Chapter 42
Chapter 42
She gently combed his fringe and trimmed the fringe little by little with a pair of scissors. She looked very focused. All her concentration was on the fringe. She did not even notice the pair of beautiful eyes under the fringe watching her.
Jackson stared at her. Her face was slightly red due to the cold weather. He looked at her pretty eyes, her small nose, her pink lips, and her beautiful face. The more he looked at her, the harder he found it to look away. Under the light, her body seemed
to emanate a warm aura.
“Okay, it’s done.” After a while, he suddenly heard her say.
“It’s done?” he asked. All the time he spent with her seemed to pass by very quickly.
“Mm–hmm.” She smiled and took two steps back to scrutinize him. “It’s not bad. My skills are pretty good. We saved a few dollars.”
She chuckled, then took a dry towel and helped him dust off some of the fine strands of hair that had fallen onto his face, neck
and clothes.
“All right, go take a shower,” said Serenity.
Jackson nodded, took a change of clothes and walked into the small bathroom. He let warm water wash over his body. He looked down and saw the scar on his chest.
Time had passed and the scar had now become very shallow, but every time he saw it, it still reminded him of that woman.
The woman who had abandoned him and his father.
This wound was probably the only thing that woman left for him.
At the time, he knelt and begged her not to leave him and his father, but she ruthlessly pushed him away and left without looking back. Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
His chest slammed into a metal sp ik e. Afterwards, the doctor told him that the sp ik e was really close to his heart. If it had been a little more to the side, he would have lost his life.
At that time, he told himself that the woman was no longer his mother.
After the death of his father, he was even more unwilling to have any expectations of anyone. Without expectations, there would be no disappointment.
But…
Jackson turned off the faucet, grabbed a towel, dried his body and put on his clothes. When he walked out of the bathroom, his eyes fell on Serenity who seemed to be looking at something at the table.
Since when did he start having expectations of her? He looked forward to seeing her smile, to seeing her happy, to seeing her look at him with gentle eyes and call him “Jack“.
“Are you done showering? Let me help you blow your hair dry,” she said as she got up to get the hair dryer.
He went over to the table and saw some papers she had spread out on the table. They were… copies of the files from her old
case.
His eyes flickered. “What are you looking at?” he asked despite already knowing the answer.
“It’s something related to my case,” she replied. “Lisa helped me collect them.”
“Why are you looking at them?” he asked.
Yeah, why? Serenity asked herself that question all the time. She had tried to appeal her case for three years but to no avail. She’s not even sure if she could locate the witnesses now. What could a sanitation worker like her do?
“Maybe… it’s because there are still parts of this case that I can’t figure out,” Serenity muttered.
She could not figure out why her alcohol test showed that her Blood Alcohol Concentration was high enough to reach the
standard of drunk driving even though she clearly did not drink any liquor that day.
