Reborn From Oblivion

Chapter 483

Greta was fuming: "They're mistreating you, and you haven't called the police?"noveldrama

Miranda looked down, tears slipping down her cheeks. "They said the ones who get treated well are those who slip the caregivers extra tips. For folks like us, with no relatives visiting or giving extra, this is the kind of treatment we get." Greta's anger simmered: "What are you saying? Are you blaming me for not visiting enough? For not slipping them extra cash to take better care of you?"

She thought of Cameron's recent troubles and felt a rush of frustration: "Don't take things for granted. Do you even know how much I pay every month to keep you in this place?"

Miranda mumbled, still looking down: "Aren't you Mrs. Dawson now? Surely, this isn't a big deal for you?"

Greta shouted, "The Dawson family is nearly broke. Cameron's not keen on spending money on you anymore."

Miranda trembled, looking utterly abandoned. "Didn't Cameron always love you? Isn't he worried about making you mad by treating us like this?"

Greta sighed helplessly: "That was back then. Things aren't good between us anymore. It might not be long before I'm out of the Dawson family."

Suddenly, Patrick raised his shaky hand, voice raspy: "This... is... our... karma."

Greta was wide-eyed with shock: "Dad, do you even know what you're saying?"

Patrick continued, "We were so cruel to Nellie, and now it's coming back to us." His hand dropped as he ran out of strength.

Greta looked at her ailing parents, feeling a profound sense of loneliness and alienation from her family. "Dad, I'm sorry, but we can't afford this nursing home anymore. We have to leave."

Patrick closed his eyes, despair etched on his face.

Maybe sensing his end was near, Patrick spoke gently: "Greta, my time's running out. Look after your mother. Don't add more burdens to your conscience." Greta's eyes were red as she reluctantly nodded. "I understand. I'll go sort out the discharge papers."

Once Greta completed the

discharge, all of Patrick's special et

care was abruptly stopped. No more oxygen therapy, blood sugar checks, or respiratory monitoring...

Seeing Patrick struggle for breath, Miranda couldn't hold back her tears. "Greta, your dad can't survive without these machines. Please, I'm begging you, don't move him"

Greta's eyes were red with frustration: "Easy for you to say. If we stay, who's footing the bill? You?"

Miranda had nothing to her name; her survival relied entirely on Greta's generosity. She could only lower her head in humility.

The sharp sound of high heels echoed through the hall. Miranda looked up and saw Nathalie approaching with grace, and her eyes lit up.

She wheeled herself quickly towards Nathalie. "Nathalie, please, I'm begging you. You've got a kind heart, save your father."

Greta's eyes blazed: "My father is in this mess because of her, and you're asking her for help?" She glared at Miranda.

But as her eyes glanced over Nathalie, she was struck by the remarkable change in Nathalie's demeanor.
