Chapter 22
Chapter 22 First Job
In the seafood restaurant, the waiter handed Sophia the bill. "Madam, could you please settle the bill?"
Sophia angrily took it and tossed it aside without even looking. "How much is it?"
"It's a total of $120,00."
Sophia snapped her head up. "I only had a few lobsters! Why is it so expensive? Are you trying to extort me?"
The waiter hurriedly explained, "Oh no, that's not the case. Besides your table, there's also the bill from the table of those two ladies just now! They ordered more, so naturally, it's more expensive." Sophia pounded the table. "They ate, so you should ask them for money! Why should I pay?"
The waiter was puzzled. "But, isn't that lady Mr. Reed's wife? They said Mr. Reed would settle the bill, but since Mr. Reed left first, we have to ask his assistant, which is you." Assistant?
Sophia was speechless with anger.
To make matters worse, the waiter asked again, "Aren't you his assistant?"
"Yes!" Sophia gritted her teeth as she reluctantly paid the bill with her card, seething with frustration for a long time.
This couldn't go on.
Emily couldn't officially divorce Nathan for a day, and Sophia couldn't legitimately become a member of the Reed family for a day!
She didn't want to suffer this humiliation a second time!
Taking out her phone, she dialed a number. "Mom, when are you coming to New York? I need your help..."
...
Back at Room 2307, Emily received a call from Mr. Satan as soon as she stepped inside.
"Did you let off some steam today?"
Emily was quite accustomed to his well-informed manner. "Yeah, Olivia was right. I can't be weak anymore. Whoever bullies me, I'll fight back."
Mr. Satan chuckled softly. "You go ahead and do what you need to do. With me around, you can do anything."
Emily chuckled. "Are you working right now?"
"Well, sort of."
"Can you call me during work hours? Is that okay?"
"No one can control me, and no one can stop me," Mr. Satan said. "Emily, take a break and rest before going to the hospital. You got up too early this morning. Don't overwork yourself." Emily felt a warmth in her heart. "It's okay, I don't feel tired."
"Oh..." His voice suddenly became sexy and provocative. "Then I'll come home early tonight, and we can start early."
Click.
The call was abruptly disconnected.
Mr. Satan looked at the darkened screen of his phone, unable to help the slight curve of his lips.
Her shy demeanor was truly adorable.
Just as he was about to put away the phone, Emily called again.
She seemed visibly nervous, her words somewhat disjointed. "Um... I really didn't mean to hang up just now. The signal just dropped!"Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
Mr. Satan didn't expose her little scheme and simply responded, "Hmm, the signal did drop indeed. I'm considering whether to acquire this telecommunications company."
Blushing, Emily huffed and pressed the end call button.
At lunchtime, Emily went to the hospital to deliver food to her father and settled the hospitalization and medication expenses for the next few days.
Spending over a hundred thousand dollars in one go only fueled her desire to earn her own money.
In the morning, Olivia had given her the contact information for the person in charge of the auto show. Emily had a brief discussion about the job requirements and made sure to remember all the details. This was her first job after leaving the Reed family, and she had to do it well.
Returning to the Hilton hotel, she spent the evening browsing through numerous tutorial videos online, eager to learn. For several consecutive days, her life felt incredibly fulfilling.
Before going to bed one night, she discussed the auto show job with Mr. Satan.
He was very supportive. "You should have your own career and life, not revolve everything around me. If being a makeup artist is what you want to do, then go for it. Even if you don't make money, it's okay as long as you're happy." Bright and early on Sunday morning, Emily arrived at the auto show venue according to the specified time.
Following the address provided by the person in charge, she found the organizer's office. Glancing inside, it seemed like a meeting was in progress.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and a young man in a suit stood before her, looking down at her with a hostile tone. "No need to clean here for now. Don't wander around."
Today, Emily didn't wear the white dresses Mr. Satan had bought for her but instead opted for her old clothes.
Firstly, it was inconvenient to work in a dress amidst the hustle and bustle of the auto show. Secondly, white was too prone to dirt, and makeup stains would ruin a perfectly good dress.
Perhaps today, she reverted to her previous style, causing others to mistake her for a janitor.
Emily smiled apologetically. "Sorry to disturb you. I'm the makeup artist responsible for styling the models today. I had an appointment with the person in charge here..."
"A makeup artist?" The young man scrutinized her from head to toe, brimming with arrogance and disdain. "If you're so sloppy yourself, how can you do makeup for others? Who sent you?"
Just as Emily was about to explain, a middle-aged man who looked like a manager rushed out and said to the young man, "Boss, sorry for the interruption. This makeup artist was introduced by Olivia. I'll brief her on what to do." The man addressed as the boss glared at him. "If there's a problem with the models' makeup today, you'll be held responsible."
"Yes, yes, I'll get the job done!"
The middle-aged man quickly ushered Emily out of the meeting room and took her to a secluded spot. He sighed and said, "You're Emily, right?"
Emily nodded. "Hello, Manager Wilson. Yes, I'm Emily, introduced by Olivia."
"Ah, you've come at an inopportune time. You happened to catch our boss Jackson in a bad mood." Wilson grumbled for a bit, then got down to business. "I briefed you on those points over the phone yesterday. Remember them?" "I do. Keep the makeup simple and clean, avoid excessive glam; hairstyles should match the event theme."
"Right. Our boss Jackson isn't in a good mood today, so make sure not to provoke him. Now, I'll take you backstage. The auto show starts at ten, so you need to make the most of your time!"
