Chapter 269 Plan Everything for His Wife and Daughter
Three days later...
Kenneth came here from Vadiff. As his car was stopped, the chauffeur opened the door for him.
Kenneth found himself feeling sad.
Once skeptical of Benjamin, Kenneth could tell that Ben genuinely loved Madelyn over the years...
Now, with Ben's health issues, he still made arrangements for his wife and daughter whenever he still
had a clear head.
Kenneth felt sorry for them.
For both Benjamin and Madelyn!
After walking into the mansion, he spotted Benjamin who was sitting on a couch, seemingly absorbed
in an old newspaper.
Kenneth walked to him and asked, "Is Madelyn out?"
Benjamin looked up and appeared somewhat surprised. He stood up and replied, "She's gone to
Everest Group to handle something."
Kenneth understood that Benjamin had given Everest Group to Madelyn.
He didn't how to react.
Finally, he said, "Alright, I actually have something important to discuss with you."
Given that he came =so suddenly, Benjamin inferred that he was here for something significant. He
said with a smile, "Let's go to the study on the second floor."
They went to the study upstairs.
Kenneth took a seat and began to smoke. He looked up and asked, "How have you been?"
Benjamin was making coffee.
Hearing this, he paused and replied in a low voice, "Not so well!"
Then he handed a cup of coffee to Kenneth and sat down across from him.
Kenneth was feeling restless and put out his cigarette.
He looked at Benjamin and said cautiously, "I've got some new! Eleanor managed to obtain that
medication probaly from her ex-husband! Surveillance footage shows that her producer ex-husband
had contact with her while they were in the hospital... They brought him in for questioning, but he's
quite cunning and there was no concrete evidence. Because o his special status, they had no choice
but to release him."
Benjamin sipped coffee slowly.
Kenneth continued, "After their divorce, I heard he struggled to make a living in Monatiz and has now
worked as a producer since he came back. He certainly has a motive! But don't worry, I'll keep a close
eye on him."
Benjamin nodded.
They were sitting and drinking coffee...
After a long while, Benjamin placed a medical record on the coffee table.
Kenneth picked it up, and the more he read, the more shocked he was!
Looking at Benjamin, Kenneth felt astonished. Benjamin felt helpless and said with a faint smile,
"Kenneth, my memory of Madelyn is fading with each passing day. There are moments when I even
forget who Everest is when I look at her..."
Kenneth lit another cigarette.
Suddenly, Benjamin got up and knelt before Kenneth. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
Kenneth's fingers nearly got burnt by the cigarette he was holding and rushed to help Benjamin up. He
asked, "Ben, what are you doing? Don't put me in such a difficult position! A man should have dignity
and not kneel down and beg.
Are you doing this to make me embarrassed?"
Benjamin refused to stand up.
He said in a low and hoarse voice, "My father is getting older. Though Madelyn is smart and capable,
she's still a woman who has two children to care for. Kenneth, I implore you to take care of not just
Madelyn and her children but also Eloise... For any important decisions to make, I'm asking you to help
them."
Kenneth didn't like to hear these words at all.
He frowned and asked, "Ben, I'm telling you that don't even think about burdening me with your entire
family! You... you've forgotten everything and are living a carefree life. But what about Madelyn? What
about the children?"
Benjamin gazed deeply into Kenneth's eyes.
He forced a bitter smile and replied, "Kenneth, I used to tell Madelyn not to give up on me and to
remember to find me! But, Kenneth, who can predict the future? I... I just want her to have hopes.
When a person is desperate, life becomes incredibly bleak!"
Moreover, Madelyn had postpartum depression before.
Now she was pregnant again.
Benjamin could only do his best to ensure his wife and children were well cared for while he could still
remember them.
Kenneth felt even more upset after hearing these words.
He silently finished his cigarette, patted Benjamin on the shoulder and said, "Ben, I promise you!"
He was getting a little choked up as he continued, "Don't be away for too long. Remember to come
back early. Madelyn and the children are waiting for you, and so are we!"
Benjamin gave a faint smile.
After sitting for a while, Kenneth left the room and ran into Eloise on the staircase.
Eloise was carrying a tray of food.
It looked quite tasty.
Kenneth paused for a moment and looked at her. Then he took out a cigarette from his pocket and
asked, "You've learned to cook?"
Eloise nodded and said, "I'm trying, but it doesn't taste so good."
Kenneth gave a light smile.
Seeing the tears in his eyes, Eloise felt sad and momentarily forgot their past. She sincerely said,
"Thank you for visiting Benjamin."
Kenneth's smile faded...
He gazed at the girl he had once loved, feeling a mix of emotions.
He had thought his own life was difficult enough, but compared to Benjamin's, it didn't seem... not so
bad after all.
Kenneth had business to attend to and had to leave.
He put the cigarette between his lips and gently ruffled her hair. He said, "I'm leaving. If you need
anything, call me."
Eloise nodded.
Kenneth looked at her for a moment, then withdrew his hand and slowly walked down the stairs.
As he got to the ground floor, he suddenly turned back and asked, "How do you get along with...that
person?"
Eloise remained silent for a moment.
She replied in a bitter tone, "We couldn't get along, so we broke up!" After saying these words, she
went back upstairs.
Kenneth watched her go away.
Although he should have been happy that her blind date hadn't gone well, he couldn't feel that way. He
knew all too well that without their past relationship and Emerson, finding a suitable partner would have
been easy for her.
Ultimately, it was he who had held her back.
...
In the evening, Madelyn finally returned home.
She found Benjamin in the study.
He was going through his diary, but when he saw Madelyn walk in, he put it back in the drawer as he
had done before.
Madelyn didn't press further.
She walked up to him and gently hugged him. She asked, "Did Kenneth come over today?"
Benjamin said yes.
He wanted to share with Madelyn what Kenneth had told him, but as he attempted to speak, his
thoughts suddenly grew foggy.
Seeing his perplexed expression, Madelyn's heart sank.
She was well aware of his memory lapses, and his brain had been a mess...
She didn't want to see him struggling to remember.
Madelyn gently took his hand and placed it on her belly, murmuring, "Eloise will be with Everest tonight.
Ben, how about we take a stroll in the garden?"
He had confined himself to the house for several days now.
She understood that he was afraid of forgetting his way back home if he went outside.
Madelyn felt conflicted and anguished. She thought that she had become a source of constraint in his
life, and if it weren't for her, Benjamin wouldn't have to endure such hardships.
In the courtyard, she tightly held his hand, cherishing the last warm moment with him.
She stared at her husband under the moonlight.
He was still handsome.
But now and then, the way he looked at her seemed distant and strange.
He had started avoiding her, and later, Madelyn found a note in his pocket, with a few words written on
it as a reminder to himself.
[Go to the basement, and stay there until you remember Madelyn!]
Upon seeing that note, Madelyn wept for a long time.
She thought to herself that perhaps she shouldn't keep him by her side any longer. He was not happy
around her...
But without his memories of her, he was still Benjamin.
At night, with tears in her eyes, Madelyn drifted off to sleep.
In the early morning, she woke up to find a white rose placed by her pillow, fresh glistening with fresh
dew as always. She felt sweet in her heart, and she softly called his name, "Ben..."
It was silent in the bedroom.
Madelyn had a bad feeling. She even had no time to put on her shoes and just rushed downstairs.
"Ben... Ben..."
"Benjamin!"
