our baby is still alive.
I swallowed hard as I continued to observe. Seeing her standing in front of me, having the energy to orchestrate all these, it only means that she's fine, but the baby... I couldn't tell. She's wearing a loose shirt, which has always been her favorite outfit because it makes her feel comfortable. Her wide outfit makes me unable to guess if she's still pregnant.
As I watched her, my heart could only yearn and ache to reach out and gather her into my embrace, to hold her close and let her know the depth of my fegs. However, there were many watchful eyes that kept me rooted on the spot. I clenched my hands to my sides in a desperate attempt to maintain my composure.
The air around us crackled with unspoken emotion as I fought
against my own desires. Astrid was oblivious to the turmoil raging inside
me and continued with her detailed briefing.
In those agonizing moments, I knew that Astrid had a lot of questions for me, just like I had a lot of questions for her.
I wanted to know if the rumors about her and the Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack were true, and most importantly, I wanted to know how she's been.
"Alpha Killian, do you have any questions?" Astrid asked.
In every word she spoke, she always addressed me as Alpha Killian.
"There's something I have to show you," I uttered.
Now that the briefing is done, it's time for me to seize the chance to talk to her.
As an Alpha, Lalready have a lot of responsibilities to take care of in the Pack. By all rights, I should be in my Pack taking care of more important matters instead of going out here to personally give relief efforts to the Emberwood Pack.
However, when I heard that Astrid was here, I instantly seized the opportunity to meet her and told Beta Ryder to stay behind instead. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
I've been waiting for the chance to talk to her. Even though I know that she's been staying in the Shadowfang Pack, I couldn't go there unless I had a very important reason.
This is my only chance to talk to her.
Astrid looked at me skeptically as if she didn't trust my words.
"I brought something that I want you to see. I want your opinion on it," I added to convince her to follow me.
"Then just bring it here, Alpha Killian."
"I can't," I replied. "It's too big. Let me show you where it is," I insisted.
Astrid gulped and looked around as if asking for help, but then again, in the end, she had no choice but to follow me. It is her job to help me.
With a subtle nod, I gestured for Astrid to follow me, my pulse quickening as she wordlessly fell into step beside me.
As I led her to a private path, away from everyone, Astrid didn't say a word. It's like she knew that I lied
Chthat was just stealing for a
chance to talk to her privately. Still, she came along with me, and I'm glad that she allowed me to talk to her.
When I felt that we were already far enough, I turned to face Astrid, my breath catching inside my throat when I was welcomed with her cold expression.
