Chapter 776
Gavin's eyes widened in shock as he finally emerged from the long tunnel of time, recalling that day over twenty years ago when he found Morris at the Rainbow Bridge and brought him home.
Back then, he'd taken Morris's hand from a young girl. Despite her simple attire, she had a face that radiated peace and tranquility. Her round, moon-like face was accented with eyes as beautiful as stars, making her unforgettable.
With reluctant hands, she passed Morris over to him and, like some earnest character from a storybook, insisted, "Sir, please promise me you'll take good care of Nathan. Make sure he sees a doctor, goes to school, and is loved. If you can't do that, I won't let him go with you. I can take care of him myself...”
Gavin, overwhelmed with an inexplicable shame that almost clouded his ability to think, could only nod and assure her repeatedly, "Don't worry, he's my son, and
I'm his father-I'll look after him. His life with me will be much better..."
Now, standing in front of Nathalie, Gavin saw that her once round face had thinned, but her eyes were even larger, darker, and brighter. He finally realized she was the same girl from all those years ago.
"It's you?"
Nathalie gave a mischievous smirk. "You finally recognize me. I wonder, Mr. Gavin, do you still remember the promise you made?"noveldrama
Her glare was piercing, almost ghostly, and Gavin felt an inexplicable guilt. His hands fidgeted nervously.
"It was ages ago. My memory isn't great; I've forgotten some things."
"Then let me remind you. When you came to my home back then, Nathan saw
you and was indifferent. He said he didn't need a father."
"You pleaded with me to speak on your behalf to Nathan, saying you hadn't protected him well and owed him. You were determined to make it up to him, promising he'd never suffer again."
"I warned you not to favor one son over the other and not to break Nathan's heart.
You could send him back to Rainbow Bridge, and I'd look after him forever."
As Nathalie spoke, Gavin's mind wandered back through the years.
"Ashley, I'm grateful for how you cared for Nathan. But many years have passed, and things have
happened to Nathan beyond ournet
contro You're an outsider, so forgive me for not being able to
share everything..."
Nathalie retorted mockingly, "Is it that you can't say, or you dare not say?"
Sweat began to bead on Gavin's forehead.
Just then, Paige walked in.
"Oh wow, I heard we have a special guest today. So, it's Ms. Nathalie." Paige was wearing an elegant gown that showed off her striking figure, drawing every eye in the room.
She sat beside Gavin, smiling warmly at Nathalie. "Ashley, so you're the friend Nathan met when he was on the streets. You wouldn't know but Nathan was such a sweet, sunny, and cheerful boy before the incident. Afterwards, he became gloomy and withdrawn, not talking to anyone. That's why we didn't notice his scars in time, and the delay in treatment left him with lasting effects. It's our family's biggest regret."
