“Can’t we just skip the invitation altogether?”
Deasy sounded lazily exasperated. At the moment, Veronica deliberately dropped by her apartment to pick her up and take her to the event.
Both of them received invitations to attend a grand party. As women holding leadership positions, their presence was eagerly awaited by the host.
“You’re unusually lazy. Back when we were colleagues, you used to be the first one to attend these invitations. You even went to the salon just to look the trendiest and outshine other staff or managers.”
Deasy, who was sitting on the sofa, let out a long sigh. Her eyes glanced at Veronica, who was also dressed neatly, ready to go to the party.
“Just not in the mood. In the past, when we went together, I wanted to show off my charm to young bosses or rich kids who attended these formal events.”
“Well, what’s different now?”
“The difference is that there are rarely good-looking young bosses who attend these official events now. Most of them are old guys. So, who do you want me to charm?”
Veronica burst into laughter. Deasy was getting annoyed because she felt teased by her friend.
“You never know, Des. Maybe this time you’ll meet your soulmate. Besides, it’s organized by your parent company. As a manager, shouldn’t you be there?”
“It’s precisely because it’s a company event that I’m not interested in going. I’ll probably end up running into my ex-boyfriend who just got married, Ve.”
“So what if you meet him? Are you embarrassed?”
“Just do it, dude.”
“This is actually your moment to prove that you can move on now and find someone better. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet your soulmate at the event. You can show off.”
Deasy seemed to consider Veronica’s words. There was some truth in it. Why should she keep drowning in sorrow? Instead of hiding, she should spread her wings and charm others to find a replacement. Who knows, maybe she’ll end up with someone even better than Daniel.
“Alright, I’ll change my clothes and get ready. I’ve decided to go with you to the event tonight.”
Veronica cheered happily. All her nagging and persuading paid off in the end. Deasy finally gave in, right?
About forty minutes later, Deasy and Veronica arrived at the event. As it was already 8 o’clock in the evening, most of the guests had gathered, getting ready for the main event.
After the opening ceremony and all the formalities, the guests were invited to enjoy the dinner.
While Veronica met one of her business associates, Deasy decided to roam around and taste the various snacks neatly arranged on the buffet table.
While she was happily enjoying a piece of cake, suddenly a man approached her. Not just that, he deliberately greeted her as if wanting to show off something.
“I thought you wouldn’t come.”
Familiar with the voice of the person who just addressed her, Deasy turned around. She found a man she knew very well, holding hands affectionately with a young and equally beautiful and attractive woman.
“There was no reason for me not to come.”
Daniel, her ex-boyfriend who just greeted her, chuckled lightly. He looked at Deasy from head to toe and spoke again.
“You seemed like you wanted to avoid me. Ever since you found out I’m going to marry Arindi, it’s pretty obvious you’ve been against me.”
Deasy laughed sarcastically. She was genuinely disgusted by Daniel, and yet here he was, standing and talking to her as if nothing had happened.
“Ah, that’s just your assumption. Are you a debt collector or something that I should avoid you at all costs?”
Daniel laughed. Deasy’s words managed to provoke him. Apparently, her straightforward nature hadn’t changed one bit. She was always candid and often spoke bluntly without holding back.
“But, seriously. From the beginning, our relationship wasn’t compatible.”
“Well, if we were compatible, we’d probably be married, right?”
Daniel nodded.
“From the start, I was the one forcing us to stay together. But the more we tried, the harder it became for both of us to make it work.”
“Why bother trying so hard? When you’re tired, you can just get in a car,” Deasy retorted playfully. “And just because you felt we weren’t compatible, you started cheating behind my back?”
Daniel nodded, unashamedly admitting what Deasy accused him of.
“Well, what can I do? Besides, you know I like curvy and sexy women. While you’re more tomboyish. That’s why we’re not a good fit.”
“Such a jerk!”
“Why a jerk?”
“Because I wanted to call you a crocodile, but you’re too good for that. Besides, real crocodiles are loyal and not cheaters like you.”
Daniel laughed, not offended by Deasy’s words. In fact, it seemed to encourage him to keep teasing his ex-girlfriend.
“But… after I get married, you’ve already moved on, right? Don’t tell me you’re still head over heels in love with me or hoping for me to come back to you.”
Deasy felt like she wanted to vomit. If it weren’t a public place, she swore she’d want to hit or pull Daniel’s thin mustache, like Mr Bean’s.
“Sorry… sorry, alright? I’m perfectly beautiful, Daniel. When I was dating you, it must have been when my eyes were hurting. Or maybe my inner vision was clouded with dust. Just so you know, even someone from our company thought it was weird, even suspected that I was under a love spell to be infatuated with a guy like you, who’s as delicate as a rice cooker.”
Daniel shrugged. His emotions were starting to escalate.
“Oh well, even if you’re ugly like this, you were head over heels for me, right? It’s evident you still can’t forget me until this very moment. But you, who claims to be so beautiful, haven’t found a replacement for me? Seems like you’re still single.”
“Ugh, who says that?” Deasy retorted indignantly. This rice cooker of a guy is too full of himself, assuming she can’t move on.
“Then where’s your boyfriend? Have you already found someone?”
Daniel’s question was obviously laced with mockery. He openly challenged Deasy, as if saying that she’s unattractive and he’s the only one who’s willing to date her.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Naturally, Deasy felt humiliated. In her heart, she vowed to get back at Daniel, who was openly belittling and embarrassing her.
“Enough already. Do you want proof?”
“Where? I want to see how handsome and amazing the guy who’s currently close to you, the beautiful girl, is.”
Deasy felt cornered. Her eyes scanned around, trying to find Veronica’s whereabouts. However, when she turned to the left, her gaze caught a man who, from behind, looked handsome and was engrossed in conversation with other guests.
In that instant, an idea popped into Deasy’s head. Without hesitation, she approached, gently pulled the man’s shoulder, and called him affectionately.
“Sweetheart…”
Never mind what happens next. The important thing was to silence Daniel and make him stop underestimating or humiliating her.
“I want to introduce you to my ex-boyfriend.”
The man in the black suit immediately turned around. Daniel, who had been waiting to see who Deasy just called, was taken aback. And Deasy herself was equally surprised when she clearly saw the man she just addressed.
